How do Treflips REALLY work?

In this video, we will study the mechanics behind the 360 kickflips, AKA treflips.
You can view 3D models from here:
whythetrick.io/how-to/the-mec...
360 kickflips are commonly misunderstood due to its complexity of the trick. In this video, we study how it works using 3D technologies.
Please take a moment and try to study this in detail.
I'm trying to eliminate subjectivity from my explanation as much as possible by referring to scientific and physics theories. Please use my 3D models to solve your "why."

Traditionally, skateboarding how-to videos have always been subjective and the majority of explanations are based on speakers' experiences.
To avoid relying on my personal experiences, please fully utilize the 3D models.
All skaters have different questions.
So that you can analyze skateboarding tricks in detail and solve your "whys," those 3D models are made fully interactive.
The 3D models feature these functions below:
- change camera angle
- adjust play speed
- change transparency
- display gridlines, etc.
Aside from that, I try to explain concepts of skateboarding tricks based on facts, calculations, scientific and physics theories. I may make mistakes so please leave a comment if you find anything.

EXTREMELY underrated videos you have. With such a technical physics perspective, this truly helped me land them after 2 years of hell. this video targets a small audience of like minded people who have a critical thinking method of skateboarding. i wish this video was available when i was first learning them, thank you!!!

Bro just watch neen in slow mo over n over n over…. I learned heelflip’s before kickflips and I even taught my homies how to have better heelflips… the way ppl set up with their toes hanging off is ridiculous looking and unnecessary u can heelflip buttery from Ollie position… think of it as an Ollie then with ur Ollie patch of your shoe flick off off the nose exactly the same as you would for a boned out kickflip just opposite Obvs lol and your heelflips will be wet but make sure ur thinkin Ollie when ur flickin or you won’t get the flick u need Jamie foy even mentioned he got better heelflips from neen but he’s to used to the way he learned how to setup to adjust his feet.

I never ever thought it's possible to treflip without flicking with a front foot before your video! Thanks A LOT!!! Now I see! :) Bro, next step could be finding the best way to add a little flick to make tre flips high enough to flip into slides and grinds. I think, a ball of a front foot can be placed right in the middle of a concave and in a middle of a board slightly closer to front bolts. And an angle can be almost default like an ollie, bcuz I only need to do a little flick at one eighth on horizontal spin. In other words, when a board turns 45 degrees out of full 360 rotation. It could be tricky to find the best trajectory to make a board go higher in the air with less effort: less power and less aplitude of front foot :)

How are you so sure that it's the rebound of bending the board over the truck hanger that flips it, and not the rebound of when it smacks off the ground??? Or if it's done without any pop, then it could be being flipped like an underflip.
@wesleyfung9418
@wesleyfung9418 2 жыл бұрын
So if the bounce of the trucks is what causes tre flips to flips, that means postioning your foot away from the edge of the board will help to prevent pop shuvs from going primo as the foot near the edge causes the bounce to happen? Does it make sense? Could you make a video on pop shuvs? It seems simple but i cant get mine right.

hi, Im also a skater in Tokyo and your videos are just amazing to let you know. By the way, when doing treflips I try to distribute weight just like you do, the board rotates perfectly but I always land in front of the board, with my heels barely on the board. I feel like Im leaning too much forward and my head facing down but I wanna hear your opinion. What should I do
@whythetrick
@whythetrick 2 жыл бұрын
thanks a lot for the comment. By "in front of the board," I'm guessing you land on the toe side of your board, not toward the nose, right? Without seeing you try it, there’s only so much I can say so please just allow me to answer your question out of my imagination. Logically thinking, the problem your body lands in front of your board is caused by either: - You are jumping too far forward - Your board is not moving forward enough. Whatever the reason is, as a matter of fact, your board is not being able to slip under your feet by the time your body starts to fall. Among every reason I can imagine, I believe these are common reasons: #1 You are leaning too far forward If the center of gravity of your body is located too far forward relative to your board, you'd wind up kicking your board backward. If this is the case, you might be forcing your board to go to the heel side. #2 You are swinging your backfoot. Just like the previous one, this'd also "send" your board to the heel side. When I Treflip, I hardly swing my backfoot (like I do when I run). Instead, the spin of the board is a product of the weight distribution: if your weight is located on the toe side of your board, as you try to pop, you'd be popping the tail toward the heel side WITHOUT swinging your backfoot. phew

Do a heelflip whilst wrapping front foot around board counterclockwise!! Is a fake front foot manual to big spin out possible? I'm close but one foot manual on nose to a f big spin is hard I gotta keep my foot like 45 degree angle but it's hard to pop spin

You think tightening my back truck will allow me to store a little more energy since I skate extremely loose i'm having to compensate that energy with scooping too hard?
@whythetrick
@whythetrick 2 жыл бұрын
I ride loose trucks too and I can't scoop properly if they are too tight. it might be a problem if the rear hanger doesn't respond quickly, which might be caused by the presence of a space between bushings and hanger. So just try replacing bushings periodically.

good point. I guess i could also talk about the difference between tight/soft bushings in the future. In my case, I ride bones hardcore medium bush. they are fairly loose and I love how they feel. honestly, I sometimes have hard time doing treflips without them. although it all comes down to one's preference, I do recommend bones hardcore bushings.

i don't know if I can ever explain how it feels like but to me, a treflip doesn't consume as much energy as an ollie does. I think this is because I don't have to think about my front foot.

I think you need to have a more clickbait like title. Mechanics of a tre flip sounds like a project for school. It may attract those of us who enjoy physics, however it may leave out the average skater. Maybe try some thing like, “Physics behind the trick: Tre flips”. Also this may just be me, but when I first started out, I would always focus on the physics of the trick when I wanted to learn it. Especially for Ollie’s. If you made a video on the physics behind an Ollie, you may attract more viewers, as beginner tutorials always seem to get the most views. Plus posting your videos on r/newskaters or r/skateboard would be a method of advertising. You could say hey I just made this video and want to know what you guys think of it. Just make sure not to over do it or you will get hate for it. Over time you should get more viewers, you are just a new channel rn. But you definitely have a niche for sure. I have to say I love your videos and I hope they get more attention in the future

@@whythetrick Maybe an exaggerated thumbnail and something like 'Instantly understand tre-flips with this one simple trick' as recommended above. I don't think it is a bad idea to give in to the algorithm with some clip bate and flashy titles. But honestly, this was extremely helpful for me and I landed my first tre-flip after watching your videos. Great video and thank you for sharing!
