Meaning it was a new type of group in the fbi’s systems, which adds further to this being real. 8/1 working to get in contact with the authors of the original Baltimore sun article. Imagine being an FBI agent and getting recommended a KZfaq video about a VHS tape you accidentally donated to goodwill along with all your kid's old Disney tapes

I'm a retired video professional of 40 years, and I can give you two clues, the word "PLAY" in the top left is imbedded. That is to say, it is not being displayed by the machine that is playing the VHS tape, but another machine that was playing the video, when this COPY was recorded. Second, the cut to TV shots or other video were not accidental, they have the type of "flip", that is only caused by a "pause". If the other shots were recorded before or after the main video, (recorded over) a large static band would have rolled from top to bottom, or bottom to top, (in case of a change of recorders) so this is to say they were put there intentionally. (P.S. Jerry Hill was a very controversial player in the JFK assassination, as an officer involved in the arrest of Oswald that came up with a handgun used to shoot officer Tippet, that reportedly did not match the evidence of shells and bullets.)

I work at a library and quite often people just donate a bunch of things, including personal DVDs. It's just "I don't know what this, I don't have any way of disposing it, I'm just going to throw it in the donate pile and let them deal with it". Some of the weird stuff people have donated is just insane. Not to mention what people put in books themselves. Just a month ago, someone put their social security card in one and thankfully the last name matched the person who checked it out. But some of the letters and photos i've found... I try not to think about it.

One tiny detail I noticed was the article that mentioned the police (?) were suspecting the tape was made by a Disney employee because it referred to Disney visitors as “guests”, which is how Disney employees refer to them. But the thing is that in japan all customers and visitors in general are usually referred to as “guests,” as far as I’m aware. It’s part of the culture to refer to customers as “お客さん” or “o-kyaku-san” which means “guest, client, visitor, customer.” But is normally translated as guest because it sounds very polite. It’s got two honourifics on it. So that’s just more evidence to me that the tape could also have been made by someone from Japan

My guess is Jerry Hill passed away, the tape was among random stuff of his in a box that was donated when going through his estate. A lot of weird stuff ends up at Goodwill and other thrift stores this way.

Just a thought, but "Dead guest" could be a poor translation of ゲスト死ね which translates roughly to "Death to the guests" or "the guest must die". In relation to crowds of people who bought tickets to places like theme parks or to a concert, the word ゲスト is used, which just sounds like the English guest, leading to the mistranslation The old images of people from the 19th and early 20th centuries is an oblique reference to the ancestors of the park guests. Aum Shinrikyo were very obsessed with spirituality and play deeply into the traditional Japanese belief of ancestral respect. These images arrayed like that in a threatening way are effectively implying to the park guests "you're gonna go to hell" to use a westernised equivalent

This is the most incredible thing I've ever seen. How often does a tape mentioned in a completely forgotten crime news article actually show up, straight from the FBI files and fully viewable nonetheless? And the crazy thing is, the tape looks fake. The pacing feels so weird and almost satirical. And yet its real! The truth truly is stranger than fiction.

My thoughts - this was a real plot and it was 'foiled' when the perps were apprenhended at LAX. The tape in question was likely confiscated at that time and either a copy or (more likely) a note describing the threat and tape's contents was sent to Disneyland's security office by the authorities to warn them. If a copy wasn't sent to them, the spokesperson for Disney or the reporter could have simply mistaken something that was said to them and thought the actual tape was sent to the office.

As someone who has cleaned up or assisted with liquidating/donating a deceased person's belongings, I believe Jerry had the tape at home, forgot about it, and his family members just dumped anything that didn't have sentimental value. Of course we could make this into a whole lot more sinister tale, with questionable motives and full of intrigue, but a prosaic explanation may very well be the logical one.

This is wicked cool! I too haunt the thrifts for VHS weirdness, but my only real trophy is a Thrifty Corp employee training film filmed as a George Romero pastiche called "Dawn of the Damaged Goods." I also scored a Mary Kay training audiotape over-recorded by an angry woman who felt ripped off. She's drunker and drunker, breaking in over the instructor to rave and rage about MK's policies. Then her husband comes home--she records his reaction on the tape!--then, the next interruption is the two of them drunk off their asses singing pop love songs off-key.

