Krystal was the 'aesthetic' before aesthetic was a thing. Esp during the time when she was thriving as an idol, you can see how different she is from the average female idol. She didn't go along with cute styles that female idols always have to spot, but instead stayed true to herself. Even up until now, you can tell she never changed herself or her style to fit netizen's expectations. My bias was Sulli back then (god I miss them both so much 🥺) but Krystal always gave the girl crush energy and I can't help adoring her & her style. She didn't try too hard and what's better is that she invented the girl crush concept just by staying true to herself. I love her mysterious aura too. Ralph Lauren did a really good job in making her the brand ambassador. she is the epitome of an 'old money' and everything that Ralph Lauren represents. F(x) got me into kpop and its sad that the group was short-lived but to this day, f(x) and krystal remains iconic.

the "krystal effect" was so real like, it was because of f(x), girl groups started wearing tennis skirts, during rum pum pum pum era and it was labeled as "krystal skirt" and also during 4 walls era, the another "krystal pants" came in. literally the blueprint. and mind you that this all happened without the power of big social medias. krystal was that iconic.

People have mentioned SNSD Yoona, MissA Suzy, After School Nana, f(x) Sulli, AOA Seolhyun, IU, and Apink Naeun. However, if their were a top 3 or 4, they would be Suzy Yoona, Krystal, and IU. In terms of who was the most popular in Korea then maybe Suzy or IU. In China, maybe Yoona was the most popular. However, Krystal was very popular everywhere in Asia. Which was especially praiseworthy since her group wasn’t as popular as SNSD, Miss A, or IU. Anything Krystal wore back then became a hot topic. They use to do this variety show where people would vote on who was the best in different categories. Krystal stayed in the top 5 for most things that included visuals, body proportions, fashion, and idols with most fanboys/fangirls. She took the top spot several times, even after she stopped promoting with f(x). Jessica was one of the idols that started the trend of airport fashion. Krystal was an idol that popularized it so much that anytime she went to the airport, her clothing choices would be in the news the next day. While promoting Rum pum pum pum, tennis skirts became extremely popular and was called the “Krystal Skirt.” The same kind of thing happened with dyeing her hair red and blond. People would start copying her and it became known as the “Krystal effect.” There were a lot of idols getting CFs but not many were attracting fashion houses. Krystal was one of the few Korean celebrities that got brand deals in fashion and stayed in magazines modeling for different brands. If Kpop would have had the same reach it does now back then, Krystal probably would have had the same level of success of Jennie/Wonyoung. I mean she’s already pretty accomplished in the fashion world despite being and idol during a time where social media platforms like Instagram, and the western interest in Kpop didn’t exist. I believe in terms of what the “it girls” of the 3rd and 4th generation are, Krystal is the best “OG It girl” to represent their blueprint. She was a young, beautiful, talented, and fashion focused idol that people loved and hated at the same time. That’s basically how every it girl starts out, then their charisma and uniqueness made them very popular. Let’s also remember she was quite the successful actress during that time as well, especially when she was filming the heirs in 2013. So she basically had everything required to be an it girl: talent, enviable body proportion, top tier visual, center, fashion darling, trend setter, actress, and having that luxurious Ice princess aura. I maybe a little biased since she is my bias in f(x), but if you look at the facts objectively I still think the it girls of now are more similar to Krystal than any other it girl during the second gen.

The new KPop fans may not have an idea about how popular she was during her idol days, she as an individual and also her group f(x) started tumblr-ish aesthetics which is still prevalent. She was one of the first KPop idols I stanned and even after all these years, I'm always at awe by her (personality, looks, style). Can't help but feel like this video just came on in perfect timing. Nowadays, I see newer Kpop fans just throw around the term it girl/boy so recklessly everywhere, lol. I was never a big Krystal fan myself, I'm only a casual listener of F(x) songs and my bias was Sulli, but I could never deny Krystal indeed being an icon and a certified it girl. Yes she definitely was. I could be wrong but it seems like she's one of the first to rock blazers for casual outfits, as well as the tennis skirt and button-down shirt before it became the norm. Definitely a trendsetter. I'd say Krystal and Jennie are probably the only ones who could influence and set trends on a large scale. No this is not to bring down any other idols or celebrities, it's just what i personally think based what I've seen. If you think your bias or other celebrities have more influence in the fashion world, it's totally valid too since we're exposed to different news etc.

I don’t think newer stans understand Krystal’s effect in like 2012-2015. She literally brought back pencil skirts during f(x)’s rumpumpum promotions in Korea. Like it sold out and she went viral. Constantly high ranking among other idols during the polls where other idols would vote for their #1 pick. Even the world renown ice skater, Kim Yunq, complimented her. Krystal got a lot of hate but tried her best in a lot of things. The amount of hate she got made her scared of people, it was slightly mentioned during the airing of Jessica and Krystal.

You can see her personality in the reality show with Jessica. She's actually fun, laid back and just introverted. Back then, Krystal was on the top, like some untouchable elite. And if you look at Jennie, the IT girl of all the IT girls right now, you can see the similarity.

She was *the* fashion icon of kpop idols. Everything she did spread across the industry like fire, and it seemed like every magazine and clothing brand wanted her in their photos. On top of all that, she had some of the best stage performance out of all female idols. You can still see the way she inspired Min Hee Jin, and how that influenced HYBE.

Yeah, I mean she got a lot of hate, I’ve been a fan since the Chu era in 2009, them being my first group. But I do recall that Krystal was the biggest name in comments under their videos. Which, don’t get me wrong I love Krystal, she’s is very talented and pretty, but I always thought she was overhyped. I felt Luna, the singer, dancer, stage and tv actress (I think she did voice work too) was the idol who really should be the standard of K-pop. From being in musicals to being the only member to sing over the music in Red Light (which is a feat for any singer) to literally singing Pretty Girl in that SM musical alone and pretty much slayed it to now being on Broadway, I mean it’s very weird that a well rounded idol is barely praised. Like she was an SM idol and they couldn’t keep her? I feel they would have been more successful if f(x) wasn’t blacklisted from their company (which is the big reason they stopped). Well and solo projects as well. All I’m saying is Luna is one of the best idols who I feel can’t thrive, because being pretty is more accepted nowadays than an actual talented idol.
