The non chord tones are a whole step above any note of the diminished chord, OR a half step below.

That 3-6 diminished sub makes me think: "Prelude To a Kiss" bridge! G#-7 -> Go7 -> F#-7 -> B7 -> E ... Thanks for pointing this out!

If the name is C diminished seven, the note could no be A, but B double flat. It is obvious.
