I usually don't disagree with you much, @Pythagoras but I do in this case. Your analysis, to be fair, briefly mentions his intelligence but not enough. His awareness of space, off-the-ball runs, positioning in the half-spaces, and dragging formations out of shape are sublime. He also does have a solid engine, is exceptionally press-resistant and is tactically and positionally very smart. Positional discipline is so important and this guy seems to play where the manager wants (as evidenced by the different roles he executed under Brighton and Di Zerbi). This player absolutely elevates Liverpool. Last season we saw the ball given away all-to-often leaving attackers flying at an unsettled defensive shape. With how many direct passers are already in the team, technical controllers who can reliably bring the ball out in the first and second phases (negating the opposition's press) and then can help facilitate sustained pressure bring much needed balance and control. Klopp's "Heavy Metal Football" has long been tempered with control and sustained pressure. This aint Dortmund 14/15

Klopp controls games with counter pressing generally, MacAllister doesn't suit that style as much as someone like Gini, will still do well though and will be an upgrade on Thiago.

The Pythagoras guy just like talking crap, that’s how he downplayed Szoboszlai on one of his videos, salty Manu fan, this guy bossed that useless Bruno Fernandes and made Casemiro look a clown in that match, saying McAllister is intelligent but he doesn’t think he can go on to be a success at a big club😂😂, at Liverpool he’d get Diaz and Robertson making continuous overlapping runs and he’d play them in comfortably.

He would suit liverpool as a Thiago replacement. Mac Allister is the perfect hybrid between Thiago & Gini so i can see him being a good 8 there. If Liverpool get Ugarte as well who would be a similar profile of player to Caicedo at Brighton, i think that would further bring out the best of Mac Allister and he would continue his development to a World Class level (70+).

Thiago’s major issue was fitness but he is an world class technician in the vintage La Masia mould. He could control & dictate games- AMA is really not that level, sadly, even if he is much more reliable in his fitness. I’m really not sure about this signing. If he’s not accompanied by other mid signings who offer power, pace, dominance in 1v1, consistent ball-winning ability etc, then I’m very worried our major issues still go un-rectified for year another season. Bellingham was the perfect fit and Liverpool absolutely dropped the ball 😶

He’s a literal upgrade on every CM liverpool have bar Thiago - who will start about 10/15 games if we’re lucky. To come to the conclusion “I don’t see what he’d bring to liverpool” is wild. Considering we’ve just gone through a season of Milner/Elliot/Jones being heavily relied upon more than we should have. Overall though good balanced video, it’s encouraging to know he excels in crosses from the left, especially as robbo won’t have as much license to bomb forward if Trent continues that inverted role.

He just dropped a master class against Man U yesterday . Klopp is very sure and firm on whom he wants to buy. While the price tag and his profile speculates some doubt , Klopp's liverpool have made a series of transfers that have worked wonders for the team. Seeing his performance last game and the world cup,I think he is a late bloomer and people are yet to see his best .This is his breakout season at 24 and he hadnt caught anyone's eye before the world cup. I believe Liverpool have a clear plan as he is their priority signing. For now, his composure and elite press resistance would be a sound addition in the midfield but with a hefty price

He played half the season as a DM., in a double pivot. That's warps your data. Argentina and Messi loved him. But you don't? Brighton started him, and he was one of their standout players, both in the DM and AM, but you don't rate him? Comedy. He's smart, he plays the pass before the assist, keeps the ball, disciplined, he's your secondary playmaker, water carrier. Oh and he's a starting choice midfielder for the World Champions..... and I'm going to keep coming back every time he proves that you have no idea what you are talking about.

He's been playing as DM for Liverpool so far this season and if you just go by the 'eye test' he doesn't look like a competent DM but when you look at his actual statistics he's a top 3 DM in the league so far this season and it's not even his preferred position. Not to mention Liverpool is very much in a title race with him as the primary DM so that's worth noting. Personally though I'm hoping we buy a proper DM in January so we can move him away from the 8, or at least play him in a double pivot like he was played at Brighton.

@@higurk Well, i think Iniesta was one of the greatest, no doubt. Scholes was awesome as well, but he failed to deliver on his national team (that whole golden generation fell flat imho). @@Juaniguitarra86 not scholes fault he was shifted out wide to the left when he played with lampard and Gerrard cause of the backwards belief in England that bigger powerful players trump shorter players whennhe could actually dictate a game. Not sure I see Iniesta in his play style tbh. And comparing him to one of the greatest midfielders of all time....don't see what that brings. He's not anywhere near Iniesta. Different players imo. Scholes.....not sure either. I think he's potentially a better, bigger Leon Osman! I,e, he arguably has similar technique but more strength and power, while playing that ball-moving game very well when supported by more physical, faster players. That's no insult imo, Osman was class and for me one of the most underrated players in the last few decades.. But he's just not anything like a Scholes or Iniesta for me. I think those are just names people bring up because they are more famous. Maybe Jack Wilshere is a better comparison, who like Osman I think is physically inferior to MacAllister but similar in skill and playing style, with untapped potential.

