Compare one of these F55s to the original 'new Mini' (R50/2/3). People complained about the size of those when they came out, but now they're small vs what's on the road 20 years later!

If you take the front bumper skin off then loosen a few bolts on the under sub frame and a couple at the front the whole front of the car comes off in one piece with the rad pack in etc then it is much easier to get the engine& box back in & connect everything up

Hi Phil, good to see you back and as enthusiastic as ever. Should be a great car when it is sorted. Brave decision to get it out from the top, but you used all your trickery to get it out. Surprised how cheap a replacement motors cost you. Are you going to put in a new clutch plate and pressure plate for good measure? Last comment, wonder insurance costs are so high when they are writing off late cars like this. Given they will on replace the engine with a new Mini unit the costs go off the scale. This is the future of motoring, even worse in the EV world! 😮

The color is what I like to call COVID gray, I call it that because during COVID everything shut down and they ran out of pigment for paint so a lot of the manufacturers brought this gray into their lineup because it's the easiest paint to make with the least amount of pigments hence the color gray so every manufacturer like BMW Honda etc has this color gray added during COVID it's a nice grey they just ran out of pigments to make other colors

Cant agree with your diagnosis. Water ingress would not do that. That is total lack of oil. I would hazard a guess that the sump has been smashed on a speed bump & the driver has kept going with little oil in engine. You need to think about turbo also, as it would of been starved of oil also.
@SeriousAboutSalvage7 ай бұрын
Unfortunately we're all just guessing at this point, sump has no damage and looks original, underpan is with the car and also undamaged. Turbo looks and feels to be good, service history is up to date on the onboard computer with full bmw history and serviced 3k miles ago. Water is a guess but can't think of any other reason why bmw would refuse the warranty, and with the amount of water we have had recently especially up north where this car came from it would wouldn't be a surprise. But like I said just a guess 🙂
@runningon-dinosaurs15697 ай бұрын
Could you have removed the engine through the front of the car by removing the rad and front panel leaving the A/C condenser connected and moved out of the way? Would be a lot easier on the way back in.
