Our framers are building the structure to support the lap siding that will go on the gable ends of our Legacy Block ICF house and garage. They have to correct for out of plumb block to ensure that the siding looks and functions correctly. To provide a secure fastening surface for they siding they are effectively building a stick frame structure on the outside of the block.

Brutal conditions, wow. It sure looks nice. Were the plans for the window height incorrect or did changes made during the build process cause the window height issue? How many windows did they have to raise?

The block elevation was too high. It should have been 12" lower to allow for roof framing. The low wall on the north and south being too high caused the porch roof to be higher all the way around the house. The roof then intruded into the bottom of the window openings in the east and west gables. They then had to raise those two openings. The garage wasn't a problem since terer isn't a porch roof.

I was curious as to how plumb the concrete panels would end up when it came time for the carpentry work. I know your doing some rock work. Does that include the gables or will that be a siding? Glad to see it's coming along!

The block downstairs is pretty dang plumb and square. The gables upstairs, not so much. We're doing rock below the porch roof level and lap siding on the gables.

We hope so. Our goal was to build a modern house that looks like its been here for a hundred years and fits into the environment and regional architectural style. Stucco would have been easier but it wouldn't look "right."

Hey - why wood frame that wall this side of the attic since there is ICF block (it seems they cut the Legacy block too much - it does not match the roof angle on one side)

The wood framing provides an attachment point for the lap siding on the gable ends. Yes, the block was cut incorrectly. The angle was off, the center point wasn't in the center, and the block was built to the final roof height which left no room for framing and necessitated raising the roof structure above the block.

I just don’t see the point of using that much concrete on building a home just to use lumber all over it, especially the roof..

Our preferred roof would have been concrete. The pitches, however, prevented pour in place and shipping expense prevented tilt-up. The roof is pretty dang sturdy but we expect, if we ever get hit with a tornado, that we will be replacing the wood structure. Steel would have been preferable but lumber came down from its peak and made steel less desirable price wise. While this is a relatively expensive build, we are not made of money and have had to make concessions where necessary while still getting the majority of the benefit of concrete/CICF construction. Thanks for watching!
