As a Siberian I'd like to note, that the worst issue is not the average temperature per se, but the rapid jumps from extreme cold to extreme hot and back.

This is why so many Ukrainians live in Canada. It is one of the paradoxes of human nature. One goes through an enormous effort to move in search of better life only to settle in a place that looks exactly like the one he left. You can also think about Scandinavians in Minnesota. One would image they should all settle in Florida, but no, that would be intolerably different from Norway.

Thanks for the info. Having grown up near Regina, I laugh when I hear Americans from what we consider milder climate cities talk about the cold, too! I realize your comparison was only to do with temperatures and not other factors like humidity or wind. but as you're probably aware, both of those can make things so much worse! On the prairies in Canada, for example, the wind is a huge factor, while humidity can be a big factor in places like Toronto and further east into Canada's maritime provinces. Keep the videos coming. It is so great to see how much we have in common.

In my experience the worst temperature is -20-35 with wind because when it's below -35 there is usually none and tempratures lower than that kinda feels the same. Same thing in the middle and eastern part of North America. Depending on the jet stream the Russian like temperatures can dip down into the heart on the USA granted it does normally stay as cold in these areas for very long but many places in very low latitudes in the USA have seen temperatures above -30 Fahrenheit. So when someone from New York says they know cold cause they are from New York City technically they do because the temps can drop very quickly but don’t usually stay like that for very long.

The winter temps was coldest of -20 Fahrenheit with the wind chill making it feel like -60 Fahrenheit. But the average temps are between 10 degrees to -5 degrees Fahrenheit. The summers in northern Minnesota is totally different then the winters. The summer doesn't last long but can reach in the 90s to 95 degree Fahrenheit. I live half the year in Vancouver and i wouldn't say it is similar to Boston. It rarely snows in Vancouver and temps are usually over 5C in winter, and the summers are cool because BC is West of the Rockies, which imprison the warmer weather and humidity from the Pacific Ocean. BC is literally a rain forest, whereas Boston gets winters with snow, and fairly warm summers. But definitely a cool and original video idea! 💜

I really enjoyed the comparison among the towns. I lived in Quebec city and it is f...ng cold. However I am from Chicago and here normally in the first week of January we reach temps around 40 below zero. (forty below is the same in both scales) and in Quebec city I don't think they go that low. Still I'd love to check what is cold for your coldest city one of these years.

Hi! I loved your video but do you know where Norilsk and Dudinka would be located in North America, by temperature? I don’t live in these two places but are fascinated by them both.

Would you do the comparison in latitude? St Petersburg and Moscow feel much colder than Ottawa due to the latitude and artic winds. US and Canada always consider the wind-chill factor. It can b x temperature but feels like y.

Thank you for your nteresting and informative video. I was hoping that you would show all the Russian cities mentioned on a map of Russia as well. Most non-Russian viewers would not know where your cities are located.

Russia is definitely beautiful country. In one of your videos you mentioned about your trip to US with you parents, did you post that video? I am in wow by your English and you accent! How did you manage to have such a nice accent? Did you live in the US for many years?

Interestingly I spent a few weeks in summer in Moncton, Canada (once in a time in my life :-) ) and living in Europe Canada has always been a mythical cold place in my mind. I had during my whole stay over 30 degrees Celcius!! But then again I also visited Montreal in winter and at that time it was -26 degrees Celcius :-)

this video was intresting. but remember that this was only comparing the annual temperature. like the city yakutks, in summer there is 30-40 degrees and in winter 50-70. Those are pretty common, not once in 100 years. Cant recall similar place in north america. the annual tempereture doesnt tell much abt the climate. a place with summers +5 and winter -5 and +30 and -30 would both have the annual temperatu of 0. im frn finland and i find it funny too that newyorkers think that they have a harsh climate.

Interesting video. My home town of Shellharbour in Australia has almost identical temperatures to San Diego, California, seasons reversed of course, but much more rain. The comparison between Oymyakon and the Canada town works on average yearly temperature, but the surprising fact would be that Oymyakon has a warmer summer.
@RussianPlus

I agree it was not a very accurate comparison. But more of less gives you the picture . BTW it is -46C in Oymyakon today.

you compare cities by average temperature but not by average high, average low, etc. In some comparisons, in one city the summers are much hotter and winters much colder than the city you're comparing it to, but since these seasons even out, have the same average annual temperature.
