When it comes to sharing information about inspection or audit report publicly, Banks and their regulator, the Reserve Bank of India have often managed to slip free from the rules laid down in the RTI Act. Even to the extent of disobeying an order passed by the Supreme Court. Watch this week’s video as Sucheta Dalal discusses how RBI and banks continue to avoid transparency.

This seems to be a way too high expectation from us from a country where even PM care fund details are never made public in the name of confidentiality.

Its sad reality. I know how much I suffered when I applied for a educational loan. Some bank refused because my family was not looking capable to return the loan. People should be aware of this things. Because indirectly it's affecting the pocket of common people like me. One request if it's possible to make a video in hindi. Toh hindi me upload karo. In my opinion government should make different banks for big corporates. And transfer money from other banks to thase banks and publish publicly all transactions. So atleast all of us can know how much benifit we are getting by giving loan to big corporates.

I totally agree with you Sucheta ji. RBI doesn't ask for information like about borrowers like customers data, suppliers data etc.. they ask for information like pre sanction credit appraisal notes, due diligence reports etc.. the RBI then analyses the information provided by the bank and then observes if there are any deviations from guidelines of RBI or any policy of the bank.. and the information about these observations of the RBI is the right of every depositor and taxpayer. After all, now it has become the responsibility of the depositor to do credit appraisal of the bank to understand if his money is safe or not

Fundamentally zero accountability by Bankers and taken granted. Enforcement of law is applicable only to middle man or who has no contact with power centres. Knowledge about finance and accounting can only help Indian people come up and question the board members of Banks. Transparency is culture issue.

I have known the following in Indian banks : 1. Changing name on pass book 2. Changing name of the person renting locker 3. Designating a deposit as on lien when no loan has been taken. It will not be surprising if money is transferred/withdrawn without the account holders knowledge. People should check at least once a month.

Hello ML team, what happened toa related issue, where Mr. Subramaniam swamy has filed a petition in court to direct CBI for investigation on RBI offifials. Unless few RBI officials are made to answer their misdeeds, RBI will continue to operate in opaque manner. That petition should be pursued vigorously. Root cause of all banking fraud and problem is Non accountability of RBI to general public.

In practice, Internal Inspection Reports are only Prescriptive to the employees and Officers. And trust me the brief period of time given for Audit makes it difficult to properly check some of the things.

Kotak charged me for IMPS transaction of 1st June today at Rs. 5.90. it did not say any thing about transaction charges when I made it. Pvt Banks wants to loot people. Govt banks with young employees is really good banking. Every Pvt Banks is a headache. Calls U 10 times, always selling what you don't need.

Banks are special! Bank Examiners should write their report for the banks and their management. Neither for journalists & nor for public. Let the work continue with utmost independence. My humble view is that Bank Examiners world over, may not write what they write if they are made answerable to outsiders. Please allow whatever RBI fellows write and support them. Curiosity kills cat! Banks are special. Period

If all printed/created money enters the economy through bonds and bank loans which demands the receiver to repay said bond or loan with an extra interest, where will the extra interest come from? Even if the Interest is paid from earlier printed/created money, won't there always be an exponential growth in deficit because of interest?

The Bank's are allowed to manipulate, falsify in every possible way and the legal system are biased supporting them. This blind support would only take Indian entrepreneurship from bad to worst.

These are the reasons that new generation investors and millions others all over the world are so attracted to crypto investments, where there is absolute freedom in transactions. ( Provided) to if someone is an expert in crypto investments. A sort of ' my money my comfort' kinda mindset 🙂 . Thanks 'Moneylife' to make us aware atleast about various financial pressing issues, we face day in and day out as customers, investors and tax payers. 🙏🙏
