Why do we even try to understand the intricacies of running a formula one team. Consider the fact that Checo might already have known he had a contract extension in the beginning of the year and that is why he drove so well. It would also explain the support he gave Christian because I can't imagine dokter Marko wanting to keep Checo. We have to remember that from Miami onward Red Bull had setup issues. If Max had problems driving that car then it would mean Checo had no hope of controlling the RB20 in those races. So maybe we give him some time. I distinctly remember that Christian underhandedly dismissed the young drivers programme last year in an interview. Keeping Checo and reinstating DR is a bit of a middle finger move to Helmut Marko and Guillaume Rockelin who run the young drivers programme. Hence another point of contention between HM and CH. You have to remember that Christian was very much against Max moving to Red Bull but was overruled by Didi Mateschitz and Helmut Marko. Christian Horner does not like taking risks and he likes financial stability. He thinks he has found that by keeping Checo and DR for both reasons. He knows damn well how much pressure he will put on Max to perform above and beyond if he wants to keep that number one on his car because Max knows he will not get any help from Checo to take away points from other teams. In that sense I really don't see why people seem to think that they kept Checo to keep Max happy. I mean the abuse that Max gets from the Mexican fans alone is enough to send Checo walking. It is a bit shortsighted to think that Max has any power to decide who his teammates might be. That is a narrative that has been pushed to death by the journos but has never been proven. Checo and Max are just pawns in the politics of Red Bull Racing F1 and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the end

I do agree that Checo and Max are also pawns in Red Bull politics however I think Max does have some say in who he wants his teammate to be, I don't think any driver gets hired to be alongside Max if it's a outright no from Max. Plus even if the checo contract got signed in the beginning of the year it's not as if he would want to perform terribly the moment it gets publicized. And Checo and Daniel gave Christian support because they know their seats are not secure. Above all else you only say good things about your boss, unless you know he will not fire you. They cannot afford any statement but support the only driver who could was Max Verstappen. And even he did not say anything bad he simply did not comment. The idea that any driver that is not owner of the team would openly speak negatively about their team principal while at the team is career suicide. Plus, "Christian Horner does not like taking risks" is inaccurate. I think a more accurate statement would be Christian Horner has no regards for the rules in play, either in his marriage or his job. Because season after season the one team that has created scandal weather through cost cap cheating, the other cheating, horrible PR statements made by Helmut, Christian, Max or Jos is Redbull. Out of all the teams they are the most openly racist and sexist. And I don't think there are that many intricacies, most decisions and especially big decision in any for profit business do fundamentally come down to does the profit out weight the cost. So it's really a simple decision to keep Checo and Daniel in the short run however its a much worse long term economic prospect if the drivers don't win. Especially after this season of shaming and scrutiny because now all that is talked about is how they are only kept because they bring in sponsors. Fan support, financial support any support is never endless and forever. Ultimately the problems that plague Redbull don't come down to very complicated choices based on a plethora of data points but simply about big egos and hurt feelings. I do like how detailed you were in your explanation even if I don't agree with everything.

With your reference to 2021. The Mercedes had a performance advantage of 0.18s in qualifying on average. Race pace is difficult to measure but we know the advantage Mercedes had was even greater during races as it was better on the tyres. So comparing Bottas to Perez is a little unfair as Merc had the quicker package that season.

