Kardavox Academy I know this song isn't metal but it is rock but it deserves your attention it is Seether: Drift Away but the lyric video by The Writer Wolf. It has had a huge impact on my life because it reminds me of my very mentally and physically abusive ex I would love if you did a reaction to it because I would love to see your reaction to it please.

Greetings, my friend! I'm from Russia and I managed to work out with Alex vocals at the time. there is one feature in the use of arytenoid cartilage. He lowers his larynx, lifts his tongue and to a greater extent blows his sound through tightly closed arytenoid cartilages, preventing false ligaments from vibrating as we are used to with a normal folcord. i completely agree with you on the subject of Alex's highs. Dude can sound like Mitch Luker if he wanted to with those highs. Shocked me for days after hearing Alex being able to hit those high screams. For sure he focuses more on those beefy deep screams as that's his specialty but like damn...i'd love to hear a track with more use of those highs he has stored away.

Hes always had these mannerisms when he does vocals even when he was sitting in his bedroom using google translate to talk to us english speaking fans and i was in junior high 🤣 i dont even think its performance, im sure part of it is but hes always been very pronounced, its like he uses his entire upper half to belt out these insane lows because its Especially noticeable with the lows (: but hey, maybe hes just a natural showman 🤷‍♂️

I am endlessly fascinated by how all the different vocal dynamics achieve what they do but have so much overlap. When performing sygyt very slight movements of the tongue change the tone and pitch and when I say slight I mean barely any movement. To get a deeper tone you slide the tongue towards the back of the mouth so it was really interesting to see you demonstrate that. I am curious what you think about or if you have any familiarity with metal vocal techniques where you draw air in, rather than breathing air out?

Big biiiig fan of AA and Alex. I see what you are saying but I think they are born from 2 different places. Johan is serious "stomach" in his low tones mostly from his natural speaking voice. Vs Alex where it seems more "chest" but inhumanely low and powerful. I dont think Johan messes with as many shapes in his mouth as Alex and I feel that's due to longevity of use.

Actually what you are seeing is the use of the diaphragm , it's in-between the stomach and the chest

@@Phil.Anthropy As a vocalist myself (mostly learned from this channel), I'm not sure what you mean about the difference between "stomach" and "chest". And where are you getting this information from? Johan definitely plays with less mouth shapes than Alex, but that's honestly just a stylistic difference between death metal and deathcore.
@Phil.Anthropy
@Phil.Anthropy 2 жыл бұрын
@@tevildo9383 it's like Prince and diaphragm. The dude was toned and abs galore running around on stage but the moment he would sing he would have a near beer gut look at points. Johan feels to me to be more down there. A low bellowing roar but contained. Alex is more explosive and dynamic in just presence that when he goes to yell or growl it seems or feels more in the chest. The "exertion of energy and pressure" portion of this video and the veins coming out of Alex you dont see much of live from Johan. Idk if either of these help my already rambled attempt. But let me know if not and I'll take another crack at it. Keep in mind I'm not saying what either is doing, just from body language and whatnot it feels this way. Be well

So my new 2 song playlist that I have playing on my way to tms is rotoscope and this. This... cover... original... coriginover? When he does the "softer" (lol) "do you really think I'm afraid of you" actually sort of helped made lows make sense to me. Because I feel (not that anyone but me will ever hear it) like I can actually (without discomfort) replicate that, which then makes going into it a bit harder, easier. Fortunately for me, no one I know personally, likes the music I like, so no one ever drives with me. Win/win

A very low tone at the end is when you run out of air. I don't know how it happens inside, but when you give a lot of air and don't have enough air until the end, it's like the cords (or something) relax from the tension and... It feels like some other version of sound extraction is enabled. But this is only my opinion, i'm not professional)

Do you suspect at least some of his power comes from the fact he’s ripped and just has that much more force to apply to the muscles below diaphragm? I’m afraid that in any case that kind of absurdly powerful roar requires some kind of over-projection to which he just has an atypical, natural resistance. I have trouble believing it’s just really good resonance and projection technique though he obviously has that too

I agree… I also find it funny that he doesn’t respond back to this comment. It’s pretty annoying when people try to explain something they don’t grasp or understand just to get some content out. The dude making this video sounds like a pig farm. Instead of just grunting around, try speaking some words when you do it.

@@alanwright782 I’m not trying to criticize mark. He has to make a living and if that involves some filler content in which he doesn’t claim to be doing anything new or exciting then that’s cool. I was just asking this question hoping he or someone might reply because it’s an interesting subject but again if Mark is busy being successful I can’t hate lol

I don't think it helps. Look at Will Ramos, he's fit but not very muscular. He can pull off some absolute insane tones but it doesn't correlate to his posture. Check out the video where they poked a camera down his throat while he performed and you'll see what I mean.
@adriantepesut

@@pocketpunch9920 will Ramos has insane tones but they’re not as loud or powerful as Alex’s lows at least from what I’ve seen. A lot of Alex’s perceived power comes from exceptional projection and resonance but I think he has just an undeniable loudness that i doubt is possible without some over- projection. Because I literally do not know how to even do something like that even with unsafe technique I’m guessing he can push more from diaphragm in a way that is over-projected but not immediately damaging which is why I guessed he has stronger abdominal muscles to push from. Another thing about will Ramos is he does mainly fry vocals which I don’t think you can push as hard with without hurting yourself immediately. Another possibility is that the pockets and spaces in his mouth and nasal tract where things resonate are just more cavernous or better shaped to do something like that which I think is what Mark suspects
@pocketpunch9920
@pocketpunch9920 2 жыл бұрын
@@adriantepesut there's a YT channel which, I forget the full name but it's extreme vocal coaching something. He breaks down a lot of vocalists techniques and explains how to recreate them. Alex is projecting hard, I know personally my lows only sound strong and resonant when I build volume and project too. Alex is a monster though, and rightfully so. He worked hard for a long time to develop his own style.

One way I found to achieve a very similar low tone is to actually tense the muscles right beneath the chin. That causes the soft tissues under the tongue to go down almost an inch of their normal position. By covering that space with the tongue (tongue is not moving) it seems to create a '' second '' resonance chamber where the first sound is filtered through it which seems to add a lower tone to the overall sound.

Man I'm so annoyed that acid reflux decease has absolutely ruined my growling "career" would love to do that shite but every time I do those sounds I know I can make today, it makes me cough because my throat is always screwed.... Oh and I know the throat isn't the place to manufacture all the sounds and I certainly didn't, but I swear it plays a part when your reflux acids f your throat up
