Not caring isn't a strength, it's a weakness. Today we explore the tragedy of being unmoved by the good, true, and beautiful.
...
In Develop with Dante, we explore the age-old archetypes of self-development as found in the Divine Comedy. We travel together through the seven terraces of Purgatory to explore what Dante has to teach us not just about the afterlife, but about ourselves.
Each terrace of Purgatorio (Purgatory) represents one of the seven deadly sins. At each terrace, Dante shows us how these sins hold us back from achieving what we want in life, and he teaches us what to do to overcome them.
This video covers the fourth terrace of Dante's Purgatorio, the terrace of Acedia.
If you haven't already seen the introductory video to this series, I highly recommend you watch it before watching the other episodes.

Acedia is perhaps the worst and most widespread sin in our culture today. In this video I suggest one practical way we can begin to overcome it: by looking to beautiful art, music and literature as sources of inspiration, joy and wonder. This list doesn't end there, however. Among other things, family, community, and relationship with the Divine are of course other impactful cures to the sins of acedia and sloth. If you enjoyed this video, give it a like and leave me a comment to share what you got out of it. Lastly, I'd like to thank the church bells for a very timely contribution to this video. A perfect ending, right? To explore the next terrace or watch the series overview video, visit the full Develop with Dante playlist below: kzfaq.info/sun/PLQNV7Ov7-4edNRMCiDGdi20hMOXulK3KX

What an auspicious closing shot with the church bells! ✨ Learning (or re-learning) to appreciate small moments of beauty, and finding something important to you to care about, are pretty darn timeless as far as paths to help break out of joylessness. Dante gets it.

I'm an atheist, but thanks for the insight. I will try to find greatness in beauty around me, starting from now: I must remark that this was a beautifully shot and well-written video :)

Acedia isnt just not caring, its more like not caring, while at the same time wishing you did care but you cant. You feel completely dead to the core, bored out of your mind, want to be moved, and appreciate all you have, you want to want to go do something but nothing and i mean nothing sounds even remotely appealing, its like a cloud of deadness comes and smothers your soul and all you can seem to do is wait the 4 or 5 hours that seem like 400 years for it to lift off you. Or pray to God to get it off you.
