But due to the constitutional changes adopted in 1996 by President Alexander Lukashenko, the country has effectively not being a democracy ever since. For more than 26 years, one person has been ruling the country with tight control over media, economy and the manipulated elections that take place in the country. I tell you the story of the democratic uprising happening in the country today after its latest elections on 9th August 2020

System was very inefficient and lengthy and corrupt bureaucracy made anything very slow to implement. If Gorbachev ordered his military to crush Hungary's revolution, he would have got some time to implement his Perestroika and Glasnost reforms.

Funny thing is that Belarusians are used to it, it never had a state of its own (other than that brief time before 1920 when they were 'free' but they were basically a puppet of the Bolsheviks) in its entire history it only had a single free and fair election and they were ruled by the Mongols, Kievan Rus, Moscovy, Lithuania, Poland, Russians, Germans etc for centuries