Perhaps MacAllister's through balls and lack of final ball numbers in goal lead ups are diminished by Brightons lack of world class attacking players. Certainly Mitoma has been a huge threat this past season, but outside of him there isn't the same threat going forward that perhaps the speed of Luis, Nunes and Salah could offer MacAllister in the Liverpool team. Of course Liverpool have other good passers of the ball so it won't rely entirely on MacAllister to create chances.

I think you're underrating him massively. He's improving so much so quickly, you've kind of just assumed he will stay like his brighton career for the next 5 years. Hes more likely to be a bit better than he has been for the last 6 or 8 months and he has been exceptional this season. He suits Liverpool down to the ground too with his versatility, I do agree you'll need to add a runner to that midfield however

As a Liverpool fan, I'm not competely sold on him. Liverpoool's best teams have a high intensity, gegenpressing approach. I don't think he's physically capable. What he does have which would be a great asset is finding a good ball through a packed defence. Liverpool's front three is probably the best in the country but teams set up shop and leave very little space and our current midfielders lack the ability to find that killer pass. Jones is currently playing in that position and he's got virtually no vision. Henderson on the other side is more industrious but he's not known for finding killer passes in space. Thiago is an amazing player but he's injured a lot and I can't see him being a regular starter next season. Trent in the current role is not short pass player. He's probably the best in Europe and hitting a ball 50 yards with amazing accuracy. And the quoted 70m for Mac Allister is probably 30m too much. I would be surprised if Liverpool coughed up half the transfer funds for him. Still, rather have him over Mount.

@@padraighally7972 Our scouts probably know every single player out there. Why are other clubs finding these players and we're not? Brighton in particular have been finding some brilliant players. Southampton before that. Yes, we have some bargains like Diaz but it would be nice if we actually got them at 20/21 for peanuts instead of such huge amounts. Even if they don't make it, we can still sell them. How did we let a player like Bellingham slip through the net? Probably because we wouldn't pay the 25m Dortmund paid for him. Even Haaland. Why didn't we go all out to get him at Red Bull? I'd be surprised if we were prepared to pay 70m for Mac Allister. We still need two more midfielders, a centre half and possibly a right back. We will probably offer 25m and a buy back clause knowing us! 😄

Love these videos & particularly interested in this one as my team (LFC) have been linked with MacAllister. With LFC’s change information over the last few games with TAA inverting to form a box midfield, I do believe MacAllister would be a good fit for one of the #8/#10 roles. Him behind the front three probing & prompting, whilst offering a goal threat as well seems very good on paper. My one concern is that he might lack the intensity to ply in a Klopp team. for the Liverpool one, i think rather than buy a new right back, Liverpool should buy some defensive left back(centre-back in left back position) to accommodate defensive covers. Trent could stay at the right back with free role. i know that Trent has now improved his close control and dribbling, but putting him on the right back makes him harder to mark. Luis Diaz(and Mohammed Salah rn) likes to stay wide. So if Liverpool want Marc allister, they could put him in left-centre mid and buy one box-to-box midfield and a cover for fabinho. but i prefer more Ryan gravenbech actually

That Roberson side is also worrying a little bit. Team is still trying to adapt to the new roles. Mo is mostly touching at side when it should be Hendo they really need to replace him. They need to go LCB like Inacio or Hincapie both will have a good sense of when to go forward or not. I think Allister & Barella would be a good combo. Getting Ugarte should be on top of the agenda for them Fab has lost some legs.

Yeah if Liverpool are staying with the box midfield then 90% of the time Trent is going to be the player progressing the game. I think we should be looking for a pure ball winner who's neat and tidy to play the 6 role, a Ugarte or Palhinha would be perfect imo.

