House of Gucci starts with such promise as Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, and Al Pacino give performances that bring out the emotional complexity of the historically dysfunctional Gucci family. But then Ridley Scott becomes infatuated with tracking the fall of the corporation and its familial machinations instead of zeroing in on the more compelling personal implosion of Patrizia and Maurizio. Too much of the narrative is given over to side characters and scenes that are overindulgent, which lessens the potency of the tragic story and our investment in where they all end up.

It's fascinating how some reviews describe Patrizia Reggiani as "working class": "When Patrizia was 12, her mother Silvana married wealthy entrepreneur Ferdinando Reggiani, who later adopted Patrizia". That's hardly working class.

@@jfuentss Patrizia has an interesting accent even amongst other Italian English speakers, it’s quite unique. Sample various interviews with her in the 80’s here on KZfaq, before the effects of her weight gain and breathing changes, and you can then hear what Gaga has evidently modelled her accent on.

Huh, didn't expect this to be a 6... Then again The last Duel bombed at the box office and was an amazing movie.. So yeah, weird times indeed.

The Last Duel got mostly positive reviews, while House of Gucci is getting very mixed reviews. Box office numbers aren’t necessarily an indication of the quality of a film. On the other end of the spectrum, just look at Suicide Squad.

See, I'm afraid that's nonsense. You can absolutely tell an emotional story with plenty of character development in that time. It's always a sign of a really bad film when certain key scenes are cut short (see the argument between Mauritio and his father) yet there are half a dozen other scenes that could have been cut completely. The narrative in this film felt stumbling and lost and is the worst film I've ever seen from Ridley Scott, 6/10 is very generous.

The movie was too long and the second half dragged. It had a promising start but it fizzled . Lady Gaga was stellar however.

Most of the cast act in such an ostentatious and exasperating manner as to come close to caricature. Leto's performance is truly awful.

It's a re-telling of their actual life story, which was documented already over 20 years ago. This is like complaining about the ending of a Julius Caesar movie being "spoiled" ... we already know how it ends dummy, it's history.

Ridley Scott is my fav director but he's had more than a few stinkers. However, I'm not sure if going to IGN for a review of a movie like this is any different than going to the American Film Institute for an appraisal of Kong vs Godzilla.

The current generation is just pure DUMB. Alien Covenant and Prometheus are both great sci fi movies with literary and philosophical depth, but this generation prefers directors like Denis Villeneuve who churns out emotionally hollow movies with equally hollow visuals of big empty space ... lazy lazy visuals that appeals to shallow people ... The Counselor also suffers the same fate of being too intellectual and critics/audience baulked at requirement of trying to decipher what the movie is saying ... the same thing Blade Runner faced when it came out.

As Italian, this movie is so full of terrible american bloopers that makes it unbearable Many scenes shot in Italy, then you spot a truck with american brand which never was in Italy...a photographer with an Orlando Magic jersey (in Italy in 1990s NBA was barely discussed, who da hell would have had a jacket from Orlando Magic? LOL), and finally even a tribunal "American Style" never even resembling the one in Milan Dunno, so many discussions online about the deep-fake alike make up of Jared Leto....to then end up in these low rate details who makes the movie so "American" LOL

What movie did the reviewer see. It was super obvious Lady Gaga married for a name and money. Its not sweet at all. The character arc is Adam Driver he started so nice.
