"Peggy Sue" achieved the only true acclaim and mainstream success of that very dark decade for him....and it was because he was at his lowest point at that moment in time, forcing him into a previously unbeknowst modesty of status, power, and position. Ironically enough, the film's acclaim at that time in 1986 rested on the performances exclusively, (sans his nephew Mr. Cage) rather than Coppola's grand directorial legacy and name-above-the-title superstardom. And even more ironically, it immediately restored that tarnished legacy and briefly restored that vaunted status through him being critically percieved as a humbled and newly reborn "actor's director" rather than a magnum opus fabulist of massive and epic "grand visions", the very thing that just killed "Megalopolis" and that vaunted legacy all over again.

Very true about the impact of "Peggy Sue". As for "Megalopolis", I'm waiting for a screening before having an opinion

@@vinylncelluloidRe: "Megalopolis" Consesus reviews so far amount to basically a terrible and even embarrassing failure, where the performances are shockingly bad and all over the place, where the ambition to make a final epic masterpiece and swan song sinks in the wake of an utterly spent and throughly disconnected filmmaker. Vanity Fair and The Guardian went so far as to call it an unmitigated disaster.
