When it's always cold and you are camping, you need a good source of heat ... and a good mode of transportation. It appears I have neither!! In my canvas tent, I use a wood stove. If you use a wood stove you need to make sure it's suitable for your needs. When it comes to my new little wood stove, I'm not convinced it's good enough. Today I need to make a little modification to improve it.
Also, have you ever poured boiling water over your ride in hopes that it will start???
New antlers and delicious all-beef hot dogs top off this fun episode in the woods.
Here are all of my tiny cabin hot tent videos: kzfaq.info?list...

This quite possibly is my favorite video. The heartfelt story of your dad, his passing, your close relationship with your mom's boyfriend, Jerry. And how they have both influenced you in a positive way despite their very different interests. The boiling water fix (thanks to Jerry's suggestion) and your excitement that it worked was the perfect conclusion to this hot tent adventure! I look forward to seeing your new Jerry-crafted stove in the future.

Stove mass, firebricks and baffles are the key to a good and efficient woodstove. As soon as that damper is in place one will always get a bit of smoke out of the door if open. Wood burning stoves are very efficient at burning firewood to produce heat thanks to a number of efficiency-enhancing designs such as baffle plates and controllable air vents. Hardwoods are always better than softwoods, but up North not always easy to find. You are getting there, hope the new stove helps out Jay.....Fred in Thunder Bay.Ontario

It’s amazing how much heat these wall tents hold. I was out at mine this past weekend and it was 30-32 degrees outside and I had to open the windows because of the heat from the stove. No where near as cold as where you are but still… Enjoyed the video and story about your Dad. The world needs more good fathers. Cheers!

You looked like a little boy getting his first train set for Christmas when that sled started! I had to giggle! I hope the sleepover went well, my dad used to love making breakfast (usually pancakes and bacon & eggs) for 10 little girls when I was little and had my birthday sleepovers. I lost my dad in 2012 to cancer and I miss him as much or more today than I did the day he passed. I’m sorry you lost your father so young Jay, it sounds to me like you have a bevy of memories to lose yourself in and warm your heart in. I am glad however that your mum has found someone to share her life with and that you and he get on so well. I wasn’t so welcoming of my mum’s new beau until I saw how happy he made her and that was enough for me to give him a chance. They’ve been together 9 years now and he’s a great guy. I’m also really happy you didn’t have to walk back to the vehicle in that cold 🥶!

Jay, I have every confidence that somewhere on the block of your sled you can find a place to attach a silicone oil pan heater. The same as those used on oil pans of cars. They have assorted sizes, with assorted wattages and none of them use that much power. Just plug in to your Jackery when you arrive, toss the cover on the sled to hold in heat.

You may want to change that relay out. When under low voltage or extreme cold cranking the relays burn in on the contacts. You need a fuel pump and a starter relay. Not expensive so it's wise to change them and have a spare with you. Great when a plan comes together.

Hi Jay, I know that feeling of 'oh crap'.. getting a machine to try and start. I had some issues with my quad a month or so ago - when we hit -38c temps in Haliburton Forest here in Ontario.... my quad actually dropped in voltage... and I had to boost it, but I keep a tent heater at my cabin with a propane bottle, just in case - and I put it under my quad to heat up the battery and whatnot.... covering the machine also really helps - even if its just a tarp.. it keeps the frost from getting into the parts and freezing them - I swear ..even if its only for a short while, that its the best thing to do. I've never had to deal with a frozen fuel pump... but I've had to use gas line anti-freeze a few times, and keep some in both the quad and sled. Great video as always.

I was surprised when I saw this stove to be honest. I also thought it looked .... sub-par... What you want is mass and material that holds the heat. So when you go to sleep and the fire goes out you still have either cast iron or soap stone (I google translated it from Swedish, I hope it's right). That really holds and radiates heat long after the fire is out. So it warms the tent up faster and acts like a radiator after the fire is out.

I knew from day one, you were not going to like that stove. It is made for an insulated building, not a tent. I love your old stove. Perhaps before it gets rusted out from being outdoors, you could make a video using a tape measure so we may make one ourselves with your measurements.:)THANKS,...

I've never seen a damper that low. Usually they're about 5 feet or so, but you do you. Loving the channel. On our camp stove we have knobs(?) on each door that screw in or out to allow air flow. Your solution seems quite small. If you were to enlarge that you might get better air flow.
