It is significant to the character of Benjicot Blackwood, but he isn't a Targaryan or a Hightower, so fuck him and his arc, I guess. They already cut out Nettles, Maelor is probably not happening and Daeron is still a kid. They only care about the interpersonal drama between Alicent and Rhaenyra, and the gender politics of women in power during medieval fantasy periods. The book is basically a historical account, so motivations are up to interpretation but they're taking way too many liberties in order to make characters likeable or unlikeable.

What do you expect? They're tabletop gamers. They live in imagination lands half the time. So you can definitely expect them to hate dialogue and only want action. To the point of it harming the story if they had it their way. This isn't a 25 episode show like the good days of TV where most things weren't total shit and could be fleshed out. We don't have time apparently these days for "filler", so the last thing you can expect is some battle being shown of almost no consequence. But no, Joe still wanted to see it. Hopeless.

There isn’t that much battles during the dance of dragon. The war is about two years long. There is like 5 major battles ( and I count the dragon battle over the god’s eye in this). Most of the Dance IS back stabbing and plots. I don’t think they need to go fast, 4 seasons should be enough to cover it all but I still wish they did 10 episode season so they can have more episode like this one, not more battles. Game of thrones had about 1 big battle by season and it was almost always the ninth episode. So that was 8 episode of plotting and story building. I gotta disagree. To me, this episode was the payoff of the first two so far. Major plot points moved forward, the main armies are starting to mobilize without clashing, and the principal characters realized they're too far along to avoid full-blown war. Also, the characters and performances are amazing, not to mention the cinematography. Aegon is the standout for me in this season the way Daemon was last season. The actor playing Aegon is really dancing around the line of making you hate him and empathize with his circumstances. This episode was a 9/10 for me and continues to build great tension with a satisfying amount of release.

Mark my word when the fighting begin people are going to miss this talking and political era than just some flashy fast paced action scene, just like people now miss the first 2 seasons of GOT because of this as well.

The book is a historical retelling from a 3rd party who wasn't there. There's going to be differences and R.R. said the show is what actually happened. Even with that being said, there's some major changes that can't be written off as "Maester Geldyne got it wrong and wasn't there"
@Thrashifice
@Thrashifice 20 күн бұрын
Yeah. There is show lore and book lore. I don't buy that "this is what actually happened." (I know that was said) The main thing is the relationship between Rhaenyra and Alicent. Alicent was in her mid 20's and was never a BFF to Rhaenyra. I don't think the chapters of the book got the fact of Alicent being 10 years older than Rhaenyra wrong. That could be easily confirmed. The show is trying too hard to provide fan service to watchers of GoT.

Just to clarify, he didn't say that what happens in the show it's what actually happened in the book, like it's book canon, he just explained the different approaches between the book and the show. Meaning that Fire & Blood was a history book told by maesters with a lot of speculation and biases, and that the show wasn't gonna do that, it would be just a straight narration, that's what he was trying to explain. What happens in the show i'ts only cannon to the show itself and the GOT original, maybe.

That is objectively not true, since George has repeatedly said the show is the show and the book is the book. Things have happened in the show that CANNOT happen in the book. And characters are completely different, Rhaenyra and Alicent are completely different characters.

The Alicent and Rhaenyra scene was solid. It set the stage for Rhaenyra to have motivation to steel her heart for war. Aegon also had a vision (and mediated for 7 days, or so the faith of the Seven influenced authors say) and then went to conquer the 7 kingdoms. The scene shows that Alicent is not Rhaenyra's equal as a ruler. Alicent thought Aegon mean her son Aegon II without thinking it could be Aegon or Aegon III.

I had way way more of an enjoyable time watching this week's HOTD episode than this week's Boys episode (god that farm stuff dragged on) and obviously Acolyte (when is that not mid or total shit?). So uhhhhh, this review is asinine as far as taste. You guys are too obsessed living in a tabletop gaming mindset and it very much translates to how you view a show with medieval elements. Like it doesn't really surprise me even. I'm not surprised you guys (especially AJ) would go the caveman route reviewing an episode like this.

These guys have become insufferable when it comes to this show. Not paying attention to the plot and getting things wrong, nitpicking the fu*k out of pointless things just for the sake of coming off as "proper critics" and they are hypocrites. They criticized season 8 of GOT for just focusing on battles with no character development and now they wish that for this season. This was a shitty review

I actually thought not showing the Bracken vs Blackwood fight gave more impact to the scene. Going from a bunch of young men squabbling, straight to a field completely filled with dead bodies shows the devastating consequences of war. It was an effective way of mirroring what's about to happen to house Targaryen itself, without investing too much time and resources in filming a battle that isn't necessarily crucial to the main plot.
