Found your book "The Oxygen Advantage" by way of James Nestor's book "Breathe: The New Science of a Lost Art" and I've really enjoyed exploring the different techniques that are discussed as well as the accompanying studies and stories. I'm 32 years old, in relatively good health but I've been a mouth breather for as long as I can remember. My friends and family started telling me that I would hold my breathe in my sleep for long periods of time and frequently when I was around 20 years old, so I did a sleep study back in 2015 and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I've used a CPAP machine ever since then, and while my sleep seemed to be improved, I would still wake up 2-3 times a night from fidgeting with the CPAP equipment. I've now been trying the sleep tape technique for a week, but so far it's seemed to be ineffective at keeping my mouth closed. My girlfriend has said that I've been snoring and have stopped breathing for a short periods of time. One thing I know I struggle with is eating within two hours of going to sleep. I also need to increase the "Breathe light Breathe Right" technique throughout the day and before I go to bed, but I'm not sure I'm performing the breathing exercise correctly. It's confusing to me to breathe less with each in-breath, because if I do that then eventually I won't breathe in any at all. Is that how I'm supposed to do that? Nonetheless, the material is wonderful and it's given me new hope for a healthier life all the way around. Cheers!

My teacher calls centration not concentration. When why hear and stop talking with mind. This is related also with the way of watching. When we see something, and we redirect our atention to some object is concentration, but when we watch something and we open periferic watching and we see what is around we are centrated. Also importan the natural post of exalation. Great video, very clear!

I know this is practice and at age 63 teaching the old dog new tricks isn’t gonna be easy ..but I must try to get my breathing into gear to help with anxiety. Thanks Patrick 👏

The Buddha said that everyone is asleep to the world but awake to their desires and aversions, which is one of the meanings of Buddha, typically people try to push undesirable thoughts out of their mind creating more aversion and instantly creating a desire because their desire is to get rid of aversion. So when your agitated you focus on your thoughts first which agitates your breathing then makes you feel agitated and behave agitated, but if you focus on the breath first and bring it under control until its normal and peaceful and don't try to push the agitated thought out of your mind your breath will control the agitation and you'll feel at peace and act like that. It doesn't matter what the thought is about, as long as your breathing is peaceful you'll feel peaceful. By moving the attention to your breathing you take the energy away from the thought.

I am now reading teh Oxygen advantage and it's a great book. I love you work, recently i have been coming to the conclusion about nasal breathing on my own, but i after reading the book i have begun to take a close attention to it throughout the day and during exersice. I jsut want to ask about measuring the BOLT score. Do i start the breath hold after a medium exhalation, or do i need to exhale all the air in the lungs? There is a difference in the score between the two.

Question: my children seem to be breathing through their noses, but not into their stomach. They exhale by pushing their tummy out and inhale into the upper chest by pushing their tummy in and up!! It is hard for them to coordinate an inhale into the lower lungs.. Is there a tip u can give me..
@greenbudgieplays8092
@greenbudgieplays8092 4 жыл бұрын
They probably have incorrect oral and body posture, causing the chest breathing. Just because they may not mouth breathe doesn't mean that they are doing things right. I've been a nose breather my whole life, but had bad oral posture and incorrect breathing.

How do you increase your BOLT score?
@OxygenAdvantage
@OxygenAdvantage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Lyonel. How to improve BOLT score: 1. You need to be practicing about 60 minutes of breathing exercises every day. 2. If you go for a walk, go for a walk with your mouth closed. 3. Slow down your breathing during walk. 4. If you are suited to do the breath holds, do 5 reps of breath holds during that walk (one to two times daily), with about a minute, gap between each breath hold. 5. Do 15 minutes of slow, reduced breathing before you go to sleep.

I'm wondering if this could help me lose the desire to smoke cigarettes by increase of oxygen to the brain and helping me stay focused. Have you heard testimonies? Thank you!
@OxygenAdvantage
@OxygenAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Hi Becky, Breathe Deep would help in this situation. Breathe Deep improves attention, balances emotions and helps in dealing with stress. It increases blood flow and oxygen delivery to the brain. Stimulates the vagus nerve. Achieves optimal movement of the diaphragm and helps bring a calmness to the body and mind. And when your mind is calm, concentration and attention span increase. There are some studies to help support this. clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03728530 www.verywellmind.com/deep-breathing-for-nicotine-withdrawal-2824751 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7064378/
