Hi from Annie , the garden has frown so fast since start of the year all looks so nice and the backyard is last to be done that hot weather would put things on hold for a while. For the back yard a pergola would be nice in the center with gravel or brickwork in the middle with table n chairs on it either big circle or square shape for the gravel or brickwork. Even a swimming pool would look fabulous. Inside the entrance rugs all look good, and the little table in corner which is a small entertainment area. feels very cosy and intimate which is good.

Ohh,I have a tomato story for you,Dearest Linda. My grandfather, rest his soul, was born in the town of Cefalu,Sicily. Giuseppe Montalto.he went by the name Joe. My mother, she hated how grandpa Joe constantly took photographs of his incredible tomatoes! She was like”they’re tomatoes!why does he photograph them???” I find these now vintage photos nothing short of genius. He appreciated the beauty, the results of his hard earned labor. A Sicilian appreciates the tiny things,as they come from a place where so little is to be had.❤️

Linda I actually love the rug for summer in your dining area. It picks up all the colors in the painting. I’m afraid the rug in the parlor would be too bland and to matchy to all the other neutrals . The house looks amazing and so welcoming. You’ve done a great job.

Linda, before you go and have a new carpet made for your dining room. Take the one that you have and flip it over. I learned this from a dear decorator friend of mine. It will be a little more muted and “antique-ish” and you may find it just perfect!!

Hi Linda - thanks for the tour. Your home is lovely and you are soooooooo happy in it... that's the best part!! As for the rug, I agree that you should roll up the wool rug and store it for the cooler seasons; it is too visually heavy for the heat of summer. Rather than purchase another sisal rug, I recommend that you don't put any rug down. Simply leave the floors (as much or as little as you want) bare. I remove a rug from my front foyer at the beginnning of spring and don't see it again until mid-autumn. The lightness/airyness created by the reduction of visual impact is great for the summer months. Thanks for the chance to chime in. Enjoy your 4th of July celebrations.

This is a great video, and I love the suggestion of the 4’ x 4’ gardening at a time during the extreme heat. I recently clipped my hedges on a very hot day and while I wore a hat, I had not drank anything other than coffee that morning and started out dehydrated, and I became extremely dizzy. I brought water out with me and thought that was enough but it was not. I went in immediately. It took me many hours later to recover after cooling off inside and drinking plenty of water. I went out another day to cut another section of hedges and waited until there was shade from a tree and drank a lot of water beforehand. I realized after that event I need to next time do the cutting over time and possibly over a couple days in addition to hydrating a lot first.

Suggestion regarding the rug....if you are going to get a custom rug from the carpet store, have the rug cut a couple of inches bigger than the current rug. Put the new rug on top of the original rug (assuming the original rug is not too thick) and the original rug functions as a rug pad and won't have to be moved or stored. Use a system of "rug layering" to partially avoid the work of switching out rugs. I like to also switch out wall art seasonally.

Thank you for the information!!! And thank you for knowing how to explain gardening. This summer is already proving to be a dread in Florida. Too much rain it seems like until the dry spells happen where it seems super humid and nothing should dry up, BUT the air temp is hot enough that deceitfully, everything still gets dried up. A few times I've missed watering and set my growth back as I tried to establish my plants before the drought. Now I've ordered a solar powered irrigation system and rain catcher to supply water for the system to help me not forget and to also avoid over watering

Loved this video! Regarding your rug, I can understand changing it out, as I do the same for each season in my mudroom. I think the colors in the rug can go well in any season. The navy and yellow in the rug match the lampshade on the bar. You have also picked up some of the colors in the pillows on the banquet. Maybe pulling out more of the light blue in the rug in your napkins, pillows, barware, kitchen towels and other accessories will create a more cohesive look that has a summer vibe, if you don't want the trouble of changing out the rug. Pulling out the light blue will also pick up the rug in your front room and tie both rooms together more closely. Whatever you do, Linda, it will be fabulous!

Ah, Linda, I just used my Barnell pruners to cut back my splayed open sage plants. I started out using my hand pruners, but abandoned that immediately because it would have taken too long. It was very hot that day. I thought I'd beat the heat getting outdoors earlyish. But before I knew it, I was dripping wet. I wear sunscreen, but forgot the small of my back 🤦🏼‍♀️ and could feel it burning. Not 102, but it was in the 90s by ten. My nearby roses practically gasped audibly once I gave them breathing room from the mature sage plants. I was thinking of popping your tower supports over the tamed sage plants, but I doubt they'll reflush blooms that big again. After more than a month without rain, we got about an inch Friday night! I was weeding in the rain. Quite refreshing. My power went out so it was cooler outside. I knew it had been restored when I could hear my neighbors' A/C unit. Last night, another near inch fell. Our temps this week should be delightful. Finally! Maybe I can complete my front garden project inspired by you. Hardscaping isn't a quick project. Come on, Linda! You must listen to some oldies rock and roll. I'm your age and like to crank the volume once in a while. I'm a huge Queen fan and picked out some music to be played at my funeral. For fun, "Fat Bottomed Girls" appeals to my sense of humor. 😂

Consider getting a rug for your dining area that is the same solid color as the bottom of the kitchen island - dark blue (or is it grey?) That would give the eyes a place to "rest" and allow the colors of your table adornments and the wall art to really pop! To test this out, you could cover the rug with a large appropriately dark blue sheet or tablecloth - just to get an idea.

Stewart’s idea of using one as an entry bench made me think of the space under the entry table in your parlor. I cut back my scented geranium and took off the lower leaves and plopped the cuttings into a new pot to grow more plants. I am going to do the same with my butterfly bush and even some roses. I am swarmed by spider mite as never before. In my trees, plants and pond even. I am washing them off with the hose and keeping my infected plants separate. Didn't help putting my tomatoes ten ft apart though. The insects need those blooms still, though. Indiana got hit with several tornadoes and other bad weather today.

If you mow while the grass is damp it will also dull your mower blades. That is a pet peeve of my hubbies, so I normally don’t attempt to mow till about 10 AM here in W KY for that reason. It takes me about 4 hrs to mow all of our lawn, so wet/damp grass would certainly dull my Dixie Chopper, Hoss. 😂 Doesn’t everyone name their zero turn mower. I used to have a John Deere and her name was Josephine. Hoss was the legendary big hulk of a guy on the show Bonanza, and since the hubs always called our farm the Ponderosa, then the name Hoss seemed appropriate for our hefty Dixie Chopper. Linda, I love how you name all you different garden areas with catchy names. Everything looks gorgeous and seems to be faring well in the heat.

We've had milder temps here in way NORCAL but triple digits are on their way for the 4th of July on. We get up to 110 so then I only go out in early morning & evening. Happy holiday guys. P. S. I love wire plant. I currently have 2 but will check our local Lowes. Love your art work. ESPECIALLY Monument Valley. Love the place & the painting.

Right plant for the right place; so true about that tip Linda. I made sure to plant determinate tomato plants near the back door and the indeterminate tomato plant in the garden bed where it can grow contently. Waste not want not is what I heard growing up. Loving that side bench and side yard. Your brick choices are wonderful and can hardly wait to see what you decide. 🍀🪴🌻

Just a thought for you---at our house we enjoy our wood floors during spring and summer and put our rugs down in the fall and winter---of course if you have a huge rug as we do it stays and others are removed😊
