www.workingwithbrian.com - How Do I Become a Pilot in the Air Force
If you are interested in being a Military pilot, whether it's Air Force, Navy, or Marine Corps, the initial requirements are going to be similar.
You're going to need a college degree to even be considered. You can either attend college, then go to the Air Force's commissioning school (OCS), or you can go to college in an ROTC program. That will allow you to commission once you graduate without attending a follow on accession course.
Lastly, you can apply for admission to one of the military academies.
Whatever your commissioning source, you will need to be commissioned as an Officer before you will even be considered for piloting. Once you have your commission, you will then begin competing with your classmates for warfare designation (Pilot), Aircraft, Mission, and Location.
Contact your Local Officer Recruiting center for more information!

I'm a year into my 6 year enlistment, and I'm hoping to eventually commission and become a fighter pilot. It's one of those dreams where rather than "I hope I can make it," my thought process is "I will be up there. Someday."

Go for it. Don't let anyone stop you. I know of an enlisted troop that wanted to be a pilot but the problem was that he was the best guy in the shop. Yes, the *problem* was that he was the best performer with the best work ethic and put in long hours and was essentially punished by his commander because he didn't want to lose his best troop. *True Story*

What was the timeline for you to transition from NFO to pilot? MEPS messed up my vision test and I’m being told that I qualify for NFO and not pilot, but that when I enter the military is when I can have the records fixed regarding my vision and become a pilot. I’m researching all avenues but as someone who made that transition, I’d love to hear what you have to say!

To be a fighter pilot in the Air Force you can't have allergies past the age of 12 I don't but have a prescription for allergy medicine. I really want to be a fighter pilot but I probably don't meet that requirement on paper. I guess my question is can I still be a fighter pilot with a prescription allergy medicine or do I have to lie about it and if so how would I lie.

Hello, I am 17, a Junior in high school, and am extremely interested in becoming a fighter pilot in the military, I have thought about the different branches and I have narrowed down my choices to either the Navy or the Air Force, however, I come from a family of mostly Navy folks, and I have a general affection for the Navy, however, my parents keep telling me that "the quality of life" in the Air Force is better than it is in the Navy, I just wanted to get your take on that, I also wanted to know how hard it was for you to get to fly fighters. Any insight you can provide on this topic would be much appreciated.

JetMechMA Yep, i got the message, you have to be the best of the best. Im 14 and being a fighter pilot is one of the things i aspire to be. In fact, ive been drone racing as a hobby for a few years now (which requires amazingly fast reflexes) in first person view (with the goggles) and its actually that, thats convinced me i want to become a pilot wierdly enough. Its the sensation that you're almost in the cockpit of a plane going at 100+mph (literally) Anyway, do you have any tips? What should i do to ensure i can become a pilot. Im thinking of joining the air cadets but i know thats not enough (at my age) I go to a grammar school and although 2017 has been the worst year for me personally, exam wise, i guess i can say im mentally very good. Currently going to the gym to put some meat on my bones but i dont know what else i can do....any tips?

Hello sir, as you mentioned in your descriptions below this page regarding the Air Force commissioning to officer I have a brief question that ultimately confuses me up to this day. First I should probably say something about me so it'll be easier to help me answer my question. I am leaving next year (Feb. 16.) for AF BMT, I come in as 2W131 and have 6 years contract. Originally I wanted to become an officer. Before graduating high school in order for me to become an officer my only choice was to apply for ROTC and go to college; however I wasn't US citizen by then. Now that I am enlisted and want to commission to officer (no credit) I looked upon the Enlisted Commissioned Program and read about ASCP ( Airman Scholarship Commissioned Program). Now, what confuses me is that can I go back to college [part of ROTC], get my degree, and get commissioned as an officer considering that I finish BMT, Tech school, and a year or 2 active duty[ even before finishing my 6 years contract?] Or my only way since I am enlisted is to finish my 6 years contract, go back to college with Post 9/11 GI Bill then try to re-enlist using OTS is what's it's called?
@52Dhesser
@52Dhesser 8 жыл бұрын
yes, the ascp or soar programs work to where you will detach from active duty and be assigned to an rotc detachment (scholarship included). Once you graduate you will be commissioned as a second Lt. you don't have to finish your enlistment.

