The Indian Hotel Industry has had a tough 3 years but it now well on it's path to recovery and progress. With over 50 hotel and hospitality stocks to choose from, it is important to understand the most important metrics that affect the hotel business. And so in this video, I analyse the hotel industry in India and narrow down the information into 6 valuation metrics every investor should consider when investing in hotel stocks. We shall be examining four Indian hotel chains:
a) IHCL i.e. Indian Hotels Company Limited (incl. The Taj Hotel, Vivanta, Ginger Hotel etc.)
b) EIH Limited (incl. The Oberoi Hotels, Trident Hotels, Maidens)
c) Chalet Hotels (incl. Marriott, Novotel, Four Seasons, Westin)
d) Lemon Tree Hotels (incl. Lemon Tree Premier, Red Fox Hotels, Aurika Hotels)

Thanks! Yes, I left that out on purpose with an indication that EV/EBITDA is what analysts look for. Because a) it can be easily viewed over any screening platform (while finding occupancy rate, RevPAR etc. is tougher) and b) more importanly, the hotel company's financials (trailing 4 quarters) haven't yet normalized. I was afraid it might lead to an incorrect interpretation as a majority of investors look for shortcuts & that table would not qualify as one

U r opinion on how safe this process is? Taxation part of it? Any issues with this at the time of dividend, bonus, stock split and very important can I do it through ICICI Direct? I've looked at the top 4 listed companies in this space. Don't think other brands like Le Meridien Group, ITC Hotels, The Leela or OYO are listed yet.

I have deeply read about this sector recently as it is in an upcycle and i must say this video instills my understanding after gaving read in 5 Annual reports 15 presentations and 10 concalls of various companies. @12:25 'Pricing power gets reflected in the occupancy rate' saying it that way makes it seem like it leads to higher occupancy while I think it would be the other way around.

Hello Himanshu - two important points: 1. If you are already invested in the Genius portfolio, then you should be able to see how your portfolio is performing against the benchmark. That should give you a very good idea of how things are proceeding 2. The way Genius is designed: very user has a slightly different allocation, different set of stocks/funds, different SIP dates (which makes a difference), different tenures and there are 6 different portfolios within it. Your experience might be totally different than mine. On my part, I can tell you that the returns on my Genius portfolio are in line with my expectations. The rest is upto you -- which you can easily check on the ET Money app
