The world of Reign of Fire is Desolate and unforgiving. Dragons have been uncovered hibernating underneath London and essentially bring about the apocalypse. The menacing beasts are highly evolved prehistoric creatures that laid dormant beneath the surface of the earth for thousands of years.
The dragons that we had once thought were myths concocted by our ancestors, had in fact been responsible for wiping out the dinosaurs. With the earth covered in ash, they slept, waiting for their food source to replenish. For millennia, they slumbered deep beneath the surface of the earth until a construction crew awoke the ancient nightmares, releasing them onto our world once again.
Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained, and as voted for by you guys in our latest poll, today, we’re exploring Reign of fire.

With the studios constantly using old propertys instead of coming up with fresh ideas, your ideas would be perfect. They wouldn't have to buy new movie rights and it would be quite unique. It would be easy better than game of thrones ended up.

This film is pretty underrated if you ask me. Having grown up in the 80's and 90's, I was never really impressed with dragons on the big screen; they all looked fake. But these dragons looked and moved like they were real, and they were terrifying. To this day I still think this is the [visually] best depiction of dragons put to screen. Smaug was impressive but sometimes his skin looked like it was made out of clay and it kinda looked like he was smiling a lot of times. Game of Thrones certainly improved a bit they didn't seem, _quite_ as menacing as the dragons in Reign of Fire. Whenever I think of dragons, these are the ones I think of.

100% agree. I always loved dragons but thought they had pretty weak portrayals in movies. But when I saw this in the early 2000's with my buddy - I was blown away by the entire production. Seeing the dragons with these giant holes in their wings and still be able to fly with ease was one of the coolest details I think I've ever seen anyone add to them

You didn't like Dragonheart? The sequels are crap and the CGI of the original is heavily dated now but that was a lovely dragon movie I encountered in the nineties. Noting like Dragon world. That was cool as child but cringe now haha.
@elbryan9
@elbryan9 2 жыл бұрын
@@fonztorres No I loved Dragonheart actually. But the dragon doesn't look very realistic nor did it have the ferocity of the dragons in Reign of Fire. And if dragons were real, it's highly unlikely they would talk. It was a good movie, but I prefer the realistic portrayal of Reign of Fire.

You hit the nail on the head man. Reign of Fire has its own cult following for being one of if not THE best portrayals of Dragons on film ever. Without this movie paving the way, we wouldn't have Dragons as we do now. I'll never forget watching RoF for the first time being absolutely enthralled by the beauty of the dragons. Phenomenally Underrated movie.

Another possibility for the dragons: They could be somewhat like clownfish, or aphids: some combo between parthenogenesis and hermaphroditism. where they can change their sex with regards to the presence of a male. All the females can give birth to clones of themselves (similar to aphids) and they only breed with the one male for genetic diversity (kind of like bees/aphids) Perhaps if a male dies, then another female can change her sex into a male to mate with the others (similar to clown fish) (I’m just spitballing genetics into the fiction world) Or who knows…. ALIENS!!!

The problem with that theory is that when the male died, all of the females died too It makes me wonder if the females had extremely short lifespans At the end of the movie, narration from Alex (Christian Bale's character) says there hasn't been a dragon sighting in three months. The don't say how long it has been since the male died but it DOES imply that the females have very short lifespans if there were millions of them before the male died

This is one of my favourite movies from my childhood. Whilst I do love the more intelligent and compassionate interpretations of dragons such as Sapphira from Eragon or Draco from Dragohherat, their ability to be utilised as truely terrifying monsters is really under-utilised in modern film making and writing. I would love to see more of this sort of thing. These dragons scared me as a kid and I love them for it!

I absolutely loved this movie! The gritty scenes of hopeless survival fit really well in the context of the world that had been established in the narrative. The scene where they re-enact Star Wars for the kids, while campy in its own way, is really believable. Sure, how the tanks were brought to England is kind of hand-waved away. But the looks on everyone's faces when the helicopter comes into scene and it's something in the sky other than a dragon is genuine. Honestly? It's one of those movies I suggest to people as something that wasn't quite a blockbuster, but should have been.

This is a film I still think about all the time and I still listen to Mad At Gravity. Way too many films from the early 2000's are underrated yet pushed the limits.

Ah the nostalgia! I forgot about this movie. My dad and I saw it in theaters. We loved it. And most of the effects still hold up. Thank you for reminding me of this underrated gem.

Completely underrated film. Would’ve been nice to see the time the male dragon went around wreaking havoc, and the species slowly taking over everything leading up to Bale’s character grown up and having his castle settlement

I happened upon this film on KZfaq about 10 years ago and was amazed by more than a few of the effects at the time (only a few cause my 12 year old mind couldn’t comprehend how amazing the film over all was) and after having recently rewatched the film and seen this video, it has cemented for me that this is one of if not the best live action dragon film to date

I loved Reign of Fire, it's one of my favourite Post-Apocalyptic films of all time and I always thought the Dragons looked awesome and the effects still stand up today. One of my favourite scenes is when they recreat Star Wars for the kids, it's really funny and Heartwarming. 👍👍❤️❤️🔥😎
