When I was an overworked young mother, my husband's grandma taught me a saying, "A change is as good as a break." Your KZfaq 'sabbatical' doesn't sound like much of a break with all of your other projects waiting in the wings, but I hope it proves to be a refreshing and inspiring change for you. Dear Linda, I don’t think you need a separate lifestyle channel. You should make one video per month like a magazine in video format. In each video you can have different segments: “Linda visits the garden” - talk about what’s blooming, successes and failures around the garden that month, maybe visit other people’s gardens. “Cooking with Linda” - show a recipe using ingredients from your garden whenever possible or healthy recipes, etc “Beauty” - talk about skincare, makeup, current obsessions, treatments you’re using or testing, etc “Fashion” - Talk about shoes, clothes, purses, accessories, jewelry, etc “Travel” - talk about destinations and places you visit or planning to visit “Home Decor” - Furniture, home accessories, decor pieces, etc You should make each segment fast paced, informative, have a time limit per segment and edit it so it doesn’t seem like you’re rambling on… Include timestamps so people can skip ahead if they’re not interested in a certain subject… I think it would be very successful if you put time and thought into it with curated lists of items that people would find interesting and unique and featured guests. You could eventually launch a lifestyle brand with your name on it from furniture to clothes and gardening tools. I can see it happening!

I agree - 100% x 10. You can see it, right from the get-go, that Linda will be taking on too much. Plus, as much/as long as I had put off getting a smart phone, diving into social media and such, I'm already finding myself spending so much more time on my favorite KZfaq gardening channels alone (LV, Garden Answer, Gar 30:50 dening with Creekside, Northlawn Flower Farm, Hort Tube, Impatient Gardener, Suburban Oasis, Wyse Guide, Dig Plant Water Repeat). It's sort if like Flower Hill Farm starting off with her home/personal flower farm, & then she took on the greenhouse - I don't know how how does it (a lot of help from family members), but it's exHAUSTing, I literally had to stop watching her channel! Much luck on your endeavours, Linda. Plus don't overextend yourself!!!

There is something about being in Europe that makes you sit up and take note of people who live at a very different pace with such joy over the little things. That sends you into an evaluation of your own life. The first time I visited our exchange student in the Netherlands, I left there thinking I am not living my best life. Riding bicycles in the fresh morning air, sitting outdoors in the cool evenings, long conversations over good coffee --loved the lifestyle there. I wonder if your visit to Scotland sent you into the same evaluation process.

Building in a PAUSE in your life is so valuable Sometimes life builds the pause for us (injury or illness or loss). I find my energy is lower when the heat of the summer seems endless. And again mid winter So I slow way down. To everything there is a season. And REST and reflection is a season. We love you Linda. Take a much needed break. Don’t please anyone but your self. We will still be here for you.

Linda I have been watching your channel for several years now, and it has always been one of my favorites. You deserve the time of and I know it will be just the thing to refresh your mind and soul. Anything you ever bring us is done with much intelligence and class. Frankly I for me your garden segments are great, but I live in Michigan, so your videos do not apply to me always. However the videos you do on decorating, thrifting, outfits with Leah, what you are reading, outdoor table scapes, etc are always my favorites. I sold a large home myself and downsized after my husband passed away, shortly after you did. Your videos gave me the courage to do it. I still go back to your videos of moving into the cottage for decorating inspiration. ( I did find a smaller bungalow that I’m crazy about)! I applaud your courage to take some time off and refresh and regroup. I for one will be there watching on the other side of your journey. I’m not a great Instagram user, but you might inspire me to do the also! I know whatever you bring us will be wonderful. Enjoy every minute of you time off with peace and nourishment for you soul. This is what I vote on (haha): Keep one channel but one day be walkabout Wednesday in the garden (I love your walkabouts;) and another day could be devoted to a book club (that sounds really great!) and another day could be all about self care and wellness as you mentioned.

Sounds like a grand idea, Linda. However, I'm happy to hear you are not letting go of the plant part because the other isn't very interesting to me like the styles, etc.. Best of a happy August and September and conserve some of your energy just for your family.

As a teacher, the 8 week break in summer helps me recharge to take on a new year. I love having so much time to putter with my flowers. I don’t take on summer school assignments. I need a tru break from all work commitments.

I don’t know how many times I have thought to myself, “Self, how does Linda do it all? She has to be exhausted!” Whereas I will miss seeing your new content regularly, I won’t feel so guilty about not watching you because I’m a teacher and Augusts are very hectic as we begin a new year. I am a high school teacher. Spending 8 weeks of summer in the garden helps me refresh to take on a new year. It’s not a job that I would be willing to g to do year round.

Your outlook on life is inspiring and I love how you are reinventing yourself. It’s wonderful that you are giving yourself time to relax and take a break! Your timing is perfect, it’s a reminder for many of us to enjoy our gardens, sitting, and just taking it in, without laboring in this extreme heat of summer. Love the idea of your second channel. Your thrifting, styling, and shopping videos are actually my favorite to watch. I garden, but am not an avid gardener, and your climate is so different from mine in upstate N.Y. it doesn’t feel as relevant for me. Enjoy your time off and I look forward to your new ventures in the Fall.
