Eckhart Tolle is widely recognized as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world.
Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness - a global spiritual awakening.
Eckhart Tolle is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which has been translated into 32 languages and become one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
In his most recent book, A New Earth, he shows how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.

"Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally." - Echkart Tolle.

There are many reasons why an enlightened person would like to make changes: to practically help others, to serve the divine plan, to use the energy more economically and so on. But he/she never does this obsessively or fanatically, but calmly, never losing Presence and inner peace.

Wow! I have been grappling with this issue for a hell of a long time. Thanks Eckhart! Btw really this teaching has much to do with the middle way in my thoughts, I have been grappling with the situation along the lines of "why should I cook dinner? Why should I eat? Why should I do anything? Why shouldn't I just lay in bed or sit in a chair and stare at a wall all day?" I realize now that even doing nothing is doing something, therefore I might as well do something that will make me more comfortable on different levels. This means getting up to eat, all the way to preparing for something, such as working out at the gym or going to school, even if these activities do not result in what you expected there is no reason to not try. One should also be careful of indulging in too much. I would say it is a more advanced thought, if you could call it "advanced". To me, one must have experience in dropping their thought body first. Cheers

The Middle Path - not remaining in the same situation forever, nor constantly changing life situations as some kind of imagined necessity for inner peace. No extremes, no this or that, but the middle path.

We all still have our training wheels; We all have far to go; We all have momentary blips; There's things we've yet to know. Some days, they can be wonderful; A drift upon the breeze; Others we do struggle, Can fall down to our knees. For we all still have so much to learn, And still a hill to climb, But as long as love stays in our hearts, All will work out fine. So what if you aren't perfect, That was not the plan; You're here to enjoy your life, As human as you can. So drink that wicked whiskey; Smoke your pipe of peace; Don't worry if you struggle still, With human wants and needs. Your house is looking messy? Your children running riot? Yet, under skin, you've grown within, You've found your blessed quiet. Each on a separate journey; Some further than the rest; But all of us still loving life, And living it our best

I think its nice when people struggle and eventually find their own enlightenment, just like ekhart tolle did. Its nice to hear from people like eckhart, but really you cant learn to surf by reading or book or listening to someone talk about it, its much more beautiful and surprising when you come to the state of mind yourself. But i guess it doesn't really matter how it happens, he is spreading the word that such a thing exists.

It's horrible to go through the whole process but as Echkart mentioned in another video then retrospectively you are thankful to know that everything is a dream, that nothing in the world of form is real

For fun, adventure. Peace is not oblivion. We do not drool and soil ourselves rather then to stop a peaceful meditation and use the bathroom (unless it was a reeeeally peaceful meditation!). The balance of blissful peace of mind is to do what you can when you can. A most beautiful flower falls on the wind before your eyes. Do you not look? Do you not be in the experience of seeing the flower simply because you do not need to be reminded of it's beauty because you are already at peace?

This is a question I’ve been pondering for many years!!! My answer that I kept coming back to was that you would then just be doing things for the sake of doing them / to create an experience that would serve to further your expansion/ for enjoyment. I consider myself to be enlightened - I am certain that I had one of these kundalini awakenings many, many years ago. Much love Eckhart and can’t wait to see you in June !

Besides our ego, I think it's also important to remember to "surrender" our beliefs, and even more importantly, our fears to the light of pure conscious awareness, as well. Fear and belief are both big contributors to propping up the ego, and they need to go if we are to be free from ego. Cheers.

On the surface, choice seems to operate. However once the sense of being a person is less prevalent, it seems that free will does not operate. There is a feeling that there is some kind of invisible guide which makes actions happen and you are just going along for the ride. The strange thing is that there is tremendous peace in this because it seems as if effort is not so much needed in daily living. The perception is sharpened as choice is eliminated because the ideas of like and dislike do not interfere. Yes, on little things like chaining the seats on a bus , choice continues to operate. However as Eckhart says the effect of the choice does not eliminate the sense of peace that is always there in the being. There seems to be a different kind of action which does not have a personal motive which is operating in daily living. You are connected, as it were with a universal will which is not personal. This makes living much easier and heightens perception in every area of daily living. You continue to make mistakes and many things continue to fall apart, but you give them less significance. You know somehow that you are connected with a much larger being. I don't know if there is any such thing as an enlightened being because without the sense of being a separate person, what is supposedly "enlightened" is simply the space or energy field that inhabits the being. It is not a separate person and does not manifest individually!!! It is full of light and luminosity and empties the being from the sense of separation!!! google.com/+WilliamGainessky

In terms of changing a habit after enlightenment, something tolle still hasn't discussed to my mind - swapping seats on a bus is not the same as changing a habit that's built up for many years! How would affirmations fit in? Because it seems to me that they are a tool kit that only the egoic mental system can make use of, i mean i've tried, I've said: "I can do it!" "I'm able to do it!" But they just don't mean anything to me anymore, because what that's really saying is "I can do (this behaviour)", "I'm able to do (this behaviour)". However my perception (since sudden enlightenment) is that i'm not doing any of my behaviour, i can't even view it as MY behaviour, because the behaviour comes from thinking and I don't perceive myself as DOING the thoughts, rather i percieve myself as observing the thoughts/feelings as they 'flow through me'

Take the path of least resistance. I guess if one is rooted in peace this can also be called intuition. There's no reasoning, no planning, no real choice, it just happens.

People want to change the world so that they're more comfortable in it. When the illusory self is no longer there then the demand for change within is no longer there and when the demand for change within is no longer there the demand for change without is no longer there.

+Gary A - I felt the same way, but this is what seems to have worked for me. I would listen to the audio book of “Practicing the Power of Now” for 2-3 hours each day. Take a 10 minute break every 45 minutes so you hold your attention. If you reach a point where you cannot stand hearing him again, take a week or two off, then start again. If you are serious, I'd suggest walking on a treadmill or going for a walk rather than Facebook/Internet or driving to work listening to it. But each to their own...

that's the one where i disagree with echart when you want to climb the ladder of life, that's where you listen to the ego, because the ego is there for e reason echart is a very wise man and he has enlightened my life; however he's old and he cannot sympathise with the strife ascociated with the life of a youngster where he has his whole life ahead of him what i'm saying is it's good to be at peace, however understand that ego and negative thoughts have a reason for existng too, dont't ignore them; listen to them as they are your inner manifestations for improvement

I am Yes but he has sunk below the level of thought... Being present with a drunkard will not enlighten him. U are basically not judging him but drunk people need space becoz they are capable of so many uncontrolled body responses for example vomiting, violence, argumentative etc... Give them their space if possible if not then prepare for emesis...

if you are enlightened you don`t need to change. change is gudgment. its dualistic aproach of mind. to chose is mind, move without choice acceptance without acceptance of what/wich road of live shows. enjoying meetings and only seeing beaty and gift of all its part of you, its your creation/miror and onness with all nothing.

However, unlike the Buddha, St. Francis went from the wilderness back into a cave. In other words, a "worse" surrounding environment. This occurred after going on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. He returned to find that his followers had increased from less than a dozen to over two thousand- many whom wrote their own rules. To me, it seems that solitude is the key to peace. The ego cannot survive without society. Find peace wherever you by being a recluse.

+gbattles777 The solitude that you are looking for is in You . The outward happenings are just ripples , that's what Tolle is saying. It's not that you need become a recluse , but that people will go away from you, you being egoless and you can't feed their egos and you're happier and present
