Had the flywheel resurfaced for my 3010 John Deere when I replaced the clutch. Glad I was there assisting the person doing the machining. An older man in his 70s. Just needed some assistance. Why Capacity clutch kit for this particular setup is sent with a diagram on the clutch stacking measurement tool you can make. Compare the tool diagram dimensions to the printed numerical dimensions. The diagram is .100" shorter than the numerical dimensions. I called Hy Capacity about this and the tech I talked to confirmed that. When you make that tool use the numerical measurement, the basic profile is the same as the print. Just an FYI.

Huge fan of the channel. Thank you for these videos. I was thinking it would be nice if you had a fixed cam pointed at the machining surface in a little window on the video so we can see the surface gradually come right. The sped up part was super interesting since it showed that fresh flat patch of metal gradually get larger showing the slightly warped surface imperfections disappear. Thank you for sharing this knowledge of the dark arts with us.

Those new diamond grinding stones are so much cleaner and safer than the old stones of yesteryear. For automotive, the flywheel grinder was a relatively busy piece of equipment 20 years ago, but with most newer vehicles being primarily automatic, this machine in an average shop isn't used a lot any more.

Another issue with old flywheels are the fact they can wear either convex or concaved This will result in low pedal or no pedal. When resurfaced there is a true flat surface as shown.

grinding or replacing the flywheel is just the same as a machining or replacing a brake rotor when replacing the pads. Do you HAVE to do it? no, but it's a good practice for maximum life of the parts

So I have a question. My dad is a machinist and we have always had had a machine shop at the house because he did work at the house. Not really automotive more industrial job shop type work. When I was in high school he resurfaced a flywheel for me in the lathe for me. Now my question is was it wrong of us to cut that flywheel with a regular carbide tool? I'm just curious because the finish when he was done was on point and never had an issue with my clutch after that.

@@fubartotale3389 gotcha. That is what I figured that how ever you achieved it didn't really matter, between using the surface grinder or a lathe. Being around a lathe all my life I just assumed you would face most stuff off in a lathe.
