Not only Sylvanas is centuries older and more experienced than Saurfang, she clearly have been working on her magic ever since she broke free from the Scourge and now she is an agent of Death, not N'zoth. She says it herself "He too will serve Death in the end". And the spell she casts looks a lot like a shadowbolt as it is described to be "incendiary energy" Also I want to remind people that in Legion when we fight Gul'dan he says "Death will inherit this world and she will be waiting"

i think you misunderstood some things about her and N'zoth. She never said she's an ally to him, she merely struck a bargain with Azshara to lure the horde and the alliance to her palace. Her goal was to feed as many souls to Death as possible and as she said it she is planning to subdue N'zoth as well and make him serve Death.

i think the duel between Sylvanas and Malfurion was way closer than most people will grade/creddit Sylvanas for. first we cant / should go by the ingame depiciton since it leaves allot out. (it was ~70 Malfurion vs 30% Sylvanas in terms of life) the canon depiciton in "a good war" (canon at the moment, may change) shows very little of the last fight. "last" fight since she fought Malfurion multiple times and (at least) hold her ground until reinforcement came. for example when lorash tried to kill Malfurion who fought Sylvanas at the time and where he got one-shotted (died at page 51/90) and at a later time in clash between Malfurion and the horde in astranaar where he one-shotted Saurfang but was driven back by Sylvanas. (arroung 60/90) meaning that she faught Malfurion at least 3 times and managed to drive him off twice. in the last fight she clashed with malfurions magic and SEND him flying after an explosion of dark magic. qoute "a good war" page 78/90 "The fighting was still hundreds of feet away. Saurfang crept toward it, watching flashes of dark violet and emerald green ahead. There was a tremendous explosion of darkness, and then a rising sound of collapsing trees. Saurfang ducked behind cover as an object flew through the air, bouncing off tree trunks before slamming to a halt in the dirt only thirty feet away. The object raised its head-his head. Saurfang saw antlers. Without thinking, he threw his axe. The moment it left his hands, he wanted to call it back. That was Malfurion Stormrage, alive and preparing to rejoin the fight against the warchief." Sure he was alive and able to rejoin the battle but Malfurion was on home-turf, a defacto demi-god and was send flying. batterd to the point that he couldnt react / sence Saurfang. that is not 70% life as shown ingame. after he got "axed" Sylvanas reacts casually and in her sassy/arrogant way showing no signs of problems / fatigue. she than ripps the axe out and hands it to Saurfang without any indication that she is close to beeing beaten. so it was by far not "very obvious that Malfruion had the upper hand in that duel"

At this point, she's basically as powerful as the plot demands her to be.

Easy answer: For some reason Blizzard has lost their edge when writing characters. I can't say who exactly is the reason for the current track of degradation of the story-line, especially since I had high hopes for the talent of Christie Golden when I learned that she had been hired to be a writer for the game however it does show similar points that both Deathwing and the Twilight Father did in Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects- both of which were cut-out villains (i.e. evil because evil). I don't want this to seem like I'm saying "Lore Bad" or "Thing Bad", however I must also point out that the lore as of right now is lacking. Stories feel more and more shallow, characters are losing their identity and factions are becoming more and more dismal simply because there is less and less reason to care about them. I've played the Horde since BC, it was my favorite faction because of how diverse and chaotic is was. I also liked the Alliance when there was more turmoil between the leaders- especially the dynamic that honestly fell flat between Tyrande and Varian in Mists of Pandaria. The pieces for a good story are there however, they are being mishandled in an effort for quick snap-shot answers instead of complex and well written ones. You can understand an ancient being like Tyrande becoming more and more impatient in life, but it makes no sense for a general who cares about her people to simply want to jump into a battle when the Night Elves are skilled at Guerrilla Warfare- not direct battles with the Horde. TL;DR Sylvanas' power-spike is simple: she didn't have one. Her power changed because the plot demanded it and instead of creating a compelling reason- it simply is. She is no longer a character, but a caricature of her former self. Sylvanas hasn't been a "Good Guy" in a long time, but she was never directly "Evil" for the sake of Evil.

One shots the High Overlord of the OG horde, that was a bit overkill.... Mak’Gora just made her look powerful in a raw sense, but exposed her fragile Ego considering words were enough to gain an advantage against her. She even lashed out in one of the stupidest ways losing her Horde in a mere sentence... even if she DOESN’T need them, that was dumb.

