@@zakiyam9428 if you’re not that proficient you can just watch them with English subtitles and pay attention to what they’re saying. For practicing reading skills I’d recommend reading song lyrics while the song itself is playing, makes listening to music more fun. Also another thing that I did is set my phone language to Russian so even when I’m not doing anything I can somewhat practice, it introduced me to a lot of words too

I'm Russian, I speak English, and learn German and Ancient Greek. If you need a practicing partner, let me know! ;) And, couple of advices for you regarding this video: 1. Don't spell russian "D" as "/\", because you will be mixing it up with "Л". Try to form a habit to write it as it should, "Д". 2. Pronounce "сегодня" as "севодня". This will make your prononciation of this word perfect! Cheers! :)

I would add that in most of the words you use, the 'o' is pronounced more like an 'a' than an 'o', it happens when the syllable containing the letter o is not stressed.

The thing is that in Russian я is supposed to be pronounced 'ia' but in reality, the a is pronounced more like 'e' as in 'yes', 'и' is not pronounced 'i', and can be confounded with e (the letter). All those letters don't sound exactly like a or i or e but are closer to those sounds than from o or i for the first 2 for instance. And still, o in non stressed syllables is not pronounced o in the main Russian pronunciation, and in the word много never ever. Of course, it is not necessary to pronounce right at the beginning but why not try? I don't totally agree with you about French, because even if words are not pronounced exactly as written, a letter or set of letters is always pronounced the same way, for example: ai is always pronounced 'é', some letters at the end of a word are always silent, etc...

I have been using Duolingo so far to learn the basics, and although it takes it quite slowly it’s a great way to implement practise into every single day and also to make sure you learn everything properly before moving on! I also watch Russian shows with subtitles and read a page from a Russian book out loud every day even though I don’t know what most of it means yet, I just find this helps me to remember the alphabet and helps me get used to the pronunciation :)

wow, it's actually fascinating to watch someone learning russian as a foreign language! maybe the reason is that russian seems to be difficult to learn and lots of people don't consider it as one of their target language. you're doing a great job, actually! keep it up! as for me, i'm studying english, polish (these are languages i feel quite comfortable speaking), german, italian and will probably get back to french in a while. nothing brings so much joy to my life as the process of learning something new!

I watched a lot of videos on KZfaq about learning different languages and it became interesting to me how foreigners learn Russian (since I myself am Russian). I'm glad that I speak this language from birth, because even Russians are confused in their native language, let alone foreigners.I don’t know about other countries, but we have a lot of jokes about our language. When we come across some complex construction or a strange word, we say: "Great and mighty Russian language" with a funny accent. But it's so cool that you decided to learn this language! It's difficult, but really interesting. Good luck to everyone who learns Russian. (you will need it :>). And to everyone who learns foreign languages.

I know that this was posted 2 months ago,but I really enjoyed watching! Also a little tip from a russian speaker: When we speak, we almost all the time change the го to a во Ex: Сегодня when speaking we would say "Севодня" but it's still written as Сегодня. When you'll be going into intermediate or advance russian and listening to everyday speech, most likely you will hear the words when spoken with a "во" while it's written with a "го" the most common example is the word you said: Сегодня. Just wanted to share! You're amazing for learning my mother toungue! Thank you! I appreciate it! I also subscribed! Also for a bit advance level, since your begginer you don't have to worry about this, but sometimes the words that are written with an О are pronounced with an А, the word that I can remember from the top of my head is Computer: Компьютер (written) but for the ease of pronounciation we say it as: "Кампьютер", the sound changing is only used when speaking. Just wanted to share to maybe make your russian journey a bit easier in the future! (I'm learning Korean lol) Удачи в изучении Русского! Ты сможешь! Я в тебя верю!

Ahora estoy estudiando francés porque encontré un trabajo en Francia y tus videos me ayudan mucho con la motivación para enstudiar sola y también con técnicas. Eres muy pila!

