Need to get Mathew Vaughn or the guy who directed Top Gunn Maverick. Bring back the hopeful and inspirational Superman who battles big threats, but still has time to rescue a cat from a tree.

The notion of adapting "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way? and Peace on Earth" really appeals to me; it would make for an amazing follow-up.

Brainiac being the iconic adversary for superman throughout my childhood, it's always been weird he's never been in a movie. I think part is just the trap all superhero movies fall in, particularly first ones, is having an evil mirror as the antagonist to meet the lead on the same level and go blow for blow, instead of being a foil.

I think a personal story is in order that really shows the importance of Superman as a man above our jaded ties to reality. He’s a champion of the oppressed show him be a character that deals with social issues. You can’t make a mediocre film it has to be great to truly show Superman is still relevant to a general audience

Whatever this upcoming film will be either a sequel or a reboot (like what James Gunn did with the Suicide Squad), this film has stay true to what Superman truly stands for and be something that fans old and new will definitely enjoy watching.

Something I wish the dcu actually capitalized on is that Henry Cavill is actually a stellar actor. They make him play such a limited range of emotions, but he could definitely be a good Supes if they gave him the right direction

For the Man who has Everything is an incredible story. But a movie version would require half the film (if not more), take place in the Black Mercy's dream world and that's not what people want to see. However, Truth, Justice and The American Way could certainly work. But it's high time for Braniac. If they don't use him in MoS 2, then they need to build him up for the 3rd movie. Johns' Brainiac story from the late 2000's would be the perfect template to use. Superman For Tomorrow was based on it and that was one of the best Superman animated features ever. Oh, and the first Superman•Shazam crossover was Bronze Age, not Silver. Great video as always, Owen.

Instead of MoS 2, I would prefer they changed the title to Superman: (insert sub title), making it both a sequel but also a soft reboot in the franchise, much like the James Gunn Suicide Squad. As for the plot, I would love to see film focusing on Superman in Metropolis, with him fighting against Metallo. In this version, Metallo origin could take some inspiration from sci-fy shows like Robocop, with John Corben being a soldier who was turned into cyborg by Amanda Waller, trying to create her own group of super mercenary (like she did with Suicide Squad) to take down heroes like Superman, if he ever turn against humanity. However, he escape and, as he start to recover his memories, he decides to take revenge against Waller for turning him into robot, putting him in conflict with Superman. Waller presence would not only tie this film with Black Adam but also could create a ideological conflict between the character: While Waller would try to come up with plan to kill Metallo, Superman would be against, beliving he can defeat John without killing him.

After seeing how Gunn handled closing the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel, I'm super hyped for his version of Superman.

I’d say borrow inspiration from Superman & Lois. Season 1 was essentially the Man of Steel story with a more optimistic Superman. And a more interesting twist with the Tal-Rho dynamic.

I would be open the idea of *Last Son of Krypton (the Zod Jr arc)* and *Rebirths' (Superdad) arc* getting blended for the big screen. So that way we don't have to cram a time skip for Jon Kent to be the right age, see the Superman as a father, and have tension as it is the son of Zod.

So the actual story could be a number of things, as this video shows. But I think the movie needs to start with Lois interviewing superman. Either use the interview to firmly separate the story from the previous timeline, or use it to have superman admit his wrongs in past movies and promise to always put lives first. Maybe give him a line about how after dying once himself, he now believes more than ever that life is a gift to be protected.

I'd like to see a new film take inspiration from Morrison's non All-Star work, particularly his New 52 Action Comics and Superman and the Authority: they're both great modern portrayal of Superman's champion of the people status, something Morrison themselves admitted they found interesting about BvS. However, I fear WB isn't willing to take a risk on stories not universally loved by fans. The only thing I really want is a movie that's not ashamed of Cavill's prior films: I don't expect or even want every line to be a reference to Snyder's work, but I really don't want a Rise of Skywalker situation where they're constantly apologizing for every little thing fans didn't like. What Shazam did (a few props mentioning Clark's fights with Zod and Lex) is just enough for me.

The Man Of Tomorrow comics from the 90's, Superman For All Seasons, Smallvile Superman, & Superman: Up In The Sky, would be perfect comics to adapt for a Superman movie.

