@@oliwierprzepiora7678 Outperform is kind of a stretch considering what Vettel often endured in terms of luck and strategy in both seasons. Vettel still had immensely better drives even when you could tell he was losing interest and looking to spend more time with his family. I think if the car was as good as it is now, Vettel's focus on the sport might have been maintained and he would have handedly beaten Stroll like Alonso has. Sometimes what your confidence needs most is the tool to deliver. Even Alonso didn't exactly have stellar drives every session in the Mclaren Honda days.

Currently, Alonso has 31 points, and Stroll has 9 points. That's all you need to know. Daddy must remove Junior from the car and put him in the bay where "his technical knowledge" is utilized. Then, they need to find a better driver who can eventually take over from Alonso when he eventually retires. If they wait, it'll be too late to train up someone better. F1 is, has always been, and always will be a "playground for rich kids" (primarily). It's not fair, but motorsports are really very expensive to compete in. Pretty much the only other path to success is to be very good, very young and catch the eye of someone willing to foot some or all of the bill in place of your parents. That said - even in a playground for rich kids, Lance's dad is actively walking around with him and pushing other kids down, kicking them off the slide, and reserving a swing spot for his son even when he is not using it.

I think Stroll has some real potential, but not for F1. Put him in an endurance race like the 24 hours, and I think with time and training he could possibly get some nice results. Main reason I'm not a fan is his personality, the incident in China between him and Ricciardo and how Lance reacted to it is the perfect example. He gave F1 a fair shot, and for that he has my respect just like I respect all other drivers. But I feel like he should could his losses, retire, save face while he still can, and open up a spot for someone like Liam Lawson, Felipe Drugovich, Oliver Bearman etc... I hate to say it, but at this point he's just holding back the team and other talented younger drivers :/ Your assesment was harsh at points, but fair. When people cite his F3 championship, they forget two things: 1) It may be a 'spec' series, but you're mad if you think all teams/cars are actually equal, and stroll was well financed to get a good seat 2) Winning F3 even on merit doesn't mean you're good enough to take the step up to the elite level. Some people simply have a ceiling. Stroll has his moments, and he's a particularly good starter (although some of that may reflect poor qualifying performance), but one of the traits of an elite performer is consistency, and his only consistency is underperforming. You can't live off a pole and a couple of podiums forever. There's ability in there in fits and bursts, but mad mistakes and collisions more frequently.

Does he belong I F1, should he stay in F1 or is he even good enough for F1? No, no and no. But I would give so many things to be a F1 driver. I would be sooo happy for my dad to support me in my endeavors. If I was Lance I wouldn’t choose to go anywhere. If I was Lawrence I would want to support my son the best I can. His performances would need to improve or become more consistent. But I’d do all I can to make my kid succeed over the company. I can start a new one, I have millions of dollars I only have one son.

While I agree with you, I would probably do the same for my kid if I was Lawrence. However at this point, its not only Lawrence's investments at stake. Aramco/Cognizant and other sponsors fund this team as well, and you need to represent your sponsors to the fullest and Lance simply cant. Its only going to get worse in 2026 with Honda coming in.

It’s what any father in Lawrence’s position would do. Lawrence is a terrifying businessman and people do what he wants. Most people in his position just throw money at the problem until they run out of money. He not only bought a massive entity(a formula one team), he also bought a luxury car company, one of the arguably greatest drivers ever to perform as a stop-gap/mentor for his son… TWICE(vettel/Alonso, Alonso being the GOAT candidate), then courted Honda back into the fold. He’s created the platform to provide his son an opportunity and has done what’s needed for lance’s ability. I personally don’t think lance will ever be champion, no matter what his father provides BUT… in the process, he’s providing incredibly well paying jobs for thousands, drama in F1(which runs on drama), new life into Aston Martin as a car manufacturer who, let’s face it was on their back foot, and the thing that every devoted dad wants for his son- the best opportunity to surpass himself possible. I don’t know of many people who can even drive an F1 car to its limits, let alone faster than Fernando F-ing Alonso(probably not his middle name) on occasion. I hated it at first too, as a fan of F1 for 30+ years. Then I looked at it objectively. When I did that, it was fascinating. This is the stuff movies are made of.
@ChristopherWoods
@ChristopherWoods Ай бұрын
This is a pretty fair and rational analysis. I know people I simrace with who would likely be faster than Stroll, he just gets a doting (hopefully?) father to enable his attempts at proving he can drive fast. It would be very interesting if a team did similar to what Nissan did and fielded a candidate selected from professional eSports on a rotating basis, if only the superlicence terms could be fulfilled more easily.

When Lance hot lapped the Aston LMP1 car, he had instant talent behind the wheel, setting an already competitive time. He is objectively a good driver, and like many of the great drivers of history, his skill lies outside the realm of open wheel racing. This tenure behind the wheel of the AMR F1 car is serving no purpose other than to *completely dismantle Lance Strolls reputation as a driver of any calibre.* If he genuinely wants a career where every man and his dog isn’t sniggering at him when he walks past then he needs to slap some sense into Lawrence and retire from F1.
@officialECS
@officialECS Ай бұрын
I dont think that a person uncapable of handling 4 wheels and an engine would make it to Formula 1, regardless of money and ownership. He has driving skills, but as you say, those skills are not best used in Formula 1. He should leave F1 and try and make a career in LMP or other categories. Marcus Ericsson is another example. Left a lot to be desired in F1, but smashes Indy Car. Stroll could probably do the same.

Never mix family and business. Ever. Even if you think you’re the most logical person on earth and the math makes sense, still don’t do it. It never works out. His dad made an emotional choice to pick him and now he’s making an emotional choice to keep him. Firing his son will be a double edged sword. Always pick the right person for the job based on skill, not blood.

For a backfield driver i feel like hes had a few world champ drivers so maybe theres some interesting data there. Despite that, its honestly just been a shame for aston the last few years, they could be doing a lot more on the track.

Stroll also lost the qualifying duel vs Sirotkin in 2018. He never once won a team duel cleanly (both qualifying, races and points) and lost all other team duels in terms of points at least. He is absolutely the most unsuccessul driver relative to the chances he has had. Most others with his performance were fired/not extended after 2 years at most (look at Mick Schumacher for example). Also Vettel was already burnt out at his AM time. He had one of the worst seasons any multiple times champion ever had in 2020 and came to AM as a broken man that cared more about environmental effects of F1 instead of being a hungry racer...

I cant remember his other podiums, but I still recall one of his podiums in Baku. He only got that podium because most of the top teams already DNF or crashed out (I think it was when Verstapen's car choose to blow a tire) So, on paper it might sound good that he has podiums. But looking at how thoes races had went, then you do question if it is worth the talk of what he has on paper. I mean, compared to like Magnussen when he just joined in F1. He did manage to score a podium on his first race for McLaren, and I dont recall if something crazy happened that race (Like top teams crashing out or DNFs) Magnuseen showed on his first race that he had potential for talent, just too bad rest of his rookie season didnt go well.

While Lance Stroll may be pulling up the rear of performance, he is still an F1 driver. 99.99% of the planet couldn't do a single lap at speed in F1. The old joke comes to mind: What do they call the med student who finishes last in his class? A Doctor. F1 needs a backfield and Stroll may as well be one of them. Not to mention, one's dad standing behind you is actually a pretty nice thing to see.
