Have you found yourself trying to import grooms from houdini into maya and struggling to get maya to load them in? I had that problem and found a good workflow to get great results without the hassle.

Thanks for bring that into Maya. Will help a lot of users. Maya still the main layout, animation tool and character animation tool in a lot of studios

Hey! Thank you for the awesome breakdown! I'm having some trouble with something similar right now. Do you have any advice on how to transfer the color from the geo onto the hair instead of coloring it like you did? I'm trying to export fur into C4D/octane but i can't seem to find a way to make the groom color match the uv texture of the object :(

thank you so much for the tutorial, it is so helpful, I am having an issue with my groom, I can't see it in my scene or in my render but it is appearing in the outliner, is there something I did wrong ?

Hi ! Really awesome tutorial , we actually searched a lot to find how to put the groom from houdini to maya . Do you append to know how make the groom gpu cache follow the character in animation ? thanks !

Hi, this is a really great tutorial! But I have a question. would it be possible to get the texture color that I set up in houdini in maya?

You can transfer point attributes to Maya through Arnold. It should pick it up in the alembic. If you run into issues I know there are some results online that help you see how it works. It should just work using the arnold user data color node (I don't remember the actual name at this very moment).

Hi Cómic, there is a way to do the same but for maya hair simulation to blender?

I would try exporting an alembic cache from Maya for that. I haven't done any Maya hair simulations as I really prefer using Houdini for that kind of work so I'm not certain if there are any quirks. It should however just work out.

Why take anything into Maya? Houdini has a full toolset

Sometimes productions move between apps. In this case I was rendering in Maya for final results so I had to find a solution. If I can keep it in Houdini I definitely prefer to.

Why would you import into Maya? what a waste of time. Just stay in Houdini!

I agree rendering in houdini is much easier and preferred. Sometimes though you need to move to another package for the pipeline and I needed to move to Maya recently. I had found very little documentation online about the process so I figured I would share my findings.