I think they would add Jon Kent (Superman's son) to the universe so we can see Superman dealing with the challenge of fatherhood while Jon start developing the same abilities as his dad where Clark now dealing with his son developing powers while battling an new foe that threaten Metropolis (so Lex Luthor does not get reused for the upteen time!) and that villain could be Brainiac of the Ultra-Humanite (the guy was Superman's very first supervillain and arch-enemy before Lex Luthor were even published way back in the 1940s).

I feel like Up In The Sky would be absolutely amazing for introducing people to the character. Ppl need to see, what Superman is capable off and what he is ready to sacrifice for just one person. Not a person he knows or he's close to, but any person. They need to see no matter what, he'd come travelling through a whole universe, risking all he has, just to safe maybe even you or me. Ppl need to see, no matter how hopeless the situation seems, there is still hope with character and in the world he's a part of. Up In The Sky is perfect to set the status quo and makes clear to everybody, who he is and what he stands for. Only important thing will be, to stay close to the source material.

I always thought that more superhero movies set during Christmas would be awesome so Peace on Earth is definitely up there for an adaptation

for some reason i have this image in my head, as the opening, that could in one scene, destroy the entire notion of a "dark" superman open it with a big climactic battle and hes seemingly getting beaten, cut to a far away place and there is a crowd of people screaming at a guy to not jump, cut back to the fight, you call tell superman heard that, so he stops holding back, beats the enemy in a few seconds, speeds off to grab them, and deliver them safely to the ground, without major injury, then he says something nice to the cops, and speeds off to talk to the guy, and try to save his life. which he succeeds in doing, by just talking to him, and listening to him, maybe even have him divulge a bit of his childhood to him to make him realize that hes not alone, only to fly away to save the world from another crisis, without anyone on the ground ever seeing him, because hes not doing it for the attention, or the fame, but out of genuine care for the people he shares a planet with.

As a subplot, the story of the day Superman couldn't save would also be a good choice . Taken from the bronze age of action comics, Superman was haunted by the souls of disaster victims who he was unable to save for making a choice to save other lives threatened at the same time, thus doubting himself for not being able to be in two places at once.

I think a Kingdom Come style story where Clark rediscovers his love for humanity after Lois Lanes death. In a pessimistic world that hates him he shows Metropolis how they can help each other to a better tomorrow. Helping out his cousin Kara to control her powers and to get her anxiety of humans away.

They need to prioritise another Superman movie! James Gunn did say Superman is a high priority which is great.

Bringing back Superman is really all about setting up the moment in Kingdom Come where Batson hits Superman with his Shazam lightning, but we'll see it between Black Adam and Superman instead.

I would prefer an adaptation of "Up, Up and away", where superman's mission would be to save one little girl taken across the cosmos and go on a herculean adventure and introduce new spacefaring aliens across the DC universe while giving him the biggest challenges. Or, if they want a saga, do an adaptation of the recent "Warworld saga" by Phillip Kennedy Johnson. Not only would it expand on the kryptonian lore and do more insane world building, but it would give superman an insanely bigger challenge where he is depowered, on a strange world and has to save people not only from the iron grip of the monster that is Mongul but also from their own idea of what true strength is.

honestly i think an up in the sky adaptation that explicitly takes place between the post credits scene of shazam and his cameo at the end of peacemaker would be great, to tell that amazing story and also be sort of a wink and nod like just because you didnt see him during this time doesnt mean he wasnt superman kinda thing

To be honest, I'm not just thinking in terms of just the next movie. I'm thinking of a whole roadmap. The next MoS should be a solid popcorn flick. Introduce Brainiac and feature some great sci-fi action. Not saying it should be slavishly following Johns' book, but take some inspiration from it. Next will should be based off of What's so Funny about Truth, Justice and the American Way. Take all those themes in the book and explain why the world needs a character like Superman. They could address the criticisms so many people had about the dreary Superman in MoS and show him as growing into the icon. Then adapt Superman Rebirth and introduce Jon. Have the big showdown between Superman and Lex (who will be a figure lurking in the background of all previous movies) inspired by their fight in All-Star Superman.

Nice video. I’m not sure about bringing Snyder back though. Henry has been talking about wanting a Superman that is more joyful and optimistic, and I don’t think that Zack is the guy to do that. Also, you had mentioned that the Kents had moved back to Smallville during Rebirth. As I recall, they had actually moved to a place called Hamilton County, which happened to have a similar small farming town atmosphere to it, like that of Smallville. All in all though, good video. Great video. All good picks. Considering we last left Superman returning from the dead, there’s certainly an easy jumping off point for awe and wonder. Though personally I don’t feel beholden to the Zack Synder trilogy. I’d love to see a period piece, like Tom DeHaven’s “It’s Superman.” That would be a unique setting for a new trilogy.

