This is why so many Ukrainians live in Canada. It is one of the paradoxes of human nature. One goes through an enormous effort to move in search of better life only to settle in a place that looks exactly like the one he left. You can also think about Scandinavians in Minnesota. One would image they should all settle in Florida, but no, that would be intolerably different from Norway.

Thanks for the info. Having grown up near Regina, I laugh when I hear Americans from what we consider milder climate cities talk about the cold, too! I realize your comparison was only to do with temperatures and not other factors like humidity or wind. but as you're probably aware, both of those can make things so much worse! On the prairies in Canada, for example, the wind is a huge factor, while humidity can be a big factor in places like Toronto and further east into Canada's maritime provinces. Keep the videos coming. It is so great to see how much we have in common.

Same thing in the middle and eastern part of North America. Depending on the jet stream the Russian like temperatures can dip down into the heart on the USA granted it does normally stay as cold in these areas for very long but many places in very low latitudes in the USA have seen temperatures above -30 Fahrenheit. So when someone from New York says they know cold cause they are from New York City technically they do because the temps can drop very quickly but don’t usually stay like that for very long.

Interesting video. My home town of Shellharbour in Australia has almost identical temperatures to San Diego, California, seasons reversed of course, but much more rain. The comparison between Oymyakon and the Canada town works on average yearly temperature, but the surprising fact would be that Oymyakon has a warmer summer.

I agree it was not a very accurate comparison. But more of less gives you the picture . BTW it is -46C in Oymyakon today.

@@RussianPlus I am 64 and coldest it has been in my yard at home is 4C on frosty morning (frosty elsewhere). Every decade or so the temperature sometimes does not reach 10C during the day and it brings out all the ice age predictions.lol

It's minus 14 Celsius in Moscow now and it's considered very cold, usually temperature in January is about minus 3-7 degrees Celsius.

you compare cities by average temperature but not by average high, average low, etc. In some comparisons, in one city the summers are much hotter and winters much colder than the city you're comparing it to, but since these seasons even out, have the same average annual temperature.

Fucking global warming! We, in the Chernozemie region of Russia, do not see a worthwhile Winter! Every day about 0 degrees .. At night -3, in the afternoon +3 ... Give us back the real Russian Winter !. We want frost! :)