That’s without removing 3 outliers which would have put Max ahead in those sessions: Russia (Max gave Perez a tow and went out in Q1); Saudi (Max crashed out on his quickest lap which would have put him ahead); and GB (Lewis got pole on the Friday evening in conditions much cooler than the actual race and quali on Saturday)
@mohammedaneeskhan790
@mohammedaneeskhan790 Ай бұрын
@@tyredf1pod You can not look at it from one side. You need to look at the underachievement of the Merc drivers. The pole lap in Saudi was Max taking huge amount of risks. As can be seen in the race the Merc was the quicker car. Max just did an unbelievable banzai lap to try and get ahead which he could not complete. The Merc would have been a quicker car in Spa but for the racing and errors by Lewis. Furthermore have a look at the data for qualifying, if Mercedes drivers have put there best sectors together they would have beaten Red Bull 80 percent of the time in qualifying. Max achieved the theoretical best time of the car more than any driver that season. Lewis was not even n the top ten. He would often fail to put the best sectors together Bottas would be faster in a number of sectors. In races like Abu Dhabi, Saudi etc the Merc was significantly quicker but both drivers didn't get the maximum from their qualifying laps. When it came to the races, it wasn't even close, Lewis made some massive errors, he was only in the championship due to the tyre blow up in Baku, taking Max out in Silverstone and Bottas taking out Max. Hamilton underachievement in races 21 Hungary- The end result showed that Hamilton would have had a comfortable victory if he passed Alonso within 7 laps. At that point with fresher tyres the Mercedes was over 2 seconds per lap faster than the Alpine. Yet it still took Hamilton 11 laps to pass a far slower car that was also on older tyres. I understand the track was different, but Verstappen on fresher tyres passed Hamilton for the championship when he had 1 lap to do so! Turkey- Again we don't have to call it an error but the indecisiveness of Hamilton during that race with a dominant package, cost him points. Again if Max was in that situation I believe he would have passed the slower cars far quicker. Incidentally, I believe a younger Hamilton from the Mclaren days would have done the same. Although Hamilton has improved certain aspects of his driving, I do think he has regressed when it comes to wheel to wheel racing. Maybe having dominant cars for so many years has resulted in him becoming rusty in this area. Mexico Again we can point the finger at Bottas, however if we look at what Ferrari did a couple of years ago, it was the the driver on the second grid position that closed the door. Potential race win lost. Monza I agree the pit delays caused them to be at the same part of the track, however the ultimately were. For me if Hamilton left some room, he would have had far better traction and pulled away on the next straight. Thus he lost points. Baku- Steering wheel error cost him race win France- Faster Mercedes lost race when Hamilton went off track costing him 2.5s, this allowed Max to close the gap and make the overtake Imola: Crash for Hamilton (which at the end had immitted effect) costing a potential win. USA- Merc was again quicker, error by Lewis trying to close the gap cost him the win. Overall Lewis had the better package in 21, the errors and sheer consistency from Max lost him the title. Lets not forget he was only in a position to fight for the title at the end because of the bad luck for Max.

You're missing something concerning Perez. The merch and cans is all nice, but he also brings some 8 partner sponsors to the table that have tied their good name to Perez. They might be paying Red Bull, but if Perez leaves they will too. And if I have it correctly, in total Red Bull might have some 90m reasons to keep Perez on. And that btw always gets underestimated that a team needs to survive and that requires huge amounts of sponsor money.
@DABmonger
@DABmonger Ай бұрын
One of these 8 is still probably the Mexican Government. But just as the gaps between the manufacturers continually narrows, it's going to look pretty bad on both Red Bull and Checo if he continues to be pretty shit.

It's been 24 hours and I still can't get over your comment that parents are not responsible for their child's behaviour in school. Makes me feel old. I won't comment further because I have nothing good to say about that statement. Nor the statement that Lewis has no responsibilty for how his fans react to what he says. I thought he was a role model. I guess that means role models can have it both ways. Sheesh. I'm old.

The Perez deal is used against Max. It started like always in the UK. Yes Max wants stability, who doesn`t. Perez not ending a GP in second place is not helping Max. Maby nobody wants to fight Max in his RBR team. Maby they are scared.

RB cares more about the Drivers vs Constructors title. Having a driver that takes points off Max is not ideal. They need a sure thing top 5 driver. That could be Perez. Could be Albon. Sainz and others of his quality will beat Max just often enough to jeopardize either of them winning overall. That’s a problem. The other is how much tension having Jos and Sainz Sr together would cause. Definitely not what Max likes.
