This isn't just a review. For those of us that bought this bike and felt like they were going crazy only getting 40 miles out of charge. This video adds sanity to the crazy 200 mile range. 100% agree with everything you said. It's a fun bike, but they need to change their range claims. 15mph = 200miles / 30mph = 60miles / 50mph = 30miles is more realistic.

Also keep in mind that batteries are graded. Like usually vape batteries are like a B+ or abouts. The high grade A+ batteries are usually sent to companies with high end product’s… like a battery pack for a cordless Dyson vacuum or something. Obviously they used high end batteries (and other components) when this ebike broke the world record. But for $6600 is just insane and just using the world record as a cash grab. The one thing I like about this is the bike has good size… I’m 6’3 205/lbs and I’m having a hard time finding a bike that fits my frame

@@bobbyspain905 Then they should obviously state that to consumers who are oblivious to things that are NOT obvious to people who don't understand such things... Don't ya think, Mr. S? It really comes back to total disclosure. To being, you know, honest. People who have no clue how things work simply hear what the producers of the thing says the thing does. They rely on these producers to inform them, educate them. In a dishonest world, this does not happen. Fortunately, we who are oblivious have the Inja to make what is not obvious, obvious.

Guiness, who run the records book, started out in the UK where the legal max speed for an ebike is 15.5mph, the same speed as the entirety of Europe (25kmh). So a speed based on the maximum legal for a vehicle to be classed as EPAC (the ebike class, rather than the moped class) is entirely fair and reasonable. Under the classification of the country where they are based, and all of Europe, a vehicle is only truly an ebike if it has a max motor power of 250w, has no throttle that eliminates the need for pedalling to reach speed, and has a max speed of 25kmh / 15.5mph. Anything above that is a electric moped, or electric motorcycle not an ebike. Many states in the US have a legal speed limit of 20mph for an ebike to not need a moped/motorcycle license and registration, tax and vehicle insurance.

I'm skeptical that they even got 200 miles at 15mph if it only gets 40 miles at 30 to 50 mph, only way I can think is maybe they used non standard wheels / tyres, indoors therefore no wind, temperature at 25C. Super smooth surface, I know they used a velodrome.

@fnorgen
@fnorgen Жыл бұрын
@@ash0787 I don't think you appreciate just how much of a brick wall air resistance really is. The aerodynamic drag force increases with the square of the velocity, so if you double your speed you will burn 4 times the energy to push air over the same distance. So getting a little over 4 times the range at 15mph vs 30-50mph is perfectly reasonable. Not that it really matters though. Any decent cyclist could comfortably maintain such a relaxed speed on flat terrain all day with no electric assist. Range estimates for e-bikes just gets really dumb since real world results are extremely influenced by local conditions and riding styles.

No vehicle in the history of the world meets the range claims EVER, batterie powered vehicles are even worse, the voltage drop from 25% to 50% throttle doesn't double, it might quadruple,and people dropping 7k on a bike without doing a little research are fucking idiots, so is this guy taking an ELECTRIC PEDAL ASSISTED BICYCLE, which is a BICYCLE that you PEDAL effortlessly because of PEDAL ASSIST, and thinking it's a "dirt bike ". the manufacturer states all over the internet the record was achieved at 15mph ,but let's disregard that and ask for 100 miles at full throttle. Some people shouldn't be allowed to post on the internet

but if thats the case then this is still the most range you can get out of any ebike why? cause with all things being equal and everyone would ride their ebike to its max power consumption then all those range claims by other manufacturers with less numbers would even go less than they claimed. if delfast can realistically only go for about 40 mi in 50 mph then the other ebikes can only go for like 10-20miles tops on max speed. In that case, this bike still gives you the longest range by ratio compared to almost all ebikes. but i truly appreciate the very honest review.

I have an electric bike not nearly as powerful as that one. Mine does as advertised if you read between lines of said advertised range. I live in a lot hills and 15 miles from work and ride to work at least 3 times a week. Between line advertising, 30 mile round trip I get home with little under half of the battery left sometimes less, using psa and me pedaling the whole way. My bike claims 60 mile range. So I can see 60 miles plus if like you said if I kept it at 15mph or less. Using throttle only which I've never done would not give me much range at all. The delfast is quite impressive.

As a lot said, appreciate the real world ride review, makes sense given the size battery the Delfast has (If I remember it was a 72V 20amp hour). I went with a Huck Stinger3000 at $6k, at the time it was the biggest battery I saw (72V 50amp hour) I got almost 80 miles on it when I "Real world tested it mix between road and bike lanes" which was a blast, but those last 15 miles was on low battery the whole time giving me range anxiety but still went strong and pushing 45mph at the last 5 miles. Now I saw online custom batteries for it (72V 75amp hour). My hope is they develop a better battery/power source sometime in my prime time. These bikes are a real blast, but damn they are expensive, but I'm really thankful I was able to get one and enjoy it for a 50 mile run every once in awhile because I have family and job that occupies most of my day so to squeeze out 2 hours of open road what else can a guy ask for.

Complete disappointment in the manufacturer's range quote. You are right, range specifications should be done at every 10 miles increment (10mph, 20mph, 30mph, 40mph, etc., then top speed range). But Delfast, unlike all other e-bike manufacturers, did get right what most consumers want, that long range capability and the belt drive. Now they just need to convince BYD to sell them their Blade battery so the e-bike can be charged on the road at an auto charger. This way we can use the e-bike for cross-country bikepacking. Imagine not having to bust your ass going against the wind or uphill on a bikepacking trip. Or not needing to use your car everywhere you go.

