Our Chihuahua we had for 17 years took a chunk out a mortician. In his defense the undertaker was at my aunt's house to pick up my uncle and my aunt wanted me in there to make sure they wrapped him up properly. But that last bit of air left his body and made him look like he was still breathing. I almost fainted and the undertaker went to grab me and Romeo went up his pants leg and I was up at little local funeral home apologizing and Mr.Brown who owned the funeral home told me don't worry about it it's not the first or last his grandson was bit by a Chihuahua.

I've never had close experience with chihuahuas to comment on their intelligence. I've found them to be the most aggressive dogs toward be when out running, though. Partly from their own nature (VERY aggressive - until I turned around and they were all "I didn't mean it!". Back to running "Oh yeah you BETTER run!") and partly because I took them far less seriously than I did a loose Rottweiler or other large dog.

Rottweilers can be absolutely adorable. I met one on my route that was being walked by a small, middle-aged woman. Very sweet and gentle. :) I also delivered mail to a place with a Rottie. At first, the owners kept her tethered, so she'd just bark like mad, but then after telling me she was alright, I asked if she could get my scent. After that, she was just in the garden, and whenever I entered it, she'd come over to 'check my passport' as I liked to call it. Then she left as if to say: "Okay, you're cleared." I can understand being scared of Rotties and large dog breeds, but it's more important to check behaviour than breed, even if some breeds are statistically more dangerous than others.

The salesman didn't even look at the dogs because they were sitting silently, GSD at Mom's knee and Shiba with me and he knew nothing of canine body language. Both dogs were intensely alert and aware that we didn't welcome the salesman. They watched him fiercely, looked to me and Mom hoping we would signal them to defend us, and glanced at each other to confirm the battle plan. The Shiba was telling the GSD "If our humans say yes, you go high and I'll get his ankles. " The GSD's eyes answered, "Dude, I've got this. But if you want to tag along, go for the Achilles tendon." They were so dramatic, Mom and I collapsed in giggles when the fool left and our furbabies returned to Defcon 1. He never had a clue. I miss those dogs. It wasn't mail-related, though; he REALLY wanted to go look in the storm drain (it smelled weird) and we wouldn't let him. He got stuck under the fence and my mom had to help him get out. He had actually been secretly working on a tunnel under the fence for several days, it turned out; it was just all the way in the back corner of the backyard so no one could see it. Presumably because his two PREVIOUS attempts to dig under the fence failed because we kept filling in the partially-made tunnels with big rocks. We never did figure out what was in the storm drain that made it smell weird, by the way.

I just wanted to say that I LOVE the way you portray Rottie’s in your videos. People seem to think that they are scary and aggressive when actually they’re lazy and scared of a lot of stuff. Mine is scared of feathers ffs. And won’t get out of bed until her cat friend gets up which could be after 10am sometimes. Lazy af. Oh, and she has no concept or personal space. I could be going to the loo and she there. She comes on the school run too. She’s also a therapy dog and I take her to hospitals and schools. Total love bugs. Thank you for making these awesome videos xx

These were lovely. As a former owner of a schnauzer standard that have two friends one with a mini and one with a giant... I can tell you that each of them sizes are quite different in character. The giants are clumsy gentle Giants, the minis are hyperactive bundles of dynamite, and the standard, at least mine, was very quiet and fond of sneak attacks... story time: one time my uncle came home to visit. We couldn't meet at my house until quite late,but he had the keys (long story) so he went to my house left to buy something to eat then came back. And locked the door. The house is pitch black until you switch the light. The moment my uncle locked the door he felt something hurting his right arm. It was my pet. It seems that I had left him inside and he decided until what he perceived as a robber was locked in to attack. Both my uncle and my dog were okay. Afterwards

I see the aggressive chihuahua trope a lot. It really surprises me. Since the majority of chihuahuas I've been around are really people friendly. They do tend bark but most of the time they don't bite. Even with the aggressive chihuahuas I've met it usually takes a firm no and just standing your ground to get them to stop. I did get attacked by one that wouldn't stop but that one was legitimately feral. I think it's because due their small size their behavior isn't taken seriously.

Seek the dog whose activity level (high energy vs couch potato), IQ (smart and not so), and personality (chihuahuas have very strong opinions and labradors are very easy going) matches yours. Mutts can be great too. Adopting an older dog is a great introduction to dogs because they're usually house trained and shelter personnel often are very helpful with info about a specific dog, especially in a no kill shelter. As a new owner of a puppy you must let your dog out immediately after waking up and eating to relieve itself (also bedtime) and you should attend obedience school with your dog ASAP. It is priceless in teaching you how dogs reason (it's not the same).

Just adding to all the great info already shared. There are online tests that help you know which breeds fit with you, besides the personality, energy and IQ, you have to mind the space you live in. I have a bulldog princess and that’s the level of activity I can manage 😂. Also, make sure you understand what you want your dog to be to you. Do you want companionship or protection? Family or just for you? It’s difficult to have a guarding dog that will seat peacefully in a family gathering.
@madmadammeag51419 ай бұрын
You also need to take into account weather or not you have allergies, or if anyone you're close to, like a partner, has them. If so, adopting from a shelter won't be an option for you because you can't guarantee the breed.