Superman vs Metallo is what I’ve been waiting for.

Adapt any Superman story with a Superman who closely resembles his classic comic book personna, and don't let Zack Snyder anywhere near it. That's it.

The next Superman film needs to show us why he is loved by the public. The only appearances we have he destroyed metropolis in a fight with aliens. Then he is seen in the destruction of the capital building. Then when resurrected he is seen beating up the justice league with no regard for the collateral damage…again. So something that shows him as a hero is necessary.

I honestly would really love Superman rebirth with my Clark and Lois lane teaching there son Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self to be adapted for man of steel 2 because that would be really awesome and badass and tons of fun to see my favorite character on the big screen.

(As a side-note, I'd also be very interested to see an adaptation of the story you showed a panel of from 19.04 to 19.10, namely Superman: Secret Identity by Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen; in which a boy called Clark Kent who lives a world which in which Superman already exists as a fictional character suddenly develops the Man of Steel's powers out of the blue, and follows him throughout his life as he tries, in essence, to live up to the myth in his own unique way - it might not work as a Man of Steel sequel per se, but it might work as a stand-alone examination of the Superman character a la the Joker movie, yes...?)

personally i'm hoping that the james gunn dcu has their "young superman" that theyve stated theyre interested in creating be jon, and cavill reprises his role as clark, but takes a backseat to being a father to the new generation. it'd be a great way to have the actor who is clearly very passionate about his role and looks fucking PERFECT for it come back and still play clark, while still fulfilling a more fresh take on dc's mythology.

I hope they get it right. I'm a dc fan and I would love to see DC really get it right . A proper Justice league or Green lantern would be very satisfying.

The problem with continuing from Man of Steel onward is that BvS wrote Superman into such a corner it was as if they were actively trying to _not_ make future Superman movies. Jimmy Olsen? Dead. Lex Luthor? Sucks. Fortress of Solitude? Neither a fortress nor in solitude. Daily Planet? Basically TMZ. Life as Clark Kent? Dude had an open-casket funeral _and_ an obituary. I'm not saying these issues can't be worked around, but I certainly don't envy the writer/director team(s) who have to do the legwork.

This is great. What the world needs right now is a good, funny, and very inspirational Superman, not those cringe, boring, and worthless nihilistic satire versions of him. After all, superheroes only exist to inspire people to bring the good and best versions of their selves.

I think the best way to take a cinematic Superman in the right direction is a loose adaption of Miracle Monday by Elliot S! Maggin.

I feel the franchise should be given to a team (directors choice) and director that has at least a two movie plan and even a few crossovers in mind but after that i would like to be surprised, not the comics shot for shot but something similar.

While Directors and Screenwriters have their own creative visions for movies, I also think that the next director and screenwriter to the next Superman film needs to keep in mind of the character and the world that he inhabits in. I mean Man of Steel and Batman v Superman were controversial with how they took Superman into a much DARKER place. The next films needs to not only lighten the tone of the film, Find a balance between one's creativity and the character's history, but also and this is very Important: RESPECTS THE HISTORY OF THE CHARACTER and its supporting cast.

I honestly never had a problem with Henry Cavill himself being Superman. He just needed to be allowed to be Superman, which he hasn't been allowed to do in any of Zack Snyder's films, especially in the Snyder cut of justice league. I am convinced that Zack Snyder is the wrong director for Superman because he just doesn't understand the character. Henry Cavill on the other hand has shown an understanding of Superman, and has been shown being able to portray Superman in the theatrical cut of justice league, ironically enough. I am indifferent about Henry Cavill returning as Superman, but if he's actually allowed to be Superman, I am okay with it. If man of steel 2 can allow Henry Cavill to just be Superman, I would be okay with it. Just let Superman be Superman.

I think that for the next Superman movie, existing DCEU canon should be respected in the sense of not contradicting any of it; but none of it should be referenced. you should be able to go straight from Man of Steel to Man of Steel 2 without watching anything else and not feel like you’re missing anything.

Superman Up in the Sky would be a fanstastic story to adapt! Plenty of flahsy set pieces and with an easy to follow story which works well for movies. I think the problem with some of these stories is that they can be told well as comic books but as movies they may not work as well.

