Getting to ride the Little Miami Scenic Trail for a day trip out of Cincinnati was rad. It gave me many flashbacks from bike-touring the Ohio to Erie Trail. The new route out of Cinci is fantastic - game changer for this bike path. I changed up my plans for the day and decided to race my driver(girlfriend) to a spot where I wouldn't inconvenience her with the pick up. Another great day on the bicycle!

Spontaneous tours are always the best! I love riding rail trails, too. It´s the perfect elevation profile for riding a fixed gear. I am more than a little envious, though: over here in Germany you´d be lucky to find 25km (15 miles) of continuous trails like that. Most rail trails are just short segments.

It's always interesting to see what people think of the hometown. The new bridge over the Little Miami River at Beechmont Levi is about a year old. I didn't realize the OTET signage around Lunken airport and the new bridge was inadequate . Probably because I ride it so often I don't pay attention. The Grandin Road/Cartridge Factory construction is going on two years. But as you note, if you go through on weekends or lunchtime, no one is working. Maybe it'll be done this year. The official detour seems to have been designed by someone who hates cyclists. The route is on busy, fast roads without a shoulder. There are nicer alternatives; consult Strava or Ride With GPS heat maps. The Little Miami Scenic Trail is currently closed thru May, 2024 at Loveland to replace a bridge over O'Bannon Creek. There's no official detour but you can go a few blocks to route OH 48 and back to the trail on Cones Rd. I'm impressed you made it as far as Xenia! There are at least four breweries between downtown and Loveland 🙂
@TimFitzwater
@TimFitzwater 9 ай бұрын
I hear you on the signage - since the Ohio to Erie also comes through my town I try to look at it asa tourist. We don't have any OTET signs - they expect you to know the Towpath is the route. Of course it is easy for me - but always point confused looking bike packers in the right direction if I see them. We made a pretty good detour the last time we did the OTET three years ago - it was climby but that doesn't really bother us - hills over busy, commercial roads any day. You surprised I rode that far because of the miles or because I resisted the 3 other beer stops?!🤣

Just binge watched your ride from DC to Pittsburg, then this. I’m in Cincy area just across the river in KY. It’s funny watching another rider mentally process the trails I ride often. I was rooting for you to ignore the detour sign, while you were having a beer at Cartridge. On weekends no workers are there. Great videos. As to the question, new trails or old trails. I subscribe to the philosophy that nothing is ever the same if you pay close attention. Every minute is a minute we have yet to live and we should be open to what it brings. I was on the trail yesterday and saw a bald eagle by the Clear Creek soccer fields. That was a definite first. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and thought that was a huge vulture as it landed. I was rewarded for stopping to look closer.

Well that was 27.56 minutes well spent. Living in a mountain foothill community, I can't bike two miles out & back from my house without getting at least 500 feet elevation gain and average 1.5k per ride, which is great because it's built up my climbing ability. But for the past year, I've been considering picking up a decent ebike to commute around town.

Love your videos Tim, being a life long lover of cycling, and often wondered (particularly pre you tube) if travelling in other countries by bike would be scary, dangerous, or possibly even better than than tootling around the country lanes in England. I think it can be all of them! Same old route or new ones? I like a mixture, the known route means I get as far away as I can from major roads, new routes need a little more planning to do this. Route planning with a brewery stop? Now you are really on to something! Cheers!
