Jackson Browne was part of a large group of musicians, singers, and songwriters that settled in LA in the late 60's and 70's, mostly in and around Laurel Canyon. They worked with each other, sang each other's songs, and generally supported each other. Browne, JD Souther, Linda Ronstadt, various members of the Eagles, all of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Joni Mitchell, Karla Bonoff, EmmyLou Harris, Gram Parsons and other members of the Flying Burrito Brothers. The Troubador and the Whisky a Go-Go were the clubs they generally hung out at and you never knew who would be on stage (and who would be backing them). It was a very fruitful time and gave us so much great music in the 70's.

Looking back, i think the 79s was the best decade for all genres: folk, rock, southern rock, pop, funk, r&b & disco. Never a shortage of great bands, & singer songwriter’s.

@@zevkeisch4453 What made it unique (for those of us who lived it) was that all genre's played on the radio. Radio wasn't corporatized like it is now and each station had more freedom to play whatever they wanted. Yes. there were stations that were for country or R&B (or my favorite: AOR) but even they weren't locked in as much as they are now.

Rosemary Butler was the singer who belted out the second chorus of 'Stay.' She was a back-up singer for Jackson Browne during this period. She's also sung with Linda Ronstadt, Tom Petty, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, Neil Young, and Rosanne Cash. The Guy who did the final falsetto verse was the late David Lindley, master of all stringed instruments. He also was the one playing the lap steel guitar. Brilliant musician, great career. He had a big hit in the 90's with Mercury Blues, performed with his band El Rayo X. He sadly passed away just 10 months ago now. RIP The only other thing I have to say is, listen to the other folks here and do more Jackson Browne. You can't go wrong.

I’ve never listened to Jackson much but I do like his music a lot. Just not a person that comes to mind to listen to much. Also, I know it’s weird but the guy singing the final falsetto, I thought, was Tiny Tim. You know the “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” guy? Thank you for clarifying that for me.

Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "Rock Me On The Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running On Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.

"Why can't we get shit like this now?" Good question! Greetings from Germany! I was a fourteen year old boy when I got in touch with Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zevon, Arlyn Gale, Gil Scott Heron and all the others in 1977/78. They taught me their language and gave me a glimpse of how it was to live in the U.S.A. at those times. I've seen about a hundred concerts during my younger days and I appreciate that Jackson is honoring his roadies. He's was and is one of the best! Now I'm a boring old fart and wonder why you can't find artists like that anymore. You're reaction is amazing. Thanx for that. You seem to be one of the rare people who seem to understand what he was singing about. I visited the U.S.A. in 79, 96, 98 and last year. I miss that spirit I once have expirienced... Sorry to say that...

Glen Frey (Eagles) said he learned song writing from living above Jackson Browne and hearing him play his piano repetitively until he got it like he wanted it ….. They were struggling to write their own Music and didn’t know how, but had an epiphany one day hearing JB’s dedication/ hard work (Eagles’ first hit “Take it Easy” was co-written by Jackson Browne)

Great choice. Beautiful song. Had to put it on my top 100 of the 70's. You said it all.

Jackson Browne is amazing. Such a great storyteller. The two bands (people), I have seen the most.....Jackson Browne & Metallica. I think 6 times for Jackson Browne. I literally can't say enough good things about that guy.

So... "Stay" is a really old song. It was released in 1960, and became the shortest #1 song in American history. Maurice Williams wrote it in 1953 when he was 15 years old after failing to convince his date not to go home at 10P like she was supposed to. It's quite a banger for such an old oldie. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZeKksuk0NzeYYE.html

Jackson closes is shows with this song. David Lindley the slide guitar player passed away. Lindley died after a long illness on March 3, 2023, at the age of 78. He had COVID-19 in 2020, which his family said developed into Long COVID, with chronic kidney damage. Jackson is still touring.

I got to see him in concert. RIP brother Brown ❤. Saw him in Oregon. He had lost his entire band on the road as they all were partying too much so he just went solo and rocked the house down. He passed away shortly after at a pretty young age

Your reaction was the best I’ve seen of this particular Jackson Browne song. You understood right off what he was conveying to his audience. You can’t go wrong reacting to any of his songs. I’ve been a huge fan for over 50 years. He is without a doubt my favorite writer and singer from my generation.

Love your reaction! I was about 20 for this concert and if I could have chosen a time to be that age, I couldn't have picked a better time or better music!! As you said, this is TOP TIER!!

You said it "Top tier" LOVE watching new people discover the greats from the past! And you loved it! I saw you dancing in your chair 😂 Jackson Brown is one of my favorites and still playing today!!! And still looking good! But, he has a sad story, his wife killed herself way back then.. it was hard on him and some of his music still reflects on it today ❤

He is such a great singer/songwriter! One song that he wrote that I never see mentioned is Song for Adam. He wrote it for his friend Adam Saylor who committed suicide. It is a beautiful song that always makes me cry.

I love watching your reactions, you always give such enthusiastic commentary and you really appreciate the music and the artists! I would love for you to check out The Little River Bands "It's a Long Way There", it's surprisingly funky and super enjoyable. I love all their songs but this one slaps! (The live one 1975) I promise that you won't be disappointed!!

I'm so grateful that I was a teenager in the 70's and was able to see him in concert. Not to mention so many other concerts that were at "The Day On The Green" in Oakland..Those were incredible times. Check out Day on the Green. It was a concert place in Oakland, Bill Graham presents. We'd go to 10 concerts a summer. Those were the days and I'm glad you are getting a chance to enjoy what we had back in the day......Thanks for the reactions. You really feel these songs, don't you? Love it!

I just turned 71 he is one of my favorites especially this song! He used to write with Glen Frey of the Eagles when they first started out in the 1970’s when I was young getting ready to start my life. I just love seeing you kids enjoy the music of my generation.

Shon, the greatest thing about recorded music in the 60's, 70's, even a bit into the 80's was that ALBUMS were thematic. They told a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. In my hometown, we had a radio station that played the full album over the radio. Browne's "Running on Empty" from 1978 is a prime example of this. It is a brilliant album from guts to skin!!!
