I'm currently building a shed and actually have the walls and roof already framed - I just stumbled upon this series of videos while looking for the best way to put the metal roof on. I wish I would have seen these videos before I even started - I would definitely have done things a little differently! :) Oh well - maybe I'll build another shed in the future...if so, I'm definitely following Shannon's plan!

ive watched a few shed building videos but i must admit these are very good because they point out these easy mistakes (such as squaring up)...i also like the over hang idea for the walls...

Built a 10'x14' storage shed in NW Ontario and dropping the sheeting 4" below the bottom plate is brilliant. In the past I just dropped the OSB flush with the bottom plate, this makes so much more sense. Provides that little bit more protection to an area where water can penetrate and just sit between the floor and the plate. Also if you're putting up the walls by yourself found this easier with the lip and tapping the walls back. In hindsight I shouldn't of bought all treated 2x10's for the joists on the platform cause they are out of the weather (laminated 2 treated 2x12's on three sides and the 4th side used 1 2x12 and tied into an existing deck with carriage bolts). I lucked out with vinyl double paned windows picked up 7 for free so used 2 on the shed also got 3 metal doors for free. I figure with tyvek wrap, vinyl siding, metal roof and soffit, 5/8" T&G floor, bought 4 trusses and made 2 gable end trusses. Whole project was less than $3k CDN. Predrilling the holes on the metal roof would of looked better aesthetically but I wanted to bite into the trusses as well as the sheeting whenever possible.

The plywood on the floor was layed that way to avoid having a unsupported seam between every joist which creates a weak area that would have need some extra blocking. I do not trust OSB to always be square, it is usually very close but if that were a longer wall and you had 3 or 4 sheets that where only out of square a little it makes a big difference.Thanks for your comments though.

Usually sheet goods will be close, but not always perfect. Also checking the diagonals allows you to do some tweaking in order that the frame is close before the sheet is in the way.

Another thing I notice and like about the nail guns is that you can easily use more nails where traditional maybe 1 nail would have been put because the builder would be doing it by hand and could be getting tired. Great series I always enjoy this channel's videos.

Been following your videos for the last few years now, keep up the good work!

This is a CF325. I've been very happy with it. This is my second paslode framing nailer, I had the olded model before and it worked very well also, this one is made for the newer gas cartridges so you don't need an adapter anymore. The main thing with these guns is to keep them cleaned regular and keep them out of the dirt. I worked for a bigger company years ago and we used them but they were not looked after well and so they had problems. They sure speed you up.

The length of the walls I kept an inch short so that once the OSB was added from the other wall it would be right on 8' long.

I took 3 woodworking classes in one year of high school. Build a bunch of boxes bongs and chairs. Now I need to store all my tomatoes in one

I left the OSB down so that when I frame the roof and sheet the gable area I can nail the osb to the top plate of the wall as well to fasten it together better.