I'm pretty sure that "undisclosed street" is South Harbor Blvd in Anaheim (runs parallel to the Disneyland Resort). I'm from Orange County and I'm very familiar with the area having visited Disneyland on a frequent basis (but this video was 3 years before I was born and I have no idea what this area looked like in the 90s). Regardless, from the looks of it the camera is on the side of the street where many hotels and restaurants, and is facing the park (I can tell from the hedges). I recommend going on google street view and looking at South Harbor Blvd if you're curious. I could be wrong, but if I'm not this gives a pretty clear indication that whoever made the tape was in the area around Disneyland, which in my opinion, furthers the connection. Anyways, great content as always! Update: I looked at the street view myself and realized since the monorail isn't in the shot, this would have to be the intersection of S Harbor and Disney Way if this video was taken around Disneyland. Keep in mind that you'll see the Tower of Terror/Guardians of the Galaxy Ride in the google streetview, but that it wasn't built until 2004. In 1995 that area would have been under construction for the California Adventure park. It doesn't look exactly the same but also it has been 25 years and Disney has done a lot to the area since then. Hope a local's take means anything to anyone lol.

If anyone's interested - at the same time that this was happening in the US, the group was purchasing property in Australia looking for uranium. The 1995 raids mentioned also happened at this facility where chemicals, laboratory equipment and computer equipment were noted publicly as being present Please note that this location was in the middle of the desert western Australia, so getting computers out there would have been difficult and very rare at the time When the raid happened signs of cattle killed by sarin were discovered There was also an explosion in this area in may 1993 that could either have been an asteroid, or a bomb test of some type due to the size of the reported blast wave - although no signs of either have ever been confirmed. I think I can explain some of the discrepancies surrounding the Disneyland Spokesman... sort of. I used to work with a very large, multi-national oil and gas company, handling radioactive sources. We received training in how to handle the media should a radioactive source go missing, and it essentially boiled down to: Don't talk to the press. Let someone qualified do it, and refer reporters to management. The biggest reason this policy was in place was because of how easy it is for details to change between talking to reporters. Also it is very easy for you to misspeak, causing panic and misunderstanding. As I understand it, this policy was put in place after a source fell off a truck, and poor communication between employees on the scene and reporters led to just such a miscommunication.

I’m not sure this is the best place for this, but I don’t want to make anyone wait any longer. Fist, just so everybody knows, my dad worked as a special agent in the Portland FBI office for the greatest part of his career (approx. 1971-2001). However, it’s important to note that during the time period most relevant to the tape, this video, and Agent Jerry Hall’s alleged work on the contents of the VHS tape in conjunction his tenure with the FBI, my dad was working almost exclusively on drug related cases. This is important because, at this particular time, the majority of his work was under cover. Thus, he and his fellow agents working under cover with him spent most of their time living and working from an offsite building which served as their crash pad/drug den. Because of the considerable risk involved, my dad rarely visited the main office during this time…if it so happened that one of his less than scrupulous contacts became suspicious and decided to run surveillance on him, not only could he blow his cover, but it could also turn deadly for him. So, even though my dad has no memory of an agent Jerry Hall, it is possible he simply never met him or worked with him in any capacity during this part of his career. Incidentally, my family and I also saw very little of my dad during this time…so little, in fact, my parents ended up divorcing because my mom couldn’t stand the stress of never knowing if my dad was dead or alive. This was a fear based on the company he was forced to keep at this time. Having said all the above, my dad goes to a monthly luncheon organized for retired agents in the Portland area, Not only has an agent Jerry Hall never been in attendance, but none of my father’s colleagues are able to recall either the agent or the incident discussed in the VHS tape. Furthermore, retired agents periodically receive a volume similar to a telephone log or phone book and the agent isn’t listed in of these. Of course, these sources are not exhaustive. People still fall through the cracks or choose to remain anonymous. According to my dad, the number one point of suspicion that the VHS tape is a hoax or something of that nature, is simply how it was recovered…or that it exists at all. To have something that was at one time considered a piece of evidence, even if it’s not that important, turn up at a place like Goodwill (as opposed to being destroyed or put under lock and key in an FBI storage facility) is highly unusual and extremely alarming. That’s not to say that it could never happen, but it is definitely a rare occurrence. Losing track of a piece of evidence could get an agent fired. Simply losing track of a piece of evidence could destroy a case that multiple agents spent months or even years meticulously building. On the surface, my dad said, the VHS tape doesn’t necessarily seem that explosive in terms of its content. However, that just doesn’t matter. Ultimately, an agent can never know how important or unimportant something might be to a case. Therefore, every possible piece of evidence gets equal protection. Anyway, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to blow the case wide-open. Having said that, I hope people find this at least a little bit interesting. Thanks for your patience!

