I wished I knew that earlier: it took me more than 25 years to understand how to manage colour in my photos. But ultimately, considering colour led to a huge elevation in my fine art photography.

Hi Darren, it is just an option and we should see colour theories just as what they are: theories. But I just can say, it is interesting to consider colour in my fine art photography :) Thanks a lot for watching and nice greetings from the mountains, Christian

Very informative video, Christian. Let's see if I can be more aware of the colour theory when out creating images!

Hi Ian, thanks a lot, my friend. Just observe the colours out in nature to understand how they can get part of your composition. I hope you'll enjoy it :) Have a great Sunday and nice greetings, Christian

Another great vlog. A great landscape photographer once said: ".... black and white is easy, colors are difficult very difficult..." in addition to composition this is another important element of a great image. Often struggling myself during post processing. Thank you for uploading this content.

Hi Gabor, to be honest, I do so hard to compare the difficulties between black&white and colour photography. They have both their own challenging side, I would say. But also their enjoying one :) Thanks a lot for watching, my friend. Nice greetings, Christian

Another great video Christian. Besides determining the best composition and getting the image nice and sharp, I really never thought much about colour until I looked at the image into Lightroom, but from the way that you describe it, colour is also something that you consider, right on location when you are determining your composition.

Hi Mark, thank you so much, my friend :) Yes, right. Considering colours already out on location made really a big difference for me. It is also a bit comparable to seeing lines, shapes an patterns out in the field. Different colours also lead to different visual weights in a composition. It really helps to consider them. Nice greetings, Christian

I tried watching your video differently for the first time Christian. I watched on my large TV and I have say it gives your images a whole new dimension looking at them on a large screen. You used some awesome images to explain the colours. As you say colour can help convey the story of the images and can say so much about the mood, atmosphere or location you're photographing. Thanks for sharing the video and hope you have a great weekend 👍

Hi Adrian, thank you so much :) This is something I find generally interesting: the image size has a big impact on how the image affects the viewer. I know that my images tend to work better on big size, prints in A3, A2, and even bigger, as it makes all the details appear in the compositions. Great to hear that you liked them in big :) Have a great weekend, Christian

Nice videos. Its funny to see that there is logic behind all of these colours. I always do what feels best but if I look at my images somehow I end up with logical colours most of the times if I look at your colour wheel. Realy liked the inside here 🙂 grt guido

Thank you, good information on to improve myself in Landscape photo. How important is Goethe Theory of Colours? I have the book but I have not read it yet.

Hi Thomas, everything we know today about colour psychology in art is based on Goethe's Theory of Colours, actually. So, it's definitely worth reading the book :) Thanks a lot for watching and enjoy your Sunday, Christian

@@christian.irmler First I want to thank you, You have awakened my desire to photograph forests again, I probably don't have the same orientation as you do with skaoping beautiful pictures. I am more focused on conveying feelings and ideas.Second, how do you avoid the need to waste time getting better gear? I have had a break in purchases until a few years ago when my camera D300 12 Mpix broke so now I am only trying to upgrade the bare essentials to D850 45 Mpix standard but I am sensitive to Pixel Peeper videos.Thirdly, if you decide to release a PS video, I would be grateful if you could describe whether you use white point, medium gray or black points in your PS process. I'm going through the basics again in PS and have the assumption that I may have missed something important.

Not long after I watched your video about the role of colors and choosing them, I ran across this video about Ernst Haas kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pK14fbuI173DYo0.html. Haas was one of the first photographers to use color in street photography. In these Haas images you can see at work the same attention to color that you outlined in your video. I think it shows the importance of the concepts for all genres of photography. Haas after all was considered a master of color and your points explain why.

Hi Erich, yes colour is definitely important for all genres of photography unless photographing black and white, and it has definitely the most effect on fine art photography. Fine art photorgaphy is not only to find in landscape photography, but can be achieved also in every other genre. Thanks a lot for the link! Ernst Haas was a good photographer. His roots were also in Austria, by the way :) Nice greetings, Christian