Wait hold on- you keep saying sylvanas is using the void.. Wouldn’t her sister Alleria, whom is familiar with the void be able to identify it? There is no way that it is the void considering what we know. Specifically, the dead is the enemy to the void. She keeps taking about death, death, and death. So how could you just assume she’s using void magic and not something more?!

Sylvanas sounds more like the type to not "serve" N'zoth or even Azshara. Rather she's just found her next new set of pawns of power to help her clear the chess board for her.

Shadow and void have been referred as separate, but I suppose shadow comes ultimately from the void.

It could be a void magic but she does not serve N'zoth. Have you not seen the loyalist cinematic? She says N'zoth will kill them and he too will serve the "death" it's clear that she is not a servant of the void. Not to forget in the three sisters comic when void whispers to Alleria and says: kill her she serves the true enemy kill her and save yourself kill her and save everyone kill her kill her kill her" it seems to me void is pretty freaked out about sylvanas and her master so I dont see a way N'zoth granting her the power she used. It propably is a death magic and the deal was propably about not stopping alliance and horde working together to stop Azshara so that her plans would work and in return N'zoth will kill them all?

I feel I should throw out that she dominated Saurfang so easily because he was already tired from forcing his way to Org, and he's old as shit. Plus, he has a brute force style of fighting compared to the elven style of agility and dodging (more energy conservative) while also being undead (meaning unlimited stamina). Also, notice Sylvannys' valkyr are gone. maybe she sacrificed them for power. It's obvious she used them to restore some of the forsaken. Like the one she restored that was standing next to her when she said the horde is nothing.

Wasn't that big black burst just that ability she did at the siege of Lordaeron on steroids though? Same black cloud and purple bang just a lot bigger.

It's not void. She literally says she wants Nzoth dead too. Also Everyone there knows what void magic is. It's pure Death magic, this video was useless.

Necromancy. She's a banshee. She has abilities we haven't seen her use since Warcraft. Since WoW, she's been about protecting her people and making sure to keep their numbers growing. Remember her conversation with Hellscream in Silver Pines Forest? It's all she's ever cared about. Everyone dies, eventually. So eventually everyone will come to serve her. Her power is Necromancy. Hopefully that means we'll be seeing Necromancers in the next expansion.

What i find strange is that Genn beated Sylvanas. Twice but 1 of the strongest horde warriors, no? So the alliance side simply is better.

With her raw strength and magical powers, the fact that she uses a bow anymore just seems ridiculous. It's like seeing Superman using a gun.

If you think it's OP to defeat Varok so easily, what to say about defeating Bolvar in the Shadowlands cinematic?

If I'm not mistaken Farstriders are not only very skilled at ranged combat, but also in melee combat as well. Look at Halduron Brightwing the current Ranger General of Silvermoon, and Regent Lord Lor'themar Theron, both are very skilled melee fighters. Even Nathanos is very skilled in melee combat not just with a bow and arrows. So Sylvanas being able to stand toe to toe with a warrior isn't too far fetched actually.

And on the subject of Saufang not being able to defeat Sylvanas, even Thrall told him that he can't win. So considering that Thrall knew it wouldn't end with Varok winning, how anybody else that was there could have been so stunned is odd. Unless Thrall somehow knew something about her that even Lor'themar didn't.

Anyone remember even Kel’Thuzad was able to beat Sylvanas fair and square back in Warcraft 3 era

so a horde warchief is a position where you end up killed by random demon or as traitors and maybe just be a hermit yep what a nice story writing >_>

People don't remember after she pledged herself to the jailer he also gave her even more power. . . The spell she used was 100% soulrot. Same looking animation and icon. If she was given power from both her power levels would be borderline jailer level. She could be holding back a lot of potential powers the dark void had given her.

Her power is not implied to me from the void at all. Thalyssra and Jaina would recognise void magic for a start but also Sylvanas' monologue after the cinematic mentions feeding the hungering darkness and serving death. N'Zoth is not her master, she refers to him being Azshara's master and how he will also serve death. Her power is likely granted by some death entity we have not met in character yet and would also explain her power growing since Darkshore with all the deaths that have occurred since then due to the war.
