And now in episode 8 where he picks up the crown and help his brother to the throne clearly shows how much respect and love he has for his brother.

So Viserys had leprosy. The actor stated it. He wasn't being poisoned, however, it is eluded that the previous Grand Maester wasn't necessarily doing everything he could to cure him. There's a scene where his understudy offers to prepare herbs and poultices that might better treat the King, but Melos immediately shoots him down, stating the leaches always gave him comfort. Leaches were only easing his pain, but no actual treatment was happening. After the understudy became the new Grand Maester, they began treating him properly, but by that point he was in constant agony so they were also giving him milk of the poppy pretty much all day long, basically liquid opium. He was high all the time so he wasn't in as much pain. Never once were insinuations made that Viserys was being poisoned. Like at the end of this episode when he passed away, he's not even 60 years old. The leprosy destroyed his body and made him look twice his age. I'd also like to point out his unworthiness of the Crown and why he had a terminal disease when Targaryens aren't supposed to get sick. In episodes 2 and 3, we can clearly see that the The Crabfeeder has greyscale, and after his death, Daemon drags him out of the cave, physically touching his hand as a point of contact for that highly infectious plague. But alas, Daemon does not contract greyscale because true blood of the dragons do not fall ill to such things. It's part of the magic in their blood, but Viserys did develope an illness that stayed with him his entire life because he's not a true dragon like Daemon or Daenerys generations later. It means he's an unworthy king, unfit to sit the Iron Throne because Targaryens shouldn't get sick. Him cutting himself frequently while on it eludes to that as well. True Kings would be uncut if accepted by the throne, but he was not.

Alicent’s look down and hugging the other hand maid could be read as her feeling sorry for what a shit her son is to the women of King’s Landing and how especially vulnerable the ones who work for him are. I wouldn’t automatically always assume poison. Also, the King has been missing his arm since ep. 6. Aegon and Haelana were betrothed between ep. 6 and 7, they mentioned it last episode urging one of the many well lit scenes (the bad lighting was really only Daemon and Rhaenyra, the Vhagar scene was too but only at first).

I will always love the way they portrayed the bond between daemon and Viserys. They may have fought a lot but in the end when Viserys needed help Daemon was there and the only person Viserys would allow to help him was his baby brother. Daemon have this like only I can beat my brother up mentality, criticizing Viserys all the time but as soon as someone else said something bad about Viserys infront of Daemon, Daemon defended him

I always love the little touch of Daemon's off-screen laughter in the dinner scene.

Viserys died happy. Thinking his family was united, thinking he had reassured Rhaenyra that the ice and fire dream is right, and seeing Aemma at the end. "My love" I don't think he was poisoned since Daemon didn't outright say it after smelling the tea. Seemed like it was only milk of the poppy mixed into tea, but we may get a line later saying he was

"that tea that's gonna kill that's gonna kill her" Holy heck. A character more nuanced than a Disney Evil Princess Malficent caricature doesn't exist. Why tf would Alicent kill the servant girl? What harm can she do to her family? Princes didn't get charged for assaulting servants at that time. The concept didn't even exist. Alicent telling the servant girl "I believe you" would be unbelievably progressive for that time period. Alicent was actually saving her life. The moment the girl accuses the Prince of any transgression they would have her whipped & thrown in a black cell or do what Roose Bolton did to Ramsay’s mom. So the Queen hugging & showing compassion to her was damn near a revolutionary act. PLease don't transplant 21st century sensibilities on medieval characters challenge (impossible).

I think for the Maester conspiracy to work not every one of them is in on it. There was something going on with the 1st grand maestor mellos and Otto but Visery's got better after Mellos presumably died offscreen and Maester Orwell took over, the maesters counted the votes at the big council at the beginning installing visery's as king and the faith is based in oldtown where Otto and the rest of the hightowers are based. The dinner scene is a masterclass of building trepidation through melancholy. Viserys watching these kids in a last dance before the Dance. Fleeting moments of bliss. Everyone hoping for the best, expecting the worst. For something so uneventfully peaceful, the passing was one of the most foreboding & viscerally filmed deaths I've seen. Book Viserys also doses off to the great beyond in his bed, after telling stories to grandkids. And then The oldest of daemon’s daughters has one but the youngest doesn’t, she’ll have to claim one now since her egg never hatched. The 3 eggs daemon took at the beginning of this episode is for their 3 new kids.

Yes. They have been poisoning Viserys tea for a quarter of a century! Westerosi nobles, famously known for very, very slown poisons, amirite? Or you know, a senile old man with leprosy was practically kept alive with a buncha concoctions so the Hightowers can rule in his name. Until finally when the senile old man with leprosy died a natural death. His wife was loyal and dutiful to him until the end. I guess not enough anime villain 5d chess. It's very poetic the seemingly 'fake' emotions at this dinner was actually the most authentic we've ever seen them. It was the only time they were NOT putting on their masks. It shows without the line of succession and primogeniture and all the other royal madness mirroring what existed in medieval Europe, these people could've been really good friends. But the system they lived in destined them to murder each other. It's like being born into rival blocks in southside chicago. You don't have a choice. The dinner sequence makes for so much regret and despair cause it was a tiny window to what could've been. They all knew it was the last moments of solitude, but at the same time they probably did delude themselves into thinking "maybe, just maybe things will work out". They’re all unwitting participants in a tragic theater that’s about to unfold.

They weren't poisoning Visery's, but Alicent 100% poisoned Dyana the hand maid. You could even hear her making a really weird gurgling sound after swallowing the tea, and Alicent looked extremely guilty and stared down at the floor while she drank it. Not to mention, Dyana was missing when Helaena came in looking for her, and she wouldn't be gone like that if it was just Plan B tea. I really lost any respect I had left for her during that scene.
