Their views on the first chapter of Genesis make no sense to me. It is not the Bible that confuses me. It is the science of young earth creationists. I was, however, trying to be respectful of their opinion without resorting to ad hominems. I already said that the word "create" was not an accurate translation of the Hebrew. But the text isn't silent in the issue. 1) Something that would be of great importance is never mentioned. If it happened, then the text becomes untrustworthy especially the reason for Christ's sacrifice. If the 'gap theory' is true then death coming in through Adam's sin is false, and if that is false then so is Christ's sacrifice. 2) The natural meaning of the words used. Each word in any language has a meaning, and that is also supported by the context. If I say "it's 8am on the 7th of June' I don't mean 'I ate my car in a nuclear missile as the submarine flew across the pork lightbulb cat". Stretching 'day' to mean 'billions of years' when the language deliberately binds it to a clear 24hr period is nonsense, more so than my sentence up there. We know each period is clearly a single day by the use of the word 'yom' and by the setting of morning/evening boundaries in the text for each day. We can know it's a single week for creation as that is the basis for the Sabbath law, spoken elsewhere in the Bible several times. The text is absolutely clear, and deliberately so.

Jesus was seen several times in the OT. Abraham, David, Joseph just to name a few all saw "Christophenes" or Jesus in His pre-incarnate being. An indian tribe (of which I forget the name of) in the USA, before Columbus "Discovered" America, held and guarded a sealed container, which had been passed down from generation to generation. Early settlers & pioneers convinced the Elder of the tribe to open it. Inside were scrolls. They were sent for translation, and it happened to be a partial copy of the Torah (several thousand years old) which contained the Genesis creation account. The scroll in their tongue said "Sun" instead of Day. So read: "...there was evening, and there was morning, the first Sun", "...the second Sun" etc... and so confirmed that indeed it was Days of creation and not some contrived idea by godless theologians. These documents (as were the original scriptures), were written thousands of years before the Gap Theory heresy was introduced in or around the 1800's. Only when Evolution became the popular myth, was the gap theory introduced as the "Church" sought to interpret the Bible to explain, and fit in with, Evolution. The Gap theory is rubbish, and so is anything other than 6 days/Sun's of creation. Genesis is not an analogy, poetic licence or anything else these " Theologians" imagination wants to conjure up. It is literal. God's word should be taken literally. God doesn't mince words like men, He says what he means and means what he say's.

I heard a theory based on the first few chapters in Genesis and takes your proposition seriously. The idea was that Adam and Eve lived long in Eden, having sons and daughters as perfect as themselves... then Adam and Eve fell and were cast out of Eden. And this theory proposes that the perfect children did not fall at that time. After the flood, other children fell in Eden and were also cast out. Their motive was to explain the passages about the Son's of God looking on the daughters of men and joining with them. I only relate this theory. I do not believe it. The Bible makes no mention of children for Adam and Eve until the births of Cain and Abel. Of course we can assume there were other children born, but assuming they were not effected by the fall seems a stretch. I'm not sure how long our first parents lived in perfection... but if I had to guess, I'd say God rested on the seventh day and Eve plucked the fruit by the next Thursday afternoon.

Actually, Jewish history holds the belief that Adam only sinned in his 33rd year, which is why Jesus was crucified at 33 (the Jews don't say that, they don't believe in Jesus), to live the lifespan of Adam and redeem the exact same amount of time before sin. If that is so, Satan could rebel any time from 0 to 33 years before tempting Adam.

The bible also doesn't even hint that we live on a spinning ball yet most people believe what taught in schools and by scientists today. On the contrary Gods word says that the earth is stable and unmoving with a dome (firmament) over it with the sun, moon, and stars within this enclosed system. Open your eyes to see the truth.

Good question for the protestants. Saturday is the sabbath, the 7th day of the week. Satan, as usual, inverts things - so I suppose he turned the 1st day of the week into the "last" so people would break the 4th Commandment more readily and on a regular basis.

Protestants still follow that Catholic tradition of the Christian sabbath being Sunday that was established in the early Church by the Holy Spirit.
