Farming conditions in the Alps are often extreme. Terrain and weather bring a lot of challenges. Today we helped with the hay harvest on a farm on a steep slope in central Austria.

I can't even imagine, I can barely mow the banks by our pond because of the slope without thinking I am going to fall over and have the tractor on me. 🤣😂 But this is breathtaking for sure, almost a true vertical climb steeper than a racetrack turns! The scenery is truly amazing!

It certainly is very beautiful dense hay! I enjoy following you from one country to another. Many of my relatives have been farmers. And my and those relatives' ancestors were from Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland along the Austrian border. And all those ancestors ended up in Wisconsin, USA still farming. What you show helps me connect to my genealogical past.

One year, a neighbour was combining a steep hill and it tipped over, caught on fire and torched the crop. Fortunately his other neighbours were home, saw the smoke and rescued him, then got everyone from the region to get the fire out before he lost more than one crop. We used to collect hay with draught horses and wagons.
