DUDE THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING! The age of wifi (or anything wireless for that matter) is the largest leap mankind has done in ever. Literally. And to have been alive in that timeframe is absurdly overwhelming. Like when I was a kid, I grew up with dial up, which even as a kid makes sense. And now even as an adult, Wifi still sounds like Sorcery.

@@ozzylepunknown551 before there was operating systems like windows, computers would (and still do) use physical chips connected to wires with on (0) and off (1). These little chips have built in logic, which is basically just wires and transistors hooked up in a way that allows a specific calculation to be made. basically, people found a way to hook these parts up in a way that display stuff to a screen and then built from there

It uses radio waves. The simplest way to make radio waves is with a spark. That's why you sometimes lose cellphone reception in a thunder storm. Cellphones also use radio waves. The real magic is the complicated computer chips that control the whole thing.

The light sending is actually pretty easy. Every wire with electricity flowing through it "glows". You can choose and tune the frequency with the length and material. That's why antennas for different use cases look different.

Fun fact: the military also uses frequency hopping for radio communications, although they do it at a much higher change rate and over a much larger span of frequencies. They also change the key for that specific set of "hops" daily, making it almost impossible to listen to the military if they dont want to be listened to

10/10 explanation. I loved how simple it is that even a kid with no previous knowledge could watch this video and, in less than 4 minutes, understand the basics of ultrasonic waves, encryption keys, etc. in a very engaging way. Also, apart from kids, people with previous knowledge can have a good time with this video because of how fun you make it. Apart from all this, people who didn't know any of this can get interested and use this information for further research. I genuinely have never seen a channel like this one that makes any subject or piece of information fun to learn for literally everyone. As someone with an interest in telecommunications, I'm glad other people are asking these questions, because telecommunications are WAY more complex than people think, and folks really just take it for granted. Slight correction, at 0:55 you're describing frequency-shift keying or FSK (changing between 2 frequencies to send a 1 or 0) where most modern wireless modes use phase-shift keying or PSK. The difference is that in phase-shift keying, the device isn't modulating (changing) the frequency, and is instead modulating the phase of the radio wave. The change in phase is what communicates a 1 or 0. In fact PSK is more efficient because it's usually groups of bits and actually communicates a 00, 11, 01, or 10 based on what phase the wave is. PSK is also more robust which is why it's used in modern solutions. Digging into the Bluetooth specification, it seems to use a combo of FSK and PSK, but for fast data rates like audio I suspect it's mainly PSK, Bluetooth-LE seems to be where FSK is used most.

I appreciate you adding this clarification. Even though I literally work as an EE designing electronics with Bluetooth / BLE in them, I always forget the modulation types because it's usually a fairly hands-off thing when designing a product with one of those wireless protocols in it. I just know it's *probably not just FSK*, lol. Also, I really like this video but I imagine the color = frequency should be explained as color = symbol to allow for further expansion on that basic idea. That'd allow you to explain stuff like QAM or the various kinds of other weird modulation methods that you can find in something like the Wi-Fi spec.

This is actually very interesting. I actually had an issue pairing my buds, and I ended up being able to listen to my music while also having my mom's notifications and typing. It was able to connect to two devices at once. And then it disconnected itself, and I've never been able to replicate.

Didn't even mention one of the craziest things about bluetooth: each phase of the wave can encode a different bit, meaning the top and bottom of the waveform aren't symmetrical but independent of eachother. This doubles the bitrate of the signal and manages not to skyrocket the fault rate enormously, which is truly some Nordic magic.

There is also a low bandwidth mode with like 21 different modes, I had to make a paper on Bluetooth and other stuff a while back. This is pretty well explained, interference is not really mentioned apart from "the 158 bluetooth devices in one room" analogy. Since the Wi-Fi signals also interfere with the Bluetooth signal/microwaves (a literal physical one), etc.

This was a very good video. I am an electrical engineer specifically working in signal processing and communication waveforms. Sometimes my job has me solve insane problems. Bluetooth is just the start. However it gets more complicated when you are talking to one moving object or two moving objects at insane speeds with high noise. Cell phone towers also can be very interesting but what is probably the most interesting is communication with space systems. Again you did a great job of explaining very simple concepts of digital communications.

Nice analogies. I’m an EE and was involved in developing a BT radio during its infancy in 1999. There is a LOT of science behind the technology (or any wireless technology) that just can’t be covered in a brief video.