@omaralmoaibed4190 Жыл бұрын
I actually think they should sign Timber (who can play RB/CB and DM), a ball winning midfielder like Ugarte to replace Fabinho, and Gravenberch which is more versatile. This way they can transition Arnold into midfield permanently and play Timber in RB. In the current play-style they are overdependent on Arnold and a fast and strong CB (Konate) being available, which will not be the case all season long.

liverpool don’t need someone to get loads of g/a from midfield, we have trent and robbo who are our best playmakers. We just need midfielders who are good at pressing and can’t retain the ball, they can play the ball off to our fullbacks or forwards to create goals, i’d rather someone like him than a traditional attacking midfielder who’s all about going forward

Thiago has 1 year left and he's old and he's regularly injured so MA is an important useful signing. With FAR superior attackers in front of him he will start using his ability to make killer passes WAY more than he's done at Brighton. His press resistance and ball retention are SUCH valuable assets with the super High Line that we play with and for slowing the game down when we've got a comfortable lead. IF he can add 10 goals a season on top of all that we're back contending for the EPL and the final point is he's ONLY 24 and he's improved SO much in these last 2 years, to give an example he went from not even making the SQUAD for Argentina's Copa America victory to putting in the best midfielder performance in the WC final and assisting Di Maria for that 2nd goal. He's ONLY going to get better and better. By the time he's 27 and truly in his prime he has the potential to be Top 5 in his position.

Not sure about the Iniesta comparison, I think they play differently with vastly different skillsets. I think Leon Osman and Jack Wilshere are better comparables in terms of playing style, creativity and skill/technique, with both being similar but smaller and slower than MacAllister. Auxilliary midfielders who link passes together and sometimes get creative but more often played it safe. I agree that he may be better suited to Serie A, like both Wilshere and Osman may have been in the past. Will be interesting to see what happens. I suspect the Brighton system suits him really well and he may struggle to replicate his form in a different role. But we'll see. He is a class player. Would love him to play for Forest lol

Watched him take the piss out of nearly every top midfielder in the prem and at the World Cup. He could easily dictate the tempo of a game, even if his passing volume numbers aren’t as high as traditional DLPs, I’d say that’s more to do with 1. How Brighton play and 2. A testament to his versatility that sometimes he’s used as a 10, sometimes in a double pivot and he does a lot of selfless running to exploit space and create space for teammates. Numbers aren’t biased and sometimes they tell the exact story of a player, but sometimes there are things that you simply see with your eyes that show you what a player is capable of, AMA is clearly a high IQ, complete modern midfielder. He might not jump off the screen in the way so many modern midfielders don’t, but he’s a dominant middle 3rd player who has more of a chance of being the next Gundogan than a Joe Allen/VDB type flop. If Klopp can find a way of him and Trent working in midfield with the right balance, that could be the perfect blend of sparkle and brains. The worry is if Klopp tried to use him to replace Henderson as a right midfielder, that would be a waste.

I think he is a more complete midfielder than Enzo. Enzo is not athletic enough and very easily disposed of the ball whilst Mac Allister get stuck in and is very good off the ball even though he isn't the biggest. Watch some games when Brighton struggles in the build up and it's Mac Allister who is the one dropping deep to help them out. For me he is an all phase player. He doesn't excel at certain things but he does a good enough job in different positions in midfield. He would exactly duit our Liverpool team.

If you genuinely think that you either don't understand much of the game, or, you never saw Enzo play his position, even out of position as a dm Enzo is far superior and more impactful than Mac Allister, but when Enzo gets a DM to cover his back and has freedom to roam, he is levels above perhaps any young midfielder you rate at this moment. I seriously recommend you go watch him play at Benfica since Chelsea and Arg don't have in form dms to allow him to play freely.

I'm concerned that he's had a good (not amazing) season having fit well into the Brighton team, but doesn't seem that adaptable, and not worth the touted £70m. You basically summed up my thoughts! MacAllister's lack of creative numbers is a concern, and while those numbers tend to improve when a player steps up to a bigger side, Brighton put up very high XG higher than many top 6 clubs and he assists very little of it. It's unlikely that his assist numbers will improve dramatically enough to justify the huge price tag he will command. Where I disagree slightly is his suitability for Liverpool, he has amazing off the ball numbers and gets through lots of interceptions and recoveries which is why I think he would be a perfect fit for Liverpool and could finally replace Gini. I think Liverpool will look to move past a midfield with Thiago and will use Trent inverted as a midfield controller and look for their 8s to cross in the half spaces, more like Arsenal or City.

i really like this analysis. I am a Brighton season ticket holder and I think Mac is a great player however LFC fans might be in for a bit of disappointment with this one. Alexis has preferred the CAM role but as the analysis suggests, he is not good enough to play in this position. He is a very tidy midfielder but he has been playing alongside Caicedo who has been doing 99% of the dirty work exceptionally well. I think Mac would suit a team like Villa (or stay at Brighton if we could pay enough) but he would not be a starter for a top 4 team. It pains me to say it but he is quite overrated/over priced and I worry this might be another Cucurella situation