You just described exactly the figure Delfast provides you based on those parameters. They say 200 miles. (Obviously that's probably without any load and perfect road conditions, tested in their laboratory. Haha)

If that little mole hill was 1 foot longer you wouldn't have made it. I think trail riding for too long might burn that weak-ass hub motor up in short order. That bike looks like a dirt bike but is really intended for city commuting. Nice honest review!!

Mirrors, same ones I bought and from China’s favourite mall, they don’t last if you swivel them often (to get out the gate that’s essential). Voltage sag is awful. I’m running 63amp max @ 45mph 72km/h and don’t see anywhere near that sag only 2 volts max. The controller sounds cheap, not a sine wave controller. Far better out there from Vector or Eleek. Ever want help buying one let me know.

I mean it does take a lot more energy to go faster. I have a Tesla P85 from 2013. I have only really range tested it in the cold and there's a big difference between going say 55 and 70. At a steady cruise doing 55 over the course of 15 miles I averaged about 3.8 miles per kilowatt. If I could keep that up that would be 292 mi which would be above the normal standard range. I did do it with the heat and seat heater off just to maximize it, but even with them I get about 3.2 mi per kilowatt which would have still been 246 mi range. If I bump my speed up to 70 and cruise at that I lose 25%+ of my range. I go from 3.8 kilowatts to 2.8 with no AC or heat and probably 2.3 with. That means at 70 I can go between 177 to 215 miles. I even did a trip recently where I drove 150 miles at 70 throughout in 25° weather with the heater on at 78°. I left with 100% and 150 miles later I was at like 12% at my destination and had to charge. I do agree that all ranges even for cars should be done a different speeds. I believe Tesla tests theirs at 55 or 60 miles an hour to get their range. The EPA does it slightly differently and so does the European group. But I would love it if Tesla would step up and do speed testing at say 35, 45, 55, 65, 75, and published those results. Because I know at like 35 I can get over 4 miles per kilowatt at a steady state. Also I think the battery is in a lot of these things should either be bigger to maximize capacity or in this example where they had a 200 mile range I think they should get rid of the battery and have a super capacitor option. If you can get like 40 mi range with a super capacitor everybody would be fine with that. Because they can get to where they are going plug it up and charge it as quick as possible.

Tire pressure makes a massive difference, if you're cruising on the freeway at a steady 70mph you could easily get away with adding another 15 psi to each tyre.
@custommotor

@@ianmangham4570 Not really. The tires on a Telsa are already nearing the max pressure. With 21in rims you set at 42psi and with 19in rims you set at 45psi. The tires are only rated for 52psi cold.

to be fair, its currently not physically possible to make electric bikes of any kind perform the same as a traditional motorcycle also considering that in most places you can't go over 20 to 28 mph on an ebike, I'd say 15ish mph is about how fast most people are going to go

Idk how people thought they could do 200 miles @50mph. Anyone who knows anything about ebikes should know better. How many ebike companys claim 8 hours of battery but realisticly it's 4 or lower if pushed? Like all of em! Most bikes of this size can only do 10-20 miles @50mph so it's still a win.

Honda Monkey or Grom is cheaper by thousands of dollars, gas on that will be like 4-7$ for like 160-200 mile range. Even if we factor in insurance(for me that's about 30$ USD/month) I'm pretty sure that still comes out cheaper(over 5 years of ownership), more reliable, and can do mostly the same things that ebike can(or all if you're willing to break some laws lol)

This thing has 48ah in it. There is just no logical way in the real world where this works, at all. My friend bought a stealth bomber frame and built it up, it does 80mph (yea, really), has a 12kw rear motor and a 70ah battery. He gets 100 miles reliably and he does 30-40 mph. Thats realistic range, with a 72v 70ah battery. For anyone wondering the batt fills out the entire stealth bomber frame and he made it custom for it to perfectly fit in there so thats the maximum you can have in the formfactor.

The ebike I ride uses a BBSHD 1000W mid-drive with 1.34h.p. 150Nm using 58.8V (full charge) 35Ah 2058Wh lithium batteries. It's an "ebike", not an electric motorcycle, but an actual ebike using the American 2002 CPSA definition so it can be ridden anywhere in America that bikes are allowed, with no tax, no license, tabs, or insurance. My maximum speed has been 47 mph, not the bike's top speed just the fastest I have ridden it. Speed definitely affects the range, the faster you go the shorter the range just like with an ICE. What's not being taken into account here is that lithium batteries degrade much faster when fully charged and fully depleted. WAY faster. Using only 65% of the pack's capacity can extend the number of recharge cycles significantly, from approx. 500 to as many as 1400. The battery is an expendable component and expensive, overly expensive on production ebikes, and proprietary so usually you have to use their packs. Couple that with cheap low-end chargers that only charge batteries to 100% capacity and the range becomes more than an exaggerated stat used for sales. My personal maximum range on my ebike has been 117 miles over 10 hours, with an average speed of 11 mph, and an average moving speed of 19 mph on 80% of the pack's capacity. - photos.app.goo.gl/ADgC6oyPM2gyrCq27 The title here is misleading since the electric motorcycle he's riding isn't an ebike anymore than the motorcycle helmet he's wearing is a bike helmet. That's a tactic manufacturers use to sell their products to uninformed consumers. He couldn't ride (legally ride) in about 80% of the places I do.

There could be something wrong with the battery. The voltage sag doesn't sound normal given the Ah specs, and given the broken power button and wonky rear view mirror, it wouldn't be surprising if the lithium sucked, too.
