How do we train the brain that we can automatically bring our attention into the present moment?
That our thought activity, the repetitive and incessant thoughts subside, and that we can connect fully with whatever we are doing, that we can have 100% of our attention on the task at hand without distraction.
To train the brain, focus on the breath. Hold your attention exclusively on your breathing. When you can hold your attention on your breathing, you can hold your attention on any task or subject matter. This is concentration.
Watch this video with Patrick McKeown, the world-renowned breathing expert, author, and lecturer.
Over the past 15 years, he has trained thousands of people around the world with breathing techniques that lower stress levels, reduce overall anxiety, and improve physical wellbeing. Patrick is the creator of the Oxygen Advantage, and his latest book ‘The Oxygen Advantage’ aims to revolutionize your health and fitness, using simple, scientifically proven, breathing techniques.

Krishnamurti said a similar thing. But your book is about to change my mind and life. I m a calm, introverted person, but my mind is running, sometimes more, sometimes less. And the smartphone isn't doing anything good as well for bringing attention to the mind. But without it as a tool, I wouldn't have found a lot of healthy habits. Thank you

I heard a saying that the mind controls the body and the breath controls the mind. I have found that to be the case . Patrick has described simply how to develop this skill. It is open to all who commit to the practice.

When you asked, where are you now with your thoughts, I was surprised by how deep I was into your video, which normally does not happen. Just the fact that you point out exactly at what I am going through! I started to realize how meditation was helping me, but my discipline is just to bad... Got me some motivation with this, thanks a lot!

Great vid. Thanks Patrick. I used the Oxygen Advantage sport mask again today whilst hiking and doing sprints up a hill. Fantastic tool to have. Really helps using nasal breathing as opposed to mouth breathing. Thanks again

how to quieten the mind? yes, breath control is one way that's accessible to all. But there are other simple ways: gardening - it works every time! also, drawing, painting, singing, playing a musical instrument regularly - these practices help bring the mind into calm very quickly indeed.

I forgot to say... another excellent way to cultivate daily calm: don't drive your car if you have the option of walking your own neighbourhood, if its one that is safe and pleasant to walk through. This also is a calming daily practice that never fails

I understand the reasons for breathing in through the nose. But what about breathing out through the mouth ? Does it matter ? I find breathing in and out through the nose all the time I sleep better and am more relaxed, but I procrastinate more. When I breath in through the nose and out through the mouth I feel more energized and focused. It would be great if you could speak on this.
@OxygenAdvantage
@OxygenAdvantage 4 жыл бұрын
also, important to breathe out through the mouth. Breathing out through the mouth causes a 42% greater moisture loss from the body and contributes to nasal congestion. It is not about being relaxed. It is about having a balance. One can also be alert, focused etc with slow breathing.

@@boomboom-hx9uc When you say what % should you be aiming for, what do you mean? Is it at rest? Is it in your day to day life? Or is it during training to increase your tolerance to CO2?

@@OxygenAdvantage Hi, Patrick, Re: Exhaling: I heard a program yesterday featuring a long-time professional dance & Yoga instructor who said it is important to inhale through the nose AND EXHALE through the NOSE, as well. I hope you might "Focus" on this part of breathing for those of us who wish to learn as much as possible on this all-important subject. Note, since hearing you for the first time on "INPACT," I believe, I have been doing my best to follow your interviews wherever possible. From childhood I had always been a shallow breather. When I stumbled upon a book called "Aerobics," I took up running & that "forced" me to breathe deeply which helped a lot. For a number of reasons, including injuries, all that lapsed for over 10 years. Now I am gradually making amends at rebuilding my health by alternating daily a.m. Sprints ( to reset my Circadian Rhythm) with bike rides, & doing my best to incorporate Nasal Breathing. It has been difficult but I am making progress. Your comments on all of the above will be greatly appreciated.😇

I notice that I am back watching the video again and I notice that this video isn't doing what It did the first time. Where I could tell that ... A living person could easily do that to anyone... It was working for myself.. now. Things are far worse .... So obv there is no one around... And no one talking to myself and redoing things differently than what the guy and the video and myself did days ago.... I'm back. And not one word is making sense. I came back to this video because I couldn't get away from the "over ruled effect". Now how am I back here and getting worse..... No god has ever been accepted or devil by myself. Not dead parent or alien. So.... What does anyone say is doing it? I was almost turned gay... I that.short time. ..

The zone....zone..are you In the zone..... The first did you know that the word concentration and if someone were to use it specific drug and they focus and they concentrate extremely hard with it and it works for him that generally keeps in mind and everything going pretty occupied and keeps it on track take a person who's been subjected hypnosis and you use the word are you in the zone to him or her and you leave them and hit those estate in a train state for brainwashing which means the next time they hear that the word zone it will click the music for him they'll be in a trance they will understand what the zone heavily concentration and focusing means without the drug next time they hear the word the zone isn't click in their head way I'm being brainwashed who's doing the brainwashed now who does it how do you do it if you're not there next to the person I'm going to brainwash myself hi I'm new in town hello I'm here to work with myself hi I'm trying to train train my brain or have I been hypnotized or does it take let's see la la beyond land to have something happen where I think there's deceased people with duties that know how to do that stuff no none of the above it takes one person one time to do it the one person and then he can teach anybody who wants to it's hypnotism brainwashing listen to it over and over and over here nothing I'll try it one more time because I'm going to eventually going to get the point across the a meeting I said I'm cuz I'm kaboom you know and it doesn't matter doesn't matt

I need him to say it in multiple ways. The best: if you can't focus on your breathing long, then you are not focusing well.... something like that. I have struggled with ADHD all my life and have had breathing issues. I am getting shook much better. I love the calm way he speaks.
