The Youth Cafe, in collaboration with the Election Observation Group (ELOG), hosted a session titled "How AI and Big Data Might Impact and Shape Electronic Processes in Kenya" at the People's Dialogue Festival on March 7, 2024. The session, held within the Political Dialogue Village section, was moderated by Willis Onyango, Executive Director of The Youth Cafe.
The discussion centered on the potential implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on Kenya's electoral processes, exploring both its advantages and disadvantages. Additionally, the session examined how big data could potentially exacerbate inequality by favoring well-funded political parties.
A key focus of the session was on youth engagement. The discussion highlighted the importance of AI literacy and the development of educational programs to inform young voters about the role of AI in elections. This emphasis aimed to address the frequent neglect of youth participation in electoral campaigns.
The session attracted a diverse audience, including university and high school students, government officials, and representatives of civil society organizations.