In a direct sense, no because a 4-year bachelor's degree is still required for a military officer commission. But it does give you knowledge and the ability to proceed with college ROTC if you desire which can lead to a commission as an Air Force officer.

You should get a degree in aeronautics because if you want to be a pilot you have to be an officer, and to be an officer, you have to take the AFOQT test. If you want to be a pilot you'll have to take the part of the test that tests your pilot knowledge, which you will learn from an aeronautical degree.

And if you think I'm lying or don't know shit go for it.

ASVAB does not factor in because officers do not take ASVAB
@soarcerer189
@soarcerer189 7 жыл бұрын
It does for the Army, ASVAB is a factor if applying for the Warrant Officer Flight Training program. Other than that, selection to flight school is very keen for ALL branches of the service, so in a sense your recruiter is correct. However, be wary that applying to any officer program through a recruiter is a lot of work and a most of them will try and talk you out of it because it's a lot of work for them to do. At any point in the process you can just walk away and if you don't get accepted they are out quite a bit of time.

You must take the officers test but only applicable after you've obtained a bachelors degree in any field or subject.

What if I want to go to USAFA then become a fighter pilot, or any type of pilot really. What does that look like?
@adamhoward450
@adamhoward450 5 жыл бұрын
I got you. USAFA C/O '13 1) Get into USAFA 2) Survive USAFA 3) Get picked up for a pilot slot early senior year. *In my class there were more slots than people that wanted pilot, so if you were medically qualified and wanted to fly, you got it.* 4) Graduated from USAFA and move to one of 4 pilot training bases (Laughlin AFB, TX, Sheppard AFB, TX, Columbus AFB, MS, Vance AFB, OK) 5) Survive Phase 1 and 2 (Academics and T-6 phase) 6) Track select that decides what plane your Phase 3 will be i.e. UH-1 for Helos, T-1 for any airplane other than fighter/bomber, T-38 for any airplane in the USAF 7) Finish Phase 3 8) Find out your follow-on aircraft 9) Graduate UPT *note many believe T-38 means you automatically get fighter/bomber and that's not true. all it does is qualify you to fly any airplane the USAF needs you to fly*

@adamhoward450

Generally speaking, still the same process. 1) Get 4-year degree 2) Commission into the USAF (USAFA, ROTC, OTS) 3) Get Pilot slot (if you go OTS, this can be decided prior to step 2) 4) Get to UPT, let it be known you want CV-22, perform to your absolute best

Okay okay okay. Let's straighten this out. @chris F22 pilot is amazing. Go for it. Shoot for the Academy but keep in mind of other options that will still lead you to the Air Force commission like ROTC and OTS. Don't let anyone tell you, that you can't make it or can't get in. Let the Academy tell you that. @WolfGuard101 Starting out as an F-16 pilot before F-22? Unlikely. the USAF will have dumped a lot of money and training into you to just let you jump to another platform. Not impossible but not desirable to the Air Force. What may actually happen is instead of straight to F-22, you may fly the T-38 ADAIR in the aggressor squadron which means these guys fly as "bad guys" for training for the F-22 pilots for a short time and then are guaranteed their F-22 slot. @Raptor_Aviator Same thing, apply for the Academy and let them be the ones to tell you no. You might not get straight in but if you get offered a Prep School slot, I would take it. It's one year of college courses designed to help you before going to the Academy so it's an extra year and generally speaking, everyone from the Prep School (literally about 95%) are given slots for the next Academy year. Keep the motivation us; it's what drives you. CAP is good to have for sure but make sure you have leadership positions within CAP and getting flying hours can help too. Any questions, let me know.
