deborah rabbit white-- It is a fact that the fruits of today contain many times more sugar than they did a thousand or even a few hundred years ago. Our ancestors did not get anywhere near the amount of fructose in their diet as people do today. The human body treats all sugars the same way, which is by an insulin response. Too much insulin too many times a day will wreck your health. Today's fruit has been genetically altered through selective breeding to contain much more sugar so people will be more prone to buy it. It is a myth that the body treats fructose differently, or that it is somehow safer.

Something really important that people who say they cannot quit sugar tend to forget: the more sugar you eat, the more you need for things to taste very sweet. My first boyfriend always drank several cans of energy drink per day and said that fruit doesn't taste sweet. I thankfully always hated energy drinks (if you open a can in the same room I am in, I become very nauseous), but I did eat al lot of processed foods with loads of sugar for a long period of time. This was also the time I didn't feel much for fruit. As I stopped eating so much sugary food, fruit started tasting more and more sweet. Such transitions can suck, but ultimately it is just a few weeks or months that are absolutely worth it. I think this is very similar to transitioning from omnivorous to vegan. I went slowly, just eating meat less and less often untill I went pretty much completely vegan. Near the end, meat started tasting so disappointing. My boyfriend is going through the same thing now, commenting on how weird it feels. He recently ate a wiener roll because he was really hungry and that was what friends had put on the table and he used to love those. He was surprised to find that he did not enjoy it at all. Tldr: humans are creatures of habit and so are our tongues. You get used to the flavours of things you eat regularly. Change what you eat and after a little while you will prefer the new thing over the old. If you give it time, you will start to like healthy stuff that you maybe did not like before

I cut out refined sugar completely and feel amazing! I eat lots of fruit every day and sweeten my food (like oatmeal) with dates all the time! There are more studies showing the negative effects on eating sugar and all "natural" sweeteners like agave and maple syrup. I highly recommend reading one of Dr. Fuhrman's books. He says that sugar and white flour are the two worst things to eat when it comes to health.

Oreos are loaded with fat. I'm more concerned with fat than I am sugar. Walter Kempner was reversing heart disease, life threatening high blood pressure (before medications for hypertension existed), diabetes, and diabetic blindness on his rice diet. The rice diet consists exclusively of process white rice, fruit, processed fruit juices, and processed sugar. I doubt he would have gotten such impressive results if processed sugar was replaced with oil.

Thanks for this! I’m glad you included dental issues. After having a root canal, I asked the dr what I could do to prevent more problems. He said it’s most likely refined sugar. Despite the fact that I am an avid brusher/flosser, this gave me the push to take it out. It’s funny because sometimes being refined sugar free, is more upsetting to others than veganism. Someone goes out of their way to find a vegan dessert and I cringe with the “well, I also don’t eat sugar” response and then they’re like, oh crap, really!? What do you eat!?

Hey Mike have you done a video on the effects of zero calorie sweetners? I have been hearing from a co-worker that stevia is not good for you because it causes you to release insulin like sugar (because of the sweet taste) and the insulin ends up binding to the sugar/glucose already in your blood so it lowers your blood sugar levels. With all of this he says "this can cause you to become insulin resistant over time." This is of course if you consume it daily for a very long time. What do you think?

Yes, I'm terrible about remembering sources, but I believe adding fluoride to water/toothpaste became a thing when it was discovered that a group of people's water supply had been found to contain a small (naturally occurring) amount of fluoride and coincidentally fewer cavities/tooth decay. Although that was the case we have since discovered that while small amounts of natural fluoride ingested and applied to the teeth can be safe and helpful, the amount currently used in tooth paste (absorbed in the mouth) and added to many of our water supply and ingested (some counties have voted on not adding it to their water supply), is harmful to the thyroid and can even cause tooth yellowing along with other adverse effects. I have hypothyroidism as well and have scoured heath books and the internet for years for any info I can get on the subject. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fpakd5qZl7iafas.html

In a pea size amount of toothpaste there is approx 0.3 mg of fluoride. In a large strip of toothpaste there is approx 2.25 mg of fluoride. In one litre of fluoridated drinking water we can find approx 1mg of fluoride(more than than a pea size amount of paste). Some people drink a small amount of fluoridated water a day, some people drink many litres and even swim in it, absorbing it through their skin and breath it in during a shower. This medicated water can also be sprayed on organic gardens and farmlands (they say “water cannot be organic”) which gets into the fruits and vegetables which are then shipped around the world to even non fluoridated areas; people then process them through their juicer or add even more fluoridated water and make Soups. The list is very long where this medication can be absorbed globally. So how can the correct dosage be administered? Especially when some people are sensitive or even allergic to it? Fluoride or Hexafluorosilicic acid also has an accumulative effect in the body. Therefore, we should all be informed and have a choice before systemically drinking other peoples topical medication, the topical medication of those people who simply eat allot of processed sugar and forget to brush their teeth before bedtime. But Fluoride is not even mentioned on the water bill, it is hidden because it is immoral and makes allot of money.

bee vomit [honey] is the worst sweetener. As a food for us honey is woefully mineral and vitamin deficient. hominids require infinitely more food factors than bees. While honey contains several very desirable sugars, these have been rendered toxic by the protective acids imparted to them by the bees. These acids are the bees’ preservatives. hominids do not have the enzymes to break these acids down, as have the bees, and must rob their bodies of vital base-forming minerals to neutralize the acids. When hominids eat honey, it immediately begins to reabsorb moisture from the stomach and stomach flora. It destroys our symbiotic bacterial population wholesale. Several tablespoons of honey makes most people very sick. In hominids honey, more so than cane and beet sugars, is acid-forming and decalcifying. The body draws calcium from its teeth and bones, if necessary, to neutralize the acids introduced and formed. Manite acid of honey is a protoplasmic poison. It interacts with protein and from this, forms alcohol, ammonia and carbonic acid. As eaten, honey is an atrocious food. It is usually added to starches and proteins as a sweetener. It readily ferments when held up in the stomach with other longer-digesting foods. The byproducts alcohol, ammonia and carbonic acid are deleterious to homind health. Honey is, therefore, neither a nutritious nor a safe food.”

If you want to cook with chocolate, you can control the sugar content by making your own with maple syrup (or the cheap flavoured kind like I do), cocoa & unrefined coconut oil. I thought the same but when you follow up on Mic’s points by looking at studies you start to see that, while his data and viewpoints on veganism, sugar in this case, and other topics are accurate, his bias against low carb is what throws his credibility off since the studies and research don’t support his claims. Literally just go to google scholar and follow up on intramyocellular lipids, or whether high LDL (bear in mind there are two types of LDL) causes atherosclerosis. I get it though, because on the other side a lot of low carb/carnivore pushers are a bit obnoxious / pushy with carbohydrates being bad - which is also untrue. So I can understand Mic perhaps trying to assure that (whole) carbohydrates aren’t bad, but trying to throw low carb diets under the bus is where he starts making mistakes and providing misinformation which is unfortunate.
