Hello everyone, continue with today's video, I will record the process of machining gears, also known as steel billets, which I will reuse from any broken steel shaft, let's see how I process it.

Very nicely done. Retired master machinist here and I have worked with everything from manual machinery to cnc lathes and hobbing machines. What always amazed me was how many machinists with years of experience were baffled by dividing heads and the associated plates. 17 holes is equal to 2 full turns and 6 holes on a 17 hole plate (or 12 on a 34). My plant made thousands of similar gears and we cut the splines with a pull broach. Of course this is used only for mass production. Your way is perfect for small shops and limited number made. Again I say well done great workmanship.

55 year old tool and diemaker and ive never had to use the plates. I just didnt do that kind of work. Respect for those who do use them. It seems easy to mess up

@@d.b.creation6016 A simple explanation using the diametral pitch system and inch measurement. O.D =N+2/DP where N is number of gear teeth and DP is Diametral pitch. So assuming a 45 tooth spur gear of 18 pitch the formula is 45+2 = 47/18 = 2.611 inches for the outside diameter. The formula is basically the same for gears in the module (metric) system but is a bit more complex when helical gear diameters are calculated. There you need to include trig function of helix angle.

I have made cutters to cut internal splines as shown from hss blanks and I have sharpened many gear hobs as shown . Most of the time I never get to see them in action . Nice finished gear by the way.

нифига себе на коленке, у него были все специализированные станки необходимые для ее изготовления, даже зуборезный с спиральной модульной фрезой

Finally someone who understands a machining video should NOT be shortened by simply increasing playback speed. But by cutting instead. Excellent video. And he knows his machinist job as well.

Great work. I love how you used a paint brush to clean the shavings away. My dad was a toolmaker and used a paint brush at home for that sort of thing. Made me smile.

I'm very curious about the bolt you used on the inside bore... I've never seen that done before. Did you use it to smooth the ID? The shot was so short I couldn't tell.

I believe the bolt had a cutting edge welded onto it so it could cut a chamfer on the internal shoulder.

It is a cutting alloy that is welded to the knife base with a copper layer

This is one of the best basics of machining a complete part videos I have ever seen, you have a good way of filming, show each step well, no need to show yourself talking to much, just real craftsmanship with vintage machinery. I know there are heaps of videos like this, but some US ones using big dollar machinery (unaffordable) to some (India, Afghanistan, China) dirt floor rubbish that would not know what a micrometer is (to rough). Keep up the videos

Your "tooth ring" is for engaging the end of a spur gear when it is shifted along the spline shaft. Mostly seen in very old non synchro transmissions .

@@thdVn in a typical older spur gear manual transmission , the input shaft is geared to the counter cluster gears and then to the output shaft for the lower gears. The highest gear is 1:1, where the input & output shafts being co-linear are coupled at their ends when that sliding gear e engages

Не совсем так. 40:17=2 6/17. 6/17*2=12/34. Получается на каждый шаг 2 целых оборота и 12 точек на 34 кругу.

Yes sir that's how it is done. Fine work I've cut from forages hobbed and shaved every gear in the off road commercial equipment industry. Helical gears lapped all of it. Nice work.
