What could've helped Aegon and his dream that he had was to either leave dragon eggs for the Starks and trained them to guard the Wall. Or they've could've made a pact together to have one of the Starks marry one of Aegon's daughter to secure the idea of a future war against the White Walkers.

Interesting that Stark, Baratheon, Arryn and Tully were the major houses they were trying to get together, the same that were needed to take down the Targs in the end.

It’s because of the strength those houses hold.. The vale, the North, and the storm lands are all necessary strategic pieces to not only winning but holding the throne

These houses generally believe in allying with each other and political marriages. The Lannisters generally just marry each other (Tywin and Johanna were cousins) or their bannermen as do the Tyrells, who would normally just choose a Hightower, Peake, Tarly or Reach bannermen when they're not trying to join the throne. The Martells similarly marry whoever they want and are the trump card in any alliance, as Dorne is nearly impossible to defeat on home soil. The Tullys in particular always try to ally with someone as the Riverlands always divide when there is a conflict, and the three biggest houses- Blackwood, Frey and Bracken are unreliable as allies.

it truly is, I think they're major houses, of which the result is the minor surrounding Houses will automatically align with them, thus them being a formidable force to be reckoned with, which probably explains why The Blacks will need them so much

I like the role the Starks play in the Dance. The friendship between Cregan and Jace, Jace possibly falling in love with a Lady Stark, the rumor of dragon eggs being laid in the Crypt, the pact of marriage between a Targaryen princess and Stark lord, the Song and eventual birth of Jon, and then the hour of the Wolf at the end when Cregan takes over as Hand to bring justice to oathbreakers and securing the next heir’s place

In all honesty, it does make you wonder just how much of our recorded history is based on just one person's version of events. I don't mean fiction but our world and our history. How much of our history is actual truth and how much of it is based on another's perception of truth. What's the saying, something about the victor writes the history. Obviously, I'm referring to long ago history, like Roman times, not just a few decades ago.

I hope they start Season 2 slow and focus on Jace in Winterfell and the aftermath in King's Landing when Aemond returns. We don't need to jump into big events too quickly, and the Stark connection is so important for the rest of the story. As a book reader, I'm enjoying the surprises they've worked in so far.

The irony could be that somewhere between Queen Rhaenyra and the current timeline, the Targaryen's lost the dream narrative but since, most likely, the Starks were privy to Aegon's dream, they would have taken that seriously. Hence the overemphasis and gravitas to which Ned says "Winter is Coming."

the Starks and the north maintain a long history of oral tradition and also have the occasional green dreamer, since they worship the old gods. The other houses are stuck with the Faith of the Seven (or the Drowned God) which doesn't treat prophecy as truth. The Valyrians had blood magic and dragon dreams, but it seemed to stop after the dragons died out. Jahareys II was the first king to have a sense of the prophecy , forcing Aerys II and Rhaelle to marry each other (necessarily to be honest)

I have a feeling maybe they might further expand on the overarching plot of the white walkers and Aegon's prophecy, in an attempt to fix Season 8 and maintain it's significance into the Jon Snow series.

Yeah one thing about the The Starks is they are consistent if not anything else. They are not schemers or backstabbers and they could care less about the actual Game Of Thrones. They take oaths and loyalty very seriously and literally. It’s good to have a Stark as a friend.. you do not want them as an enemy.

I'm glad you touched on this topic. I suspect that the ''King who Knelt" didn't surrender to Aegon, he allied with the Targaryens. As soon as I learned about the Targaryen prophecy of uniting the kingdoms against a threat from the far North, I suspected that the Stark King who knelt, did so because he was told about the prophecy. After all, the Starks built the wall and their motto is "Winter is Coming", so they'd believe it, since it's in line with their own beliefs. So, why wouldn't Aegon share his vision with them? They'd be the only ones not sceptical, and he could promise a united Westeros sending troops to man the wall.

During Aegon’s conquest the Stark’s king had a vision that’s why his half brother wanted to infiltrate Aegon’s camp to kill the dragons with an arrow made of Weirwood tree

Cregan Stark is going to be a top 3 popular character surpassing Rhaenys and Aemond once the series is over. I think Daemon and Rhaenyra are safe at 1 & 2 as both were always the most popular during the Dance Era way before this TV series was created. My nationality has a lot of traits of the Starks. 🇵🇭 Very family-oriented and loyal. I can't wait when they finally announce who will portray Cregan Stark. I believe it's any time now because they start shooting in March. Maybe earlier than that. They probably have an idea already who they want for Cregan but haven't made anything official. It's funny reading actors mocking their own characters. Like Emma is taking Alicent's side and Olivia called Alicent a Trump woman with crazy children. Remember, Olivia Cooke did audition for Rhaenyra but the casting crew felt she would make a great Alicent and she is. The entire cast are crushing their roles across the board.

