Knowing that they had no script for Iron Man and had to make it up as they went along, there is no way that that film should be as tight as it is. Just a small detail that I didn't even notice first time I watched it is when Pepper Potts is searching for the new suit that Obadiah Stane has had built, she finds Mk1 first, saying that it isn't very impressive. That is a great little detail that you normally see in a script that has gone through countless revisions. It also looks great considering how much older hardware and software was compared to most Marvel movies. I still think it's the best Marvel movie.

Amen! A few years before this movie came out, a small group of close friends and I found ourselves suddenly single at the same time, for no particularly similar reason. We were all between 21 and 24 years old and had steady girlfriends since before we were legal drinking age. The timing was uncanny, and we spent a few years partying together around San Diego, going to the same bars and pool halls and hangouts, mostly places that had local live music. We got to know all the doormen, bartenders, regulars, and made friends with some of the bands. When Swingers came out, one of the guys called and said, "Dude, you gotta go see this movie... it's gonna feel really familiar". Your comment about young adult male friendship was spot on.

what's wild is that it is so timeless, despite being completely of its time and place. it takes place during that little swing revival in the 90's and revolves around actors of a certain age and disposition you could really only find in LA., plus that cruising with your posse attitude is almost a cultural relic. it comes off as a period piece full of quirks, but the situations and characters are so weirdly relatable that it's a complete blast.

This movie came out when I was the same age as these guys and it HIT HARD. I never noticed it in the cinema, or it wasn't played in my area because at the time I was dabbling in acting in TX, but I saw it in the video store. I watched it, then bought it, then made all my friends watch it. We quoted this movie for a decade!!! This is one of those great films that catches the vibe of a generation. @@sandspar LOL, not so good. I did play the title character in an indy film that got shopped around at festivals, but didn't get picked up by any major studios. I had a very tiny uncredited part in another film. I auditioned for Ed Norton's breakout role in Primal Fear, obviously didn't get it, but my best friend was called in for day 2 screen testing with the dozen finalist. That was cool. I worked behind the scenes for a while as well, just trying to get my face known to folks. I realized I didn't have the all or nothing mentality you need for that path and moved on.

I was hanging out with some friends recently and someone challenged us all to name an "instant classic." Song, book, movie, whatever - it just had to be the sort of artwork that is broadly recognized, from one's initial encounter with it, as having timeless brilliance. I named "Swingers" and essentially shut down the conversation because, from that point on, we were all just firing off quotes and our favorite scenes and stuff.

I had never seen anything like it when it came out, and after watching it again recently it’s still just as good as I remembered. Really enjoyed the video. Probably should’ve kept Favreau as the thumbnail though as the video is about him not Vaughn.

When this was new to video I sat down to watch it and almost turned it off, because I anticipated it going much darker during the scene with the girls in the trailer. I'm so glad I stuck with it.

I saw Swingers for the first time in 1999 when I was 14 and it inspired me to go to film school.

Swingers and Go were favorites of mine back in the day. They both had that low budget feeling with good writing

The 90's will always hold a special place in my heart if for nothing more than all the wonderful independent films that came out then, and Swingers and Made will be two of those films I will always enjoy rewatching from that era.

Swingers has got to be the most underrated buddies "going out" movie in history of cinema.