Fun fact: In their headquarters the cult even produced their own anime with multiple episodes. I watched all of it a few years ago, it's over a hour of footage. Most of it is about their leader showing off his holy skills, like levitating, healing, helping other people finding piece in their lifes by joining their cult and sharing his powers with his believers. Just now watched the video, great content. To answer a question you have, i was told this by a buddy of mine in a specific 3 letter agency. The bottom of the tape states "copy of pertinent segment". So its just a small snippet of the original tape, probably used for analysis. And with it not being secret material, well could have made its way to an agents home for study.

Normally I too would find it hard to believe that an FBI tape just somehow ended up at Goodwill, however my friends and I came across something when we were 17 that makes me believe this stuff happens. We were out exploring in some woods behind an old farm house and a run down distribution type warehouse. My friends and I discovered a small pond at the back of the property where there was TONS of homicide case files. Everything from typed reports to pictures to VHS tapes. We glanced at a few of them, realized what they were and quickly left. I have always wondered how that all got there, the only theory I have is some old homicide detective passed away with all those files at his house and then they got thrown out (I could be way off base). Truth does turn out to be stranger than fiction sometimes...

I was in the US Army as an EOD Sergeant when this took place. There are a few EOD units that specialize in this type of incidents, as a guess I would say look at Aberdeen Proving Ground/ Fort Detrick md. Most citizens have no clue. Great channel...loved the video...

Heyo, as someone who used to work in the Portland area at a Goodwill, I thought I'd add something about the Goodwill Outlet where this was found : that district, and especially the Portland stores specifically, get way more donations than stores in their same district. If there's too much of one category, items that seem lower quality will be much more likely to be sent straight to the outlet ("bins" is also what they get called). Usually some categories will get sent to other stores that need more, especially if one store is needing clothes, since those sell like hotcakes for good profits. Categories like VHS tapes and utensils get sold for nearly nothing, something like 10-25 cents a pop, so they get less eyes on them, especially when compared to the much more lucrative and interesting books category in the same sorting tub. VHS tapes don't get checked for their footage, ever, and if things are really busy, they won't even get checked for their labels. If they don't have a sleeve, chances they go straight to the outlet. Working as a door assistant / price setter / etc in those stores is super hectic. It's pretty likely that employee hands were on this tape for only a few seconds. I wonder if anything else from the same donor is floating around there with equally interesting contents...

It's probably nothing but the "M" could be used to indicate the master tape. Back many years ago I did a lot of bootlegging or tape trading and we had to label things by generation since quality would decrease with every copy made. This was before lossless formats. The five taps on the package that's shown in the freezer is really making me curious too.

I've worked in police records. I can tell you when you get the "no responsive records" response, that doesn't always necessarily mean that what you're looking for doesn't exist, nor that the agency is necessarily trying to "cover up" its existence. Open records law does compel law enforcement agencies to release records, but at the same time there are reasonable limits that can be imposed on a request. If you ask the FBI for all the murder files from 1995, for example, that could be an example of an unreasonable, overly broad request, as it would entail producing files for thousands and thousands of cases, many of which may still be open, and all of which would likely have to be thoroughly reviewed and redacted before release. So that would be an example of a denial. No responsive records often ends up being the response when a) the agency genuinely doesn't have records related to an individual or incident on file, and b) when the requestor hasn't asked for the right material. For example, if a requestor asks for all the body camera footage from an agency related to a crash, but that agency doesn't have body cameras (even though it has squad car cameras), it would not be obligated to produce the squad cameras, and could reply "no responsive records." There are also situations where you think you've gotten "everything" but you might not have. For example, a frequent request is "all records related to an incident." If you don't get more specific than that, you may get nothing more than the written report, and there may be more evidence, audio, video, or photos in the file. Your request was not explicit in regards to the audio-visual media, however, so it was not pulled or processed. If you want help placing a request to a law enforcement agency that will cover what you're looking for, you may try to get a lawyer. Law firms frequently place record requests and know the exact terminology to use when they're trying to flush out the complete files from a case.

Before I even got to the end I was like "I bet he found it at a goodwill outlet". While I've never found anything quite this crazy, you can find a lot of oddball stuff there. I've found stuff like legal paperwork and adoption papers and old diaries and stuff. It's definitely the place to go to find people weird old home movies and stuff if you're into found footage.

A possible reason why the New York FBI office was involved is that because during that time frame, the Counter-Terrorism (CT) office of the FBI was in the New York Branch office. They took the lead in all terrorism related activity within the US. Most investigators were centered there, but it was very common to task out specific investigations to other offices. Interesting fact, at that time, the CT office was led by John O'Niel, who would later be killed when the World Trade Center collapsed during the 9/11 Terrorism Attacks.