I was just learning about the Firewyrms and those seem super interesting and I hope we get something about old Valeria leading up until the doom. I think I need a chart, an illustrated roll call of all of the characters. I haven't tackled GOT but watched House of the Dragon for the dragons so I came into this series cold. It will be interesting to see what comes in the next year of production.

I wonder if we’ll get a Mushroom character in the show. At this stage it seems unlikely, but the showrunners could use him (and his enormous member) as a fool for comic relief. As for Cregan Stark, he’s my favourite character in the world of Westeros. I cant wait to see who they cast the Wolf of the North.

As always, great video Charlie. A couple of questions if I may? First, do they film HOTD at the Paint Hall in Belfast, or someplace else? And will they use the same filming location GOT did for Winterfell? Gosh I can hardly wait to see the old place again. I've missed it. And that shot of Drogon and Rhaegal flying over Winterfell never gets old. I hate season 8 with a red hot passion, but there were some scenes that could move the heart. Some others moved the bowls. 😂

It was largely filmed in England this time, with some KL scenes in Iberia. They built a replica throne room at Leavesden studios just north of London. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Winterfell - make it more book accurate or keep continuity with GoT. They found a halfway solution with the Iron Throne so they might try that again somehow.

That rumor also comes from Mushroom who described events in the books from the tv show he wasn't even present for.

How cool would it be if Aegon’s telling Stark about his dragon dream inspired the “Winter is Coming” motto? That way Aegon could tell him, but only Aegon’s heirs would actually be able to share the full prophecy. (I haven’t read the books they may have already have an explanation for that 😅)

@@jalertunggal7950 Clive is sure, Alex easily passes as early 20s. Not to mention 1 for 1 accuracy has never been their biggest priority in this series or Game of Thrones. We'll see though. If there's one thing I love about these 2 series is that it introduced me to so many actors that I've never heard of that absolutely nailed it so there very well could be someone you described waiting in the wings for this character, after all the 2 people I mentioned are fairly established actors and not exactly "niche" choices

Didn’t they say in the books that Bran from GOT looked identical to others Starks through history. Starting the theory that Bran was traveling through time as the 3 eyed raven. Would it be crazy if they get the same actor who played Bran, to play this new Stark in S2. Showing it’s a family resemblance 😂

the Starks repeat their names and appearances a lot. There is a "Stark look" that many members have- dark hair, sullen expressions, ice eyes. Arya and Jon have that look but the others all look like Tullys.

So there was a theory that Bran the builder and Bran in present time where the same, just time traveled somehow. Cregan Stark will get a major role in Season 2 not because he is a big character in House of Dragon books but because Starks are love from GoT season. Otherwise Cregan Stark came at the end of the House of Dragon civil war and didn't do much during the hour of the wolf....

one thing I dont understand about these books and this time period. you said 8000 years ago was the first long night? so 8000 years of no advancement in technology? Everyone is still living like they are in the dark ages after 8000 years?

Yeah, that's one of my issues with this story and even "Lord of the Rings" if you think about it. They span thousands of years, and they seem to not get past a Medieval-like period? However, we didn't really start making true technological progress until the Enlightenment and the start of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. Illiteracy has a lot to do with it too. Even the ruler of Storms End was illiterate in this story. So maybe it's not too farfetched for the world in these stories to be "stunted" technologically for so long.

They even went backwards as modern Westeros people cannot build a Wall, but Bran the Builder could thousands of years ago, also a ton of those castles are marvels of engineering not possible to repeat by modern day HOTD or GoT Westerosi. But it's fantasy, usually it is set in Medieval period, although it would be interesting to see also Valyria and how GoT would look set in something like 18th century :D Further in future

Jon answers to Maester Aemon that if Ned Stark were to choose between love and duty, he would choose whichever was the right thing to do. I personally think he would never not defend the child of his beloved sister. He loved her.

I don't think even Robert would get in the middle of that especially because I don't think Ned agreed with the genocide that was committed to the Targaryens either. He would kill Robert for Lyannas child without question if he felt he had to and there was no choice. Which is why he hid Jon's true birth and parentage from Robert, he knew Robert might likely try to kill Jon.
