Great video, but just one minor important detail; the Portuguese did manage to control a good part of the spice trade into Europe. This had to do with the fact that the Portuguese maritime routes slowly replaced the ancient silk trade routes, since by sea it was not only much quicker, but much more cargo could be transported. In addition, Afonso de Albuquerque managed to significantly reduce Muslim entry into India, and as a result of all this, Lisbon replaced Venice as the main supplier of spices in Europe in the early 16th century, which actually led Venice into bankruptcy. For over 50 years Lisbon became the richest city in Europe as a result of this.

Much more than 50 years, even in 1750 Lisbon was where all Europeans went to trade and to learn about the marvells of the new world, new lands cultures , knowledge and different people. Lisbon was full of North Europeans as Germans from the Anseatic league who were there to get rich! The coin Golden Portuguese was the first world money and for a long time evem in Germany the Gold Portugasers were the best and most important money.

The indian sea was eventually dominated by the Portuguese that installed the cartaz system under Afonso de Albuquerque and Duarte Pacheco Pereira. They did so by fortifying all ways in and out of the Indian Ocean and charging an authorisation letter for those who wish to sail the indian.

Seriously akshay patil? Vasco Da Gama discovered Goa? So the Indians living in Goa didn't know anything about Goa? The konkanis didn't know about Goa? "In ancient literature, Goa was known by many names, such as Gomanchala, Gopakapattana, Gopakapattam, Gopakapuri, Govapuri, Govem, and Gomantak. Other historical names for Goa are Sindapur, Sandabur, and Mahassapatam." But according to Akshay Patil Goa was "discovered" and "founded" by a Portuguese! Do you even know the names of the various kings and emperors who ruled over Goa? And the best gem from you is that "the territory (Goa) was lost to India (in 1961). Seriously? Lost to India? You Sir, you demean and insult the Goan freedom fighters who gave up their lives for freedom and ultimate union with of Goa with the motherland. Shame on you.
