How do I put gas in my van from my wheelchair?

Putting gas in my van is one of my least favourite things to do. Here is how I do it, as a wheelchair user, when I can not find a full service gas station.

The driver side mobile transfer board is neat. I've never seen one of those before.

I thought about that myself but on the road I’ll be on my own and not sure how the camera shot will be, that will be a definite challenge great job on showing this and I loved your family thoughts about it as well. 😊

Yes everything is relative isn't it. If I think about it there are always people who have it more difficult than me too.

I am using a walker, and there is no full service in my area only self serve , so sometimes it’s difficult

Wow! The things we never even think about not being in a wheelchair. I'm super impressed with the gadgets that allow you to do this! Have you ever begun to get out to get your gas and had someone offer to do it for you, once they realized?

the only time someone offered to help was when i could not get the gas cap off. When I am home i go to a full serve gas and let them do it.

You rock! No disrespect intention but man that's a lot of work just to get gas. You don't have to answer this if you don't want to? But how does your body deal with that seeing That it takes so much more to do things. I have to stonia so that's what I'm kind of wondering because for me It's always changing and my body is having a hard time dealing with it all the time cause it's always different. Thanks sam for helping film so we can watch it.

For me to keep moving is good. I do have bad shoulders and hands from overuse but I am able to deal with that by doing lots of stretching too. Hopefully it does not get worse. Surgery would be the option if it does but that would take me out for quite a long time.

Many gas stations will pump for you, if you have disabled plates or a hanging tag. Once you pull up to the station, usually, you flash your headlights and an attendant will be sent out to pump for you or you can google the gas stations number (per their address/location) and request the service and find out if they do help disabled people to get gas. You have a very nice chair. Would you happen to know where I can find one similar? The one the clinic provided and are charging me for is impossible for me to maneuver on my own. I would dearly love to hit the road like you. 🚐🏔

Thanks for the info. I did not know about the flashing the lites thing. My chair is an RGK. If you go to a medical supply store they can probably order one for you. Hopefully you have good financial resources or coverage. They are not cheap but worth the cost