MOS2 should feel like a continuation and extension of the characters arc thus far. It shouldn’t look and feel tonally different from MOS, otherwise it’ll be jarring. So yes them wanting to take the character down a more hopefully route makes sense and should feel organic, their track record of highly saturated films filled with jokes and absent depth would not. In my opinion.

The giant Superman/Captain Marvel comic was so epic. And a much better payoff than the JLA Crisis on Earth-S blink and you mix it "fight" or even the pseudo-fight with Captain Thunder (awesome time to be a kid). But my favorite was the All-Star Squadron one, with a nazi-controlled 1940's Captain Marvel and Superman (Earth-Two) building up to finally a true fist fight over London. No idea what came since '86, but for several generations of superhero fans its the biggest fight debate ever. But, as cool as it'd be, I hope it would be a seperate movie from the upcoming S2; Supes is an icon that I think really deserves a movie to himself showcasing what he truly represents (which I just don't think the recent live action appearances have actually portrayed well). It's something MCU, to my surprise, got extremely on-point with Cap/Steve Rogers.

I think a mix, "What's funny about Truth, Justice, and the American way?", and, "Peace on Earth", would be the best adaptation. To show a Clark that is more altruistic and has villains that question what Superman stands for is the right way to go. Snyder's Superman has so much cynicism that we have to reestablish what Clark stands for. And then once that is established it'll make more sense for Superman vs Black Adam because they'll have clearly defined ideologies.

As for who should direct the next Superman film. First off don't let Snyder anywhere near it. He's not cut out for making superhero films. It's just not his genre. You need a fun action director with a good sense of humor to pull this off. Christopher McQuarrie would be a great choice. Chris Columbus even, I know people give him crap for not being an "auteur" but who cares? He gave us two great Harry Potter films and Home Alone. Even bring back Robert Zemeckis, he gave us Back to the Future which is exactly what this film needs to be, fun action with a heartfelt story at the center of it. But for me the best choice would be Steven Spielberg, I think he's long overdue for his shot at a Superhero film and he would knock it right out of the park with a visually amazing and fun story.

MOS came out in 2013, which means by the time we get the sequel it will have been over a decade. I don’t think having his film be a coming of age story for Shazam (with Adam thrown in for good measure) is the best approach. Supergirl would be great however, as she’ll potentially be planted within the universe following The Flash. Clark guiding and offering support to his cousin in this world, and potentially teaming up at the tail end of the film to take on one or more of his foes would be a lot more enjoyable. Kara is possibly going to be an outside to a new universe, much like Clark has always been an outside to the world. They can do a lot with that. In my opinion they need to do a few things to make a successful Superman 2. 1) Recast Lois, Amy Adams just doesn't work in the role and has no chemistry with Cavill either as a romantic pairing or just on screen period. She always looks bored with the role and I think it would be a good way to step away from the Snyder mess going forward. 2) Have Superman fight a villain who's never been in the movies before. Now I know everyone thinks they want Brainiac, but he deserves more build up. Have him mentioned in this film or have his origin shown in this film and then bring him in the next one or save him for a Justice League movie. So I would either go with Mongul or Intergang with Parasite or Lobo acting as their hired gun against Supes. A lot of people tell me they want Eradicator because he was done so well on the TV show but they basically already did his kind of story with Zod in the first film. 3) Make Superman happy again. There's a reason Christopher Reeve's take on the character is still beloved even today. Superman isn't supposed to be a reflection of our times, he's suppose to inspire us to hope and kindness and that needs to be brought back into the movie.

As much as I love to see Superman vs Msnchester Black, we already have the Superman vs Elite animated film. I rather they just start from scratch after Flash point. A new universe with a new Superman. A Superman who is optimistic, Compassionate and kind. Not whatever Zavk Synder created in Man of steel. Instead of the Elite, why not have Superman be abducted by mongul and forced to fight on war World. The film could explore how both Superman and Mongol are the last of their respective races, and how both were raised into the men they became. Superman's compassion vs Mongul's Cruelty would make for a compelling story.

I was actually introduced to the character of Braniac through the villain's distant relative, the character who appears in the CW show Supergirl. His first season as a main cast member is one of the best seasons of any Arrowverse show out there (Season 4), and I NEED a live action version of the real deal (who I am now much better acquainted with)

I really think Chris Macquarie is the guy to direct the next Superman. Ethan hunt isn't far from the kind of man Superman is. And his morality is tested further and further in the face of modern threats. Chris is already making Superman movies in his own way.