Karen, your handwriting is just unbelievable! Actually, many Russian people write the same as you do. I liked your accent. You've already done a lot, really☺️Thank you so, so much for this video:) Good luck 💕 P.s. about the languages I'd like to learn, well, since I'm fluent in English, now I'm mainly focusing on Italian, and I'm planning to reach B2 in 2021 (easier said than done😌). Also, I'm very interested in Spanish and Portuguese. Some languages, such as Greek and Hebrew are also quite unusual and interesting

It's so cool that you are giving Russian a shot! As someone who is fluent in both Russian and German I can honestly say that Russian is much harder than German, especially in terms of grammar. But don't let that deter you from learning it by no means! It's a beautiful language for sure. I've been following you from the very beginning and I know you got the determination in you to keep going :) (I wish I had that lol) I'm very curious to see your progress over time. If you need some help down the road you can always let me know and I'll see what I can do (speaking practice, grammar help etc.). It always makes me a little proud when people decide to learn my native language so I always like to help those people out if possible. Go go go Ivana ;)

Awesome video. Thank you. I have studied Russian since April and I’m enjoying the challenge. I also start each day with Russian. I listen to a Russian language learning podcast, ‘Understand Spoken Russian’, it’s free and it’s helped me a lot as has, Russian Made Easy. I also speak with a tutor daily on Italki. Good luck and thanks again because your channel is fantastic.

Hello. Thank you for the information you gave me to learn a language from the beginning. These videos motivate me a lot. Learning the Russian language must be difficult because the alphabet is different. I'm sure it's not hard for you . You already speak Russian. In the meantime, You're very sweet. See you.

Вы большая молодец! Продолжайте в том же духе! Не забывайте про мелочи: например, слово "сегодня" произносится "севодня". Сево is old russian "this", so сегодня is this very day)

Thanks for this video, Karen. As an older guy, I appreciate that you can embrace the low-tech utility of a notebook. I think I would add a fourth factor in deciding on a new language, which would be languages already studied. For example, I am interested in Haitian Creole because I already speak French. Likewise, I would like to get serious about Swahili because I studied Arabic; and Chavacano because of Spanish. What do you think?

Nice video. I'm learning Russian too, on my own ( with youtube, duolingo etc). I recommend the RealRussianClub youtube course, "from zero to fluency", which was how I started learning. And a little comment about your pronunciation (maybe you've already noticed it but anyway): In many words the letters го are pronounced as "vo", so сегодня is "sevodnya", его is "yevo", etc. Good luck with your learning 👍

Ivana sounds cool actually. I don't meet many people with this name here in Russia, but it sounds nice. Good luck with the studies, you're already doing great! I know how difficult it is (if it wasn't my first language, I would probably never dare to learn it, lol). But seeing how well you deal with languages, there's not even a doubt you can nail this one too🙈

I have changed the language on my phone to Russian for a couple months now and this alone has helped me to get to a point where I'm seeing a lot of grammatical patters and have taken in a lot of commonly used vocabulary. But I'm not in a class, I'm trying to teach myself. I'm learning because I want to read about Russian experiences with respect to internal govt repression under Stalin - specifically GULag books and also stories that are here online but are only in Russian. It's a topic I've been very passionate about for many years now but sources in English are limited. Also, the Russian way of thinking and writing is so different to mine and I really find it touches my soul.

You sound great speaking Russian for someone learning for a short time! You probably already figured it out by now, but его like in сегодня should be pronounced ево. Russian is a language which is really hard to speak (I am still struggling after 1.5 years of intense study), so don't feel nervous about making mistakes.

I learned Russian in university for a year, then started dating a Serb and decided to switch to learning Serbian instead. Slavic languages are hard, but your experience in German will come in handy. I'm learning Serbian through German (I'm C1) and I find it way easier because both languages have a grammatical case system.

ive been learning japanese for 2.5 years. the first 2 years were all by myself buying books and looking online. i decided this january to actually try to speak it with someone so i started taking italki lessons with a japanese native. been taking italki lessons for 11 months now. However i still cant watch japanese tv and understand everything. movies or anime....like i have to constantly still look up words. my speaking isnt very good either. basically just 1 sentence answers to questions. as for kanji well i know a lot of the basic ones but i can not read japanese without looking at what a kanji means either. So it looks like i still have a long way to go if i ever get there. my plan is to learn without ever stepping foot in a classroom and never going to japan. i dont think i will ever visit there but i never know for sure. i also have no friends or family that speak japanese. so if i learn it might be a miracle.
