Hi Royal Opera House. I think it'd be really wonderful if you invited the staff of Freed of London to a free ballet performance at Covent Garden to watch their craft come to life on the dancers! I'm sure they would very much appreciate it. Beautiful video

I was reading a book that said is you are strong enough Pointe shoes don't hurt at all. I laughed and put a sticky note over that paragraph and said "lies". Pointe takes a lot of hard work. Even though you may have really strong feet and are ready for it, it will hurt, not that much, but it will
@emb3863
@emb3863 8 жыл бұрын
+Adelaide Lazarski It really depends on the person, I know people who's hurting real bad after just a little while, and people who can dance for a ridiculously long amount of time and don't feel a thing. But yeah, generally it hurts at least a little

Adelaide Lazarski that's not completely true. My feet were very strong but my core wasn't so I had to do another year of pre-pointe. I was told by a teacher that my feet were very strong. My shoes do not hurt a lot but they do hurt.

Pointe shoes are a huge part of a dancer's life, and the maker/dancer relationship is possibly the most important one in the field! What a fascinating look into a hidden aspect of ballet. It almost makes me miss being on pointe ... almost.

That’s amazing. I’ve been a figure skater for over 20 years and since I was 14 I’ve had custom made figure skates made to my exact foot modifications. The company who I always bought from sold their business and no longer makes figure skates. It’s not easy trusting anyone else with specific requests and requirements.

They showed how they were made. They just didn't go into detail. I like detail. I wanted to watch this because I wanted to be able to watch a performance with the knowledge that their toes don't dramatically hurt. The shoes are hardened and then softened to the point where they are still hard without the shoe clunking around on the floor by means of a liquid they apply to the shoe, right?
9 жыл бұрын
sorry to disappoint you but I reckon it hurts like hell, at least when you're learning

@gabrielletornow4857
@gabrielletornow4857 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry to have to break it to you, but it REALLY hurts, especially when you are just starting out. Foot care is extremely important. Your feet bleed, you get blisters, you form bunions, and more. Ice is extremely important on top of other things. I saw one video where a dancer had a plastic garbage can she filled with ice and stuck her legs in every night. As for the shoe, every dancer has their own method of prepping the shoes. Some put shellac, some tear the satin of the toe, some tear out part of the shank, and others shave down the bottom. Some dancers do all or none of this. There are all kinds of things that they do. Not only that, but they all have their own way of sewing on the elastic and ribbon.

There is so much competition in the dance world. Anyone who thinks it's not a sport and they aren't athletes has never taken a class, been at an audition, or watched a grand prix. Ballet is an art, of course, but also should be looked at with the same respect as a sport. They work twice as hard for a fraction of the pay and are still at risk of losing a career to age, weight (high or low), and injury.

I know Freed's system is unique to the company. I wish they would have shown a shoe being made from start to finish. I'm assuming the makers don't make the entire shoe as it looks like someone else is doing the final stitching to make it "pretty". I'd love to see more in-depth how the shoes are made!

Danuellia Quow I'm fourteen and I've been learning ballet for more then seven years Strong ankles are important when doing ballet on pointe. A beautiful ankle is an advantage but as long as you practice and build up your ankle, you can even surpass someone with beautiful ankles. According to my ballet teacher, learning to do ballet on pointe cannot be rushed. You might injure yourself if you rush, so going slow and steady is important. I just started to learn to do ballet on pointe a few months ago Good luck to you! ^¬^

Millie Fox I actually hate shopping for pointe shoes online. To get the fit you really want, you need to be there in person. One time, I bought a pair on amazon, and I could hardly fit half of my foot in the shoe. I bought the right size and brand I always wear (Bloch Balance European 5 XXXX) and I got a size 2 X.
