Part three in a series documenting the transformation of an existing storage space into an apartment for my daughter. In this video, I build a landing, step, short wall, and frame in the doorway from the existing bedroom. I run new water lines for the kitchen sink, and my daughter removes the old flooring in the bedroom.

A great start to my Monday… coffee and a video from my favorite builder!!! Your daughter is blessed to have such a wonderful dad. You two make quite a team. I can’t wait to see the final reveal and then, hopefully, more videos of the log cabin renovation.

I would make some hidden drawers under the bump out since there ia void space that is other wise wasted. This is a great idea to turn a wasted space into valueable space, This addition makes this house worth alot more.

I was wondering about that too, whether he might have put insulation in those void spaces. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have no clue, but seemed like possibly a good idea.

Just when I was feelin a lil sorry for myself due to some limitations (I try not to complain because there are ppl who have it alot worse than i do), I saw your posting & felt some semblance of happiness. Who cares if all it takes is some Holmes on Homes imitation to distract me? I get my amusement where I can. At least the kid has some serious floor demo talent & her assistants are hella cute. ✌️😸😹👋😁🐾🐾🇱🇷

@Madebymick Well, I was going to pay you a compliment regarding the fact that your home actually has curb appeal after you bought & remodeled it (it was a blight to eyeballs everywhere previously). I've decided against complimenting you for fear it will throw off your concentration and your kid will end up having a door where a window should be and a window where a door should be. The critters might enjoy some miniature critter doors customized to their liking. Plz, post as much content as you can so I can advocate for those po po lil critters. 👏😸✌️😹😹🐾🐾🇱🇷

I’m enjoying this series. Storage in small spaces is so important … I live in 365 square ft so learned to change a lot for storage .. the steps into the living space would have been great as extra storage even with the drain lines … every little space counts .. and it’s looking great.

A little intrigued about the creation of a little hallway with the stairs? Adding a closet? Storage bookcases? Thought it would be cool to have some built in bookcase squeezed into area the outside wall would have been. just big enough for paperbacks. So the transition between old house and new area would have these 6 or 8" wide bookcases recessed into the wall. Made out of plywood- then have the drywall butt up against them. would need a light in the stairway area to be able to read the titles of the books.

Nice video, the only thing I could even consider griping about is at 14:33. The angle of the lower part of the half wall doesn't match the angle of the ceiling and it just seems weird, but I havent seen it all buttoned up yet so we'll see how it looks I guess. Also its not my house, I just felt like giving my 2 cents. XD Keep up the good work!

Mick, did you give any thought to making it a heated floor? We live in Buffalo, and when we found out there was the possibility to put a heated floor in for the side of the house that's an addition we just couldn't afford it--but as soon as we can, we will!

concerned you didn't add any structural header to support remaining blocks/bricks at top of new door opening. Are not there rafters bearing on those?
@Madebymick
@Madebymick 20 күн бұрын
After looking it over, the top couple rows of bricks had been grouted with concrete and rebar making a sort of bond beam. I decided not to disturb that so I have a 2x header on each side supported by 2x2 trimmers. When I added the door jambs, I secured the brick, I feel good about it since there’s only one rafter from each side resting on it.
